Having been MANY, many times in that tinny capital Vientiane, i can definitely assure you that you will NOT be able to find a cheaper guesthouse in the whole town ! Talking about private rooms...no dorms ! So, what do you get for that money ?? OF COURSE quite a few shadows : If you really need an internet, and... More

For $10 a night, expect the worse. This place is old and with lots of mosquitoes. But it has a decent looking bed (we didn't use the linens though, we had our own sleeping bags) a working aircon, a working hot shower and decent wifi. The staff can speak english fairly. The guesthouse is only a few metres away from... More

On my first night here I woke up in the middle of the night to a man in our rom with his hands on my computer. I chased him out, but he had already stolen all of the money from my wallet. They have signs downstairs saying the doors are locked at midnight, so I can only assume he had... More

We arrived on a bus from Vang Vieng (which spent 2 hours on the side of the road after breaking down) so understandably just wanted to book into a decent guest house and get some food. We turned up at one of the other Syri guesthouses first but were told by the owner who was outside that this guesthouse was... More

After arriving on the bus from Vang Vieng and without pre-booked accommodation we recognised the name from a Lonely Planet recommendation for a sister establishment, the Syri 1 GH. The location was great, the outer looked nice and the staff member at reception was pleasant. Unfortunately that is where the positives end and the inexhaustible list of negatives begins. On... The place has gone from bad to worse. Avoid at all costs. At 40+ degrees celsius, one still has to beg for a working fan, one that doesn't break down during the night, or one that doesn't make so much noise that you can't sleep. I asked politely for a replacement fan when mine broke down just after 1 am,... More

Yes, this seems to be one of the cheapest accommodations around but the rooms are unpleasant. We had a small room with no window and very little space and a bathroom with funky smelling drains. My main issue was cleaning, we had booked 5 nights as we were waiting for our Myanmar visa. On 3 occasions, we asked for a... More

We stayed for one night only, which was a relief. We paid $10 for an ensuite double with a fan. It was a tiny room, super hot and suffered from a damp smell. It was the first time during our trip in SE Asia that I felt like I needed to use my silk liner to sleep in. Having said... More

After checking out a few guesthouses when we got off the bus from Vang Vieng we finally settled for this one. It was the cheapest we'd found in the city for a double room (80,000K with a private bathroom) and was in a great location right in the heart of the city. It certainly wasn't the nicest or cleanest place... More

“My room had two beds, and the one i slept in had NO bed bugs. However, on the other one I discovered a few when I used my laptop computer on it. Probably the bed least slept on and therefore changed. Anyone who comes from a country were just about all the fauna has been eliminated fro the environment and therefore not knows what life is really about, should definitely come over to SE Asia to experience the abundance of life all around! Forget about your pitiful little sissy cleanliness mentality for a few weeks and you'll feel like being alive again! The bed-bugs hadn't migrated to the other bed, I had no problems at all. The few I saw, I crushed. Just a reminder, bed-bugs do not carry diseases, there completely harmless, except that some may be sensitive to their bites. Leeches however, do also extract blood, but this has been found to clean your blood, so bed-bugs might be just as beneficial to your health.”
