The resort itself is beautiful, the rooms comfortable and clean. The staff are polite and friendly enough but nothing to shout home about. The only thing I'd have a slight complaint about was the breakfast, which consisted of a baguette, a small portion of butter and jam, and a serving of fruit. I felt that the hotel was overpriced for... More

We stayed two nights in the Villa Lao and everything was just perfect. Lots of communal spaces with dark wooden floors and a beautiful mature garden and a large room with the balcony and everything we needed in it. The receptionist Athit was amazing. He gave us the best service in our, so far, 3 weeks long journey. Other staff... More

We had a nice experience here and the staff were nice. We loved the atmosphere. The room was nice and the common areas great. On our side of the building there were not many other guests, so it was like having a whole house to ourselves. Overall satisfactory but some small problems. Before leaving home I e-mailed twice with no... More

I knew this place from Lonely Planet book. I called the number to ask about price. The guy said 115,000. When we've arrived suddenly the price increased to 160,000. The house was actually nice and set in a traditional style with wooden floor. The garden was beautiful. Unfortunately the room we stayed in was extremely hot (facing west) and aircon... More

From reading reviews of other places I'm not sure if there are many good cheap places in vientiane to stay but the draw back with here is it's a 20min walk either in searing 37 degree heat or down dark dangerous roads at night, which includes having to cross two major roads with no pedestrian crossing. Tuck tucks were hard... More

A lovely wooden accommodation, with a lush garden and lots of places to relax and sit. Hammock, chairs and tables on shared balconies. Our room had a fan and airco and on suit bathroom. We took a Lao cooking class which was given in house by a very nice lady. Only 1.5km from town, so an easy walk. Also possible... More

Villa Lao offer two types of bedrooms, if the ensuite bedrooms with private bathroom and air conditionning are overall OK, we cannot say the same about the standard bedrooms. These latest are not so clean, noisy and offer an access to a dirty and broken shared bathroom. Breakfast is neither of good value and on top of that, the place... More

I had to be in Vientiane for 10 days so I initially booked a standard room on their website. The guesthouse is about 1.5km out of the center. It's ok to walk to the center and back during the day but in the evening, the road to the guesthouse is dark and quiet. There are no restaurants and marts nearby... More

For $30 a night you get a double room with Aircon , en suite shower room/toilet , minibar & a balcony overlooking the gardens . The breakfast included in the price is basic but you can also order from the a la carte menu ( quite cheap ) . The rooms ( we stayed in 4 different ones in 2... More

We stayed at Villa Lao for 3 nights at the end of 6 weeks travelling in Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. First the positives: A comfortable bed, a clean room in an interesting old building and a quiet area. Less good: the breakfast, we had many great breakfasts but this was poor, just a reheated baguette, a packet of butter and... More
