Definetly a very special hotel with it is age and style.Rooms tastefully decorated. The shower is great. For what you pay a good bargain. The location is great you can reach most important sites in 15 minutes.Hotel is very willing to book any services for you and their price is very fair. They have parking in the courtyard.

Pushing to main door is just travelling back in times and imagining how splendorous must have been the place when it opens, about a century ago. Any vintage lover would get crazy there, and could feel like one of the characters of "The Darjeeling Limited" (feat. Adrian Brody). In the dark corridors you could feel you've plundged into a tropical... More

Stayed 7 nights in this hotel. It is very near to Maradana rail station - 5 min. walk. Fort rail station and Colombo bus terminus is a short tuc tuc ride away (200 lrp). All very convenient for sight seeing in the capital. Our 1st night was spent in a room with balcony at the front of the hotel overlooking... More

We chose this hotel for its location which is relatively close to the railway and bus station of Colombo. This was very convenient as the traffic in Colombo can be a nightmare if you need to catch a train or bus (airport) without losing much time. The main sights were easily reachable by tuk-tuks. Our room was quite spacious and perfectly... More

This hotel offers you exactly what you pay for. I recommend to view at least a couple of rooms to choose the one which will suit you. We purposely stayed at the one at the back of the corridor which was definitely a bit quieter than the one offered originally right next to the stairway. Room was spacious and clean.... More

We arrived at the Shalimar at 20-00 after a short flight from Male. The Reception staff were most welcoming. We were in our sumptuous room inside five minutes and eating a lovely meal inside 20 minutes. The Restaurant staff were efficient and we enjoyed our first evening. We were trying to get a train to Trincomalee but the trains were... More

I stayed at this hotel twice during my stay in Sri Lanka and was satisfied. The room was large and comfortable. I liked how there was a sitting room and a bed room. The location was good-- near to the bus and train station and not far from other attractions.

Contrary to other reviews check the map it is centrally located and a good walk back from the Markets and we are in our 60's and found it wonderful, Tuk Tuks 150-175 to most sites with good bargaining skills. The interior colonial style is very beautiful and our room/suite large with a smaller bathroom, it was a hot time of... More

The location is good for travelling on from Colombo - after all, few tourists seem to spend more than 1 night in the capital, so easy access to train and bus stops is essential. Other than that though, there are quite a few shortcomings. The room was facing a busy street - busy, as in constant traffic even in the... More

While the place is little off beat and different. The bad thing about this place is the location. However if you want to stay in this part of the city this is the best you will get. Facilities like Rooms, Restaurants etc are good. The service, cleanliness etc are decent as well.
