Movenpick I arrived to a warm welcome of Dilip, Rohan and Malki , who will go out of the way to ensure, that the stay is as comfortable as possible ! Having stayed at most 5 star hotels in Colombo, the rooms at Movenpick , stands above the rest. The layout and the furniture, and the modern interior design , and especially, the ensuite bathroom which can be a part of the bedroom ; speaks for itself. The breathtaking views into the Indian Ocean as far as the eye can see, with the ships sailing by ; from the bedroom or while in the shower , the port city in the distance and ………… Ishara , Dilrukshi in housekeeping ensured that the room was spotless, comfortable and all facilities available. Book this hotel! From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by the most warm and welcoming staff. Unfortunately, I arrived in the middle of their third lockdown which had been extended due to heavy rainfall and flooding. This meant that every staff member wore PPE (including a white suit covering them from head to toe, gloves, and face masks), luggage was cleaned with antiseptic, staff and guests used separate elevators, and I needed a negative PCR test prior to being allowed to roam the hotel. Off to my room I went to quarantine. If I was going to be trapped in a room for 18 hours, I’d choose this place every time. The bed was amazingly comfortable, the decorations were beautiful, the view was breathtaking. What more could you ask for? Food and drinks were delivered to my room while I was unable to leave pending the results of my COVID test. The TV had internet and Bluetooth. There was free WiFi. They really thought of everything!
The staff went above and beyond to make me comfortable and ensure my stay was satisfactory. I must mention Rohan, who communicated with me through my entire stay and gave me tips on what the hotel had to offer. After letting me know my PCR test returned with a negative result and I could move about freely, he pointed me in the direction of the rooftop pool and bar. Here I met Amal, who would provide me with excellent conversation and make heavenly cocktails throughout my stay. There was something called the Nanana Banana that had ice cream in it and I would certainly recommend it! I must also mention that the hotel has an extensive menu with food options from all over the world. They called to take my order for breakfast each morning, which was served to my room, and they even made me a couple of dishes that weren’t on the menu. Like I said, everyone went above and beyond here.
Though I was excited to explore the rest of the country, I was sad to leave this luxurious hotel and the friendly staff. Next time I visit Colombo, I will certainly stay at the Mövenpick. 10/10 would suggest you do the same.

We booked a standard city view room for two nights (we were leaving at 9pm for our flight home but wanted to keep a room). Received an email 48 hours before checkin offering upgrades (not sure if they were good rates as we did not pay too much attention). We arrived around noon and were advised on checkin that although our package included early checkin from 10am this was only if available, and our room would not be ready till 2PM. BUT for an additional fee of $US90 per night we could upgrade to a better room which was available immediately. We declined, said we would wait, but would appreciate if they could look again for a room that would be available sooner. We were moved to a (complimentary) Seaview room and told it would be ready in 30 minutes, but was then available after about 20minutes. Could not help feeling that it was all a bit of a ruse to get us to upgrade. Hold your ground! Lobby is very small so only real option was the overpriced cafe to wait. However room (with view of the sea) was lovely, clean, and rooftop pool and bar area were great with friendly staff. Also a la carte restaurant on 2nd floor was a reasonable price for a tasty Asian style meal.

This is a late review as I was excited to go home and forgot to write this review however I really want to promote this property for Sri Lankans staying abroad who has to stay one night as part of the covid protocol. I Stayed for one night part of the Covid-19 protocol in Sri Lanka. As part of the package that I stayed in, I should say that staying at the Movenpick was indeed value for money. I was on a full board package and I was surprised with the menu offering and quality of food. Aside from that also ordering Ala Carte also met my expectations and believe me I can be hard to please. Since it was a type of quarantine all meals were through In Room Dining and I was really impressed with the selection, presentation and quality of food. The only down side I can remember is I think that soft drinks can be a bit pricy. The room overall was excellent, comfortable bed, good amenities and very clean. The only thing I would recommend is to either change the (green khomba) soap or the way its presented as it looks very cheap for a hotel of this quality. The front office staff were very efficient and professional, and the In Room Dining Staff (sorry cant remember the name) was indeed a gem of a gentleman providing recommendations and options every time I called. The hotel operator however didn't seem much friendly. Nevertheless I would indeed choose Movenpick if I have to stay in Colombo again.

We checked few rooms before we stayed. The room we got was very clean and had all the amenities. All items including the towels,toiletries, cups were sanitized and tagged. Had a good view from the room. The bedding looked clean at a glance too. We had a cozy and a clean stay. Breakfast was served as a set menu, and we tried the Indian and American options which too were good.

Movenpick Hotel Colombo was an easy choice for our mandatory quarantine for 14 days. The reservation process was easy and the team was excellent in replying to all our questions and promptly guided us with the right requirements. The first impression of the hotel start with their sales and reservations team and Mithisha and Thilana was helpful and professional. Our designated taxi met us at the arrival lounge and guided us to the vehicle. At check-in all the necessary safety precautions was done where the elevators were assigned to certain floors. Lobby manager Tharun was always helpful. Madhuka in reception organized all things needed and the Kitchen team nd Chef Manula made great food options. The variety and choice was always available. The culinary team even made baby food for my child on request. Nishadi, Kalindu, Harsha and Rohitha was looking after in room dining and they were fantastic. Always repeated our orders and made sure everything was perfect. Chami and Asha in front office was a delight to talk to always. Tuan from housekeeping is silent but did a great job always. Thank you very much for keeping our room clean.
I would highly recommend Hotel Movenpick as there is an infinity pool on the rooftop and a Gym that can be used following social distancing riles and safety precautions. The staff mentioned above makes a world of difference and they are doing this with confidence, patience and treu Sri Lankan hospitality. With the current times Hotel Movenpick would stand out as a safe haven out of all Colombo hotels.

Really do not understand why people think this hotel is great in any way!
It's public areas are tiny and crowded. rooms are tatty and badly designed the shower is basically the entire bathroom floor. Furniture and doors are chipped, really tacky signage - low grade/ 80's holiday inn.
Poor service, in the downstairs bar I'd ordered a diet coke and he just handed me a can - no glass/ice, I then had to wait 5 mins before he gave me check to sign and he was rude!
Rooftop pool/bar - Has about 8 sunbeds for a 200+ room hotel. It's also ridiculously over priced. We went to The Galle Face Hotel (a 5 star hotel) and it was a lot cheaper for food and drink !!!
Never again. If you are looking for a hotel in Colombo shop around as you can get way better value for money.

We travelled to Sri lanka in September 2021 in th middle of a government lockdown due to the worsening of the Covid 19 pandemic situation. This hotel made part of a selected list issued by the government of quarantine hotels, where all foreigners arriving to Sri Lanka have to stay until the results of an on arrival PCR test are negative. The hotel transfer was waiting for us with a sign with my name at the airport. The transport van had a transparent curtain as separator from us and the driver. When we arrived at the hotel , all the personnel was wearing white sterilized gowns. They took us to our room and asked us to stay there until the results of the tests were available. The room was impeccable, with a nice view to the ocean. The bed was very confortable and the bathroom very big and spotless. The food was excellent and had a variety of Sri-lankan, Indian and Western dishes. The staff was extremely polite and had always a smile on their faces.

To be very honest I don't know as I don't smoke and didn't ask anybody, but during my stay I didn't see anyone smoking in the lobby, restaurants, lounge or anywhere in the hotel.
Most hotels these days are non smoking.
Not sure what you mean... if you mean registration it was quite straightforward, hand in your passport, take a seat and they do their admin stuff and then give you your key and direct you to your room, luggage comes up virtually straight away.
There are more places to choose from in the Colombo area.
