I first stumbled upon this hidden gem back in 1999. If you didn't know it was there you would never find it. Down a quiet Soi (alley) in an old traditional Thai home was Mama and Apple Guest House (then called Apple 2). Over the years I have stayed there many times and always make a point of staying at...

After more than 30 years of visiting this GH I came back to find the old one knocked down and a new one built in its place. No one told me this was going to happen even though I had been there just before demolition started. As a result all my belongings that had been left in storage had been...

I have stayed many times since 1988 in the original building which "Mama" opened in 1982 when foreign backpackers first began arriving in Bangkok. It was an old traditional wooden building in a small alley linking Phra Sumen and Phra Arthit Roads. About a year ago Mamas family decided to demolish it and rebuild in a more modern style so...

This guesthouse is one of the original backpacker places in Bangkok which continues to be run by the same.family. I first stayed there in 1988 and I am pleased to say that it was still a friendly place in 2013 owned by the same elderly lady, known as Mama. She is helped by several members of her family who are...

This guest house is actually in Bangkok. Is near Khao San Road (5 min), and is less noisy in the night, so you won't have problems sleeping. In the same street, there are a few other guest houses (I imagine similar to this one). My friends and I stayed in two double bedrooms with fan for 200Bth/night (100Bth per person.....

“All rooms are brand new and have access to a toilet just across the corridor. The back side of the building gets less direct sun so cooler”

“Try to get a room on the first floor up. The top floor sometimes gets too hot. Get a room with windows to the outside for some breeze but make sure you close the wooden shutters when you go out. If you are staying a few days they will always let you change rooms if one is available. There is also a dorm.”
