The Army Hotel has a great swimming pool which is this hotel's saving grace. The staff were extremely unfriendly, wouldn't look us in the eye. Our room on the second floor was quite run down, well below other hotels we'd stayed in for less money. The breakfast was okay, pretty thorough and as I said the pool was delicious in...

WE enjoyed our stay at the army hotel. It is practical and accessible, not overly flashy but does the job. the thing we liked most was it's central location and pool. it was the only hotel we found that was in the area we wanted and had a pool. most hotels in the city did not have pools and we...

I arranged to stay at the Army Hotel with my daughter for a 5 day period starting 1 January 2007. This was our third hotel in Vietnam over a two week period so we had an idea of what to expect for our money. On check in, we were shown a very old and dirty room. The floors were not...

Do not expect a 5-star hotel but for a 3-star hotel, it is way above, head over shoulders, over other 3-star and even 4-star hotels. The strong points of this hotel are: a) quiet (away from the constant street honking of cars and bikes), b) very clean environment (the floors are actually shiny), c) the staff is friendly, d) hotel...

This hotel disappointed. Even by budget standards, the yellowing tile, gritty grey curtains and the flourescent light bulbs in the rooms meant that the place couldn't look much dingier. The unsmiling staff were almost caricatures of grumbly government employees. That said, the beds were firm and the water hot. The Pho at breakfast was ok, though if you don't eat...

Having stayed in Hanoi before and in the same area, we chose the Army because its location was very convenient to some excellent restaurants - Club Opera, The Emperor and the Sofitel Spice Garden amongst others. It is about five minutes walk from the Opera House. If you have never been to Hanoi before, you may find the streets leading...

We came to stay at this hotel as we were travelling with our children(14,11 and 8) it was hot and humid in Aug, so the kids needed a pool and we didn't want to pay 4/5 star hotel prices. The receptionist staff are uninterested and yes you won't get a smile from them. They have a big suite which all...

The large swimming pool is a real bonus at this hotel although it does get very busy/ noisy. Good location near to the Opera House and French quarter. However, other than this I would say this hotel is distinctively average. The staff were unhelpful and unfriendly to the point of being rude. The bedroom and bathroom were a decent size...

This hotel is a quiet little refuge from the noise of Hanoi. Once through the gates, the constant beeping of horns and traffic noise disappears. The hotel is comfortable and clean. The staff are polite but not very friendly. The hotel is attached to the Ministry of Defence and was the old Army barrracks so maybe this explains their cool...

This is recommended because of its nice pool, great in the heat of Hanoi. The rooms are clean and spacious. However, the staff seem a bit reluctant to interact and they are not overly friendly. Breakfast is a buffet so you can eat what you want, but it does mean things are a bit cold. At $40 for a twin...
