Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Clean and safe. Very reasonable price for a private room with bath. Very nice owner. Near the city center. Great place to make new friends! Both outside door and door to the hostel has electronic locks. Nice kitchen and lounge. I would definitely stay here again.

Zaya's wonderful, peaceful Hostel in the heart of Ulaanbaatar has had a shiny post-pandemic refit and it's looking great. Superb host Anand will still solve all your travel problems, great and small, and make you feel completely at home.

I'd never been to Mongolia before and the people here was so friendly and helpful in making it feel accessible and understandable. It's well located downtown within walking distance of a lot of great stuff in UB. I had a pleasant stay and a good time here. I was able to get remote work done at home via wifi and also to make trips out to enjoy the city. They helped me store luggage and to get to and from the airport.

I'm one of the few foreigners who got stranded in Mongolia in February 2020 until late December due to the border lockdown during the pandemic. Zaya became one of my temporary homes in UB. I can state the obvious about the place - it's located in the best area for tourists given its proximity to the various landmarks in UB, a well managed and clean accommodation, comfortable and cozy living space, with so many restaurants outside your doorstep. But what made my stay of 2 months at Zaya special is I was the only person who was occupying the 3 bedroom unit during the lock down when tourism was non-existent. With that unique experience, I truly got to know Mongolia and its locals - their high level of hospitality, kindness and generosity. The owners of Zaya are no exception to this. Anand felt like a friend who watched over me while alone stranded in Mongolia. He gave me info on the status of the country, immigration processes and flights until eventually after 294 days, I flew out of Mongolia with so much sadness - it felt like I was leaving "home." With world class landscapes and nature combined with the wonder of the nomadic culture plus the nomads who genuinely want to care for you, visiting Mongolia is a must. I'm forever grateful for experiencing Mongolia during the pandemic - it made me get to know the local more intimately in a time of crisis absent mass tourism. Mongolia has a big heart and it will make you want to stay for good. Zaya is no doubt an exceptional choice.

You can not beat the great price, friendly and accommodating hosts/owners, sparkling clean guesthouse with large rooms, and a nice hot breakfast every morning, included in the price. This guesthouse is in a convenient location, near the State Department Store with an easy walk to restaurants and attractions. Unfortunately, our timing was not great as we were in Ulaanbaatar when the city and country were on lockdown due to the coronavirus! During our 5-day stay, the best thing in Ulaanbaatar was the Zaya 2 Guesthouse and our wonderful hosts! We were so grateful that they spoke excellent English and that they were able to change Mongolian Tögrög to USD when we needed to cut our trip short and return back to the USA. They did everything possible to accommodate us during our stay! If I come back to Mongolia, I would definitely stay at the Zaya 2 Guesthouse! They have my highest recommendation!

While you may hesitate when entering the location, just keep going up the 4 flights of stairs. The hostel is pleasant, rooms immaculate and roomy, great breakfasts and ability to use the kitchen for easy meal prep. Staff is pleasant, dual language, some traveled around the world. Try it! Great prices too

I have now spent nearly ten days at Zayas, with gaps in between and it feels like coming home when I walk in the door. This is the best hostel I have ever stayed in. Like most places, it is the management and staff who make the difference. I really like that people remember my name and ask how my days been. When you are travelling alone, little courtesies like that make a big difference. There's a real sense of being looked after. Of course everything else is great - spotlessly clean rooms and bathrooms. Great ensuites in some rooms. A tasty, filling breakfast. Hot and cold water and tea and coffee always available. There's a guest kitchen, a bright comfy lounge, free Wi-Fi and a laundry service. It's also in a great location close to Peace Ave and the state department store. On top of everything the prices are an absolute bargain and pick ups and other travel services can be arranged. I may well be coming back to Mongolia just to hang out in Zayas for a few more days.

We stayed at this hostel in 2016 and returned this month. Anand was always quick to respond to our emails and very professional in all our dealings. He arranged all our tours which ran very smoothly and exceeded expectations. The accommodation was exceptionally clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The hostel is well located. We will definitely be returning and thoroughly recommend Zayas as the place to stay and book tours when in Mongolia! Thankyou for all your help Anand!

They picked us up, so it was very convenient to get there. Zaya hostel is super cozy place to stay. The owners are fluent in english and even helps the guests to arrange tours. Overall, the rooms were clean and spacious. The best thing is the friendly staffs and their service. They provide a nice breakfast every morning. Also the location is in central area which was very close to the main attractions in Ulaanbaatar. I wish to go again :)
