The staff are extremely friendly and helpful but the appearance of the hotel is neglected. Except for the main lobby and Executive lounge, the whole hotel would benefit from a refurbishment. Food was good but the restaurants operated on restricted days and hours. No where to get food or drink after 10:30pm. I'm sure that in its day this was a top class hotel and that a little TLC would make it so again. Perfectly located next to the old city and walking distance to many sights. I would stay again but would not return with 5 star expectations.
We stay in 3 difference hotels this trip and you are the best! Your hospitality, your service mind, your food quality, your people, etc are out standing. Our daughter really like the room that you decorated for her also the Christmas sweet things and a huge bear in the room. We forgot our tablet in the plane and your staff just went back to the airport and got it back for us. This was so impressive. Thank you very much. It was wonderful staying at your hotel.
My wife and I stayed at the Shangri-La Chiang Mai in late November 2022. We were visiting Chiang Mai to celebrate our honeymoon. The hotel itself has a classic sort of charm - spacious lobby, high ceilings, and a gated uphill driveway. Christmas was approaching and we saw the staff setting up a sizable gingerbread house made out of real gingerbread. That was a nice warm touch. The concierge service was very accommodating. Chaow in particular went out of his way to ensure our 3 night stay was easy - from greeting us personally every time we returned to the hotel, to securing us beach towels for our elephant sanctuary visit. The room itself was upscale, although the hotel is definitely showing its age. The bed and furniture are all clean and comfortable. Small details like the toilet being situated awkwardly behind the bathroom door, and no available bedside outlet pose a minor inconvenience. Housekeeping did not refill or replace our toiletries the second night causing us to run out of body wash. Perhaps all these are just enough to hold it back from being a truly five-star experience. The sister of the king of Thailand (the princess) was on holiday staying at the hotel during the same time we were there. And so her security detail was often seen patrolling the lobby and grounds. The staff warned us that access to and from the hotel would be restricted during times she was leaving or entering. We never crossed paths with her as we often left early in the morning to explore the surrounding area and returned after dinner. It did feel like most of the hotel staff's attention were focused on her and her group. We could imagine for others, planning around the princess's schedule coming to and from the hotel would be an inconvenience. If nothing else, it's a testament to the quality of the hotel that it is fit for Thai royalty. The location is very good, a short walk from the weekday night market and not too far from the old town. In fact, it is walkable to pretty much all of the old town. There is a Michelin bib gourmand spot right across the street as well, which serves very good beef noodle soups. Overall, the Shangri-La Chiang Mai is an upscale hotel that offers a sort of classic luxury. And while there are certain small shortcomings, some travelers may find its price point makes up for that.…
My sister and I stayed at Shangri La Chiang Mai for 3 nights from 6 November 2022 and it was very pleasant indeed. The Hotel is set in large grounds, conveniently located for access to the town and airport, and the rooms were clean and well kept. The staff were most pleasing and helpful. The tours and tour operators recommended were reliable and competent. I hope to be able to visit and stay there again
In early November 2022, my sister and I enjoyed a wonderful stay here. The staff were all friendly, gracious, and professional. Through the great services of the Executive Club, we booked two delightful private tours to Elephant Preservation one day and to Chiang Rai's White and Blue Temples, and the Black House. The Spa was beautifully furnished, relaxing and the massages were fabulous. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. The people of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are most polite and helpful. I, along with my Wife and Son, stayed at this Hotel from 22 to 28 October 2022. If there is Heaven on Earth, then Chiang Mai surely feels like it. What better place to explore and experience Chiang Mai and it's surroundings from than Shangri La. The really outstanding features of this Hotel are the CHI Spa, China Kitchen Restaurant, Lounge Restaurant, impeccable service, unique location and lovely rooms. The full-day or half day trips when booked through the Hotel, take on another dimension and even their guidance and pointers are invaluable. This Hotel surely lives up to it's name
We usually stay in smaller-scale hotels in Chiang Mai but decided to try the Shangri-La Horizon Club this time since we were staying over my wife & daughter’s birthdays and we wanted something more special and luxurious than our usual; and it did not disappoint. In fact, from Check-in through departure the service provided by the hotel staff exceeded our expectations, including the amazing decorations provided to celebrate their birthdays! I’d especially like to recognize Joe, who provided top notch service from housekeeping, as well as the horizon club staff who were all very kind and helpful and contributed to a memorable and enjoyable stay.
Back to the Shangri-la for the first time since 2019. Fantastic as ever in the Horizon club. Staff cant do enough to help. Standards have certainly been kept up. Of course, the elephants come from the Shangri-la in Chiang Mai, so it was a welcome return home. They even got some new hats. Special mention for concierge reserving a parking space for us right outside the entrance.
My sons and I had an incredible 10 day stay at Shangri-la Chiang Mai. The first thing we experienced as soon as we arrived were the smiling, courteous, helpful and efficient staff. Checkin was a breeze, our room was very clean and spacious. The bathroom was well laid out with plenty of space, and the water pressure, air conditioning were excellent. The housekeeping staff were wonderful and left us a cheerful note (thank you, Joe!). The daily replenishment of water were also appreciated. The beds and pillows were luxurious and very comfortable. Despite being in the centre of Chiang Mai, it wasn’t noisy and the hotel grounds itself around the swimming pool was lush and green. There were good food choices in the hotel (Kad Cafe was lovely), but just a hop and a skip away were fantastic F&B choices (with some Michelin guide recommended eateries), Rote Yam for its wonderful beef noodles, Baan Landai which is 5 mins on a tuktuk for excellent interpretation of modern Thai cuisine, Choei Cafe and C9 Cafe for simple delicious meals, L’Opera for nice cakes and gelato and Signature Coffee, A Day in Chiang Mai, and countless excellent cafes serving excellent coffee. We enjoyed our experience at Shangri-la very much and look forward to returning!…
We enjoyed so much this relaxing stay at the Shangri-La Chiangmai mai hotel. Our room was very spacious , house cleaning was prompt and efficient. Most of all, our concierge Chaow went out of his way to arrange all the meals in details for us in different local restaurants. Many thanks to him.
