This is a gem of a place in the city of Columbo.

From the second we walked into this hotel it sparkled. It is a beautiful hotel and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. I really do not like lifts and the staff were so good trying to accommodate me and open the stairs. I know I was a pain for this and they were wonderful.

The room was large and clean with a great bathroom and a cool blind that opened the bathroom up to the rest of the room if you wanted to. There was a small balcony where we had a sea view.

We dined in the main restaurant for breakfast and the choice was massive and we ate in the roof top restaurant in the evenings and food was great.

Now what is really special about this hotel is the roof top pool. I’ve never seen anything like it and it was heaven. The view of the sea was amazing and you can’t quite believe you’re on the top of a hotel. Everything you need regarding food, drinks, towels is available.

Some of the view are of the sky rise buildings
Going up around Columbo but it’s easy to look away from those views out to the sea.

They also offer a free city tour which is worth it if you are short of time.

We would definitely recommend this hotel

We started our 3 week tour of Sri Lanka at Marino Beach in Colombo and it was a perfect start to our holiday.
Warm, friendly hospitality and service with a smile.
Spacious, well planned bedrooms with ample storage space, modern bathroom with rain shower and toiletries, hot beverage making facilities, complimentary bottled water and snacks replenished daily.
A wide selection of food at breakfast and dinner covering different cuisines ie Sri Lankan, Oriental, Western served in dining area with indoor and outdoor seating facing the sea.
The rooftop garden with its infinity pool, jacuzzi and bar area is perfect for relaxing and enjoying sea views.
The hotel is linked to a modern shopping mall where guests can enjoy discounts on clothing, beauty treatments.
Spa facilities with a range of treatments at the adjacent Angsana Spa are also available at a discount.
City centre and main sights are within easy reach.
If you’re looking for comfort, friendly service and amenities within easy reach, I would recommend a stay at this hotel.

This is must visit. I booked while a promotion was going on so got a Signature room on half board basis on a very worthy rate. I must say the rooms exceeded my expectations. Rooms were spacious, Bathrooms were squeaky clean, Well lit, the best part is you can enjoy the room view from the bathroom while having a bath. Huge television, fully loaded tea and coffee maker with snacks, mini fridge was also stocked up with a few beverages. Rooms were soundproof as well. Later on went to the restaurant for dinner and breakfast. The bufffet spread was quite impressive for the amounts that we paid for Half board room and the more importantly the food was tasty too. The rooftop pool and the garden bar does really takes the cake. this is a must visit place. words cannot express how great my stay was.

Note: We went to Sri Lanka May 2022 at the heat of protest and fuel shortage – and despite US Consulate recommendation to avoid Sri Lanka, we did our own investigations and decided to go and felt safer in SL during protests then we did in the US, so you should not hesitate to go. We even viewed a couple protests which were orderly and very civil. Go to SL now as it is not crowded and they really rely on tourism so service will be even better.

The Marino Beach hotel truly represented a 1st class, well run hotel in a big city. Upon entering the grand lobby, there is a grand piano, chandeliers. The room was perfectly laid out, with very modern finishes that are both tasteful and functional (esp the large tub). We had a room with private patio facing the ocean, which we enjoyed each morning and night. The roof top infinity pool is amazing and the three hot tubs allowed us to relax after a long day, just before hitting the two steam rooms/saunas. The restaurant was very nice and offered lots of inside and covered outdoor seating overlooking the ocean, where we ate most of our meals. The service staff was outstanding and professional, esp. our matrede Nimalka who personally welcomed us for every meal and had our preferred table waiting. I watched Nimalka from across the restaurant and saw how he proactively acted with every guest, constantly checking on all patrons and make sure everyone had an outstanding dining experience. He even checked how our days went and gave us local background on some of the places and customs we experienced. He is a true professional and really made the restaurant stand out as service oriented. Our server every day Udara was also great and made sure we were always comfortable. The hotel location is perfect as we can enjoy views/sounds of beach (can’t really go on beach) but very close to downtown. It is also connected to a small Marino Mall which also has a great food court, which was inexpensive and tastey. We walked to the market, hospital (for covid tests) and had tuk tuks waiting at front and back. (pro tip – install Pickme app –similar to ubar) as you will get a honest estimate for trip on your phone and can avoid drivers who sometimes charge 2x unless you haggle. Also stay away from persons or tuk tuk drivers who offer a tour or cheap ride, as they will take you a jewelry store and leave you there – esp around the beach green area near old parliament building). WiFi was good all around at hotel and exchange rate was very fair. All staff wear face masks and front lobby has good security screening (devices/personnel)

Stayed 9 nights at this hotel, our room was the only one of its kind at the hotel the panoramic signature room. It has ocean views on both sides which was fabulous, we had the train noise but it didn’t disturb us. The room is very spacious with plenty of cupboard space, lovely bathroom and a huge comfortable bed. It was always spotlessly cleaned everyday with fresh towels and complimentary water, during our stay we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and the hotel decorated the room with flowers and we received a cake plus a gift from the management which was a lovely surprise. Lovely buffet breakfast but the food could be hotter the same in the restaurants the food was always lovely but served lukewarm. Coffee shop downstairs is a must, lovely cakes, pastries and savoury snacks. I highly recommend the hot chocolate which comes in a teapot!! Fabulous hotel taxi service and really cheap, security is high so you feel safe. The staff here are impeccably polite and nothing is to much trouble for them. We will definitely stay here again and would highly recommend this beautiful hotel to everyone

Firstly, I'd like to say that if this hotel had been outside of Colombo on one of the many quiet beaches of Sri Lanka it would have got a 5, unfair I know but Colombo is a city with limited things to see and do and sticking a nice hotel on top of a shopping mall doesn't help.

That said if you have to stay in Colombo, then this hotel has well appointed large rooms (mine had a partial view of the sea, large balcony, space for a sofa & desk. Good wifi ran at 30mps upwards and cable tv with a range of international channels. Breakfast was solid and even though it was not included in my room rate at 2000 rupees it was decent value with the usual mix of western and asian foods. I ordered room service once and the efficiency of the service and the food was great I used the large gym which was full of very high quality machines and free weights and had a staff member present both times I visited. Pool was good size for roof top (open until 10pm and even though I visited at high season, was never too busy. There are a range of restaurants including a dinner buffet at 2700 rupees which was a little disappointing with several of the meat dishes being tough. Staff were helpful and the only issue I had was really them trying too hard to be helpful.

So if you're arriving in Sri Lanka and want somewhere to shake off the jet lag for a couple of days, this hotel fits the bill perfectly.

Colombo spoils you for choice as far as modern 5 star hotels are concerned. I have stayed in several, belonging to both well-known international chains and local / regional chains. All hotels I have stayed in have been great experiences to their credit and one would be hard-pressed to nominate any one of these as being distinctly superior to the rest. Having said this, my most recent stay was at perhaps the newest 5 star hotel to open for business, the Marino Beach hotel. It has a great location on the sea front in downtown Colombo (District 5) and is ultra-modern in its design and construction, furniture and fixtures, in the use of technology and in terms of amenities. With an adjacent modern mall accessible directly from inside the hotel, Marino Beach hotel becomes even more tempting for all those for whom shopping is an essential part of the agenda when visiting Colombo. And with room rates more competitive than other establishments in its category, this hotel is the one to opt for if you are looking to stay in a modern hotel with a reasonable price tag in Colombo.

This was a great experience from whoa to go. The service is outstanding with every staff member appearing genuinely pleased to see you and always greeting you. The room was spacious with a view and was very reasonably priced. Breakfast was outstading, again complimented by great service. We received a welcome letter which was a nice touch as well as little farewell gift which was well received. The pool, garden bar, gym and grill were all first class. Every guest I saw in the pool eded up taking selfies of themselves. It is outstanding. I was little concerned about the location but for about 300 rupees you are in the Fort area and we even walked there one day. We also walked to a local railway station and took a train to Mt Lavinia which was great. We are returning in 2022 and will stay here again

Stayed in the hotel for a 3 day break on route to Maldives. Great breakfast buffet and awesome view of the railway track opposite the hotel. A sight to see of the commuters on the train. (The train does start around 4:30am!) Cocktails and other food we had was average. The pool on top floor is awesome but is let down by the staff was seem to do nothing and certainly do not clear up the area. Whilst I understand ideally guests should take old towels back when they don’t it should not be left to new arriving guests to clear areas to make room to sit down. Beds are very squashed together and the whole pool set up needs an overhaul to make it become the awesome place it should be. I would state that no where on the web site does it means the construction taking place beside the hotel. It completes removes any peace you may have around the pool. Shame as this could be a great hideout from the noise of the city.
