Shanghai mansion is a nice hotel in China town. When we arrived we were greeted with cold chrysanthemum tea and a cold towel. We checked in, then they escorted us to our room and showed us our room amenities and the free mini bar. The room is as pictured but feels smaller in person. Everything was clean and orderly in...

Fantastic experience in a different to the norm hotel. The dim sum was the best I have eaten outside of Hong Kong. A step outside to experience the wonderful street eating in Chinatown. Flaming woks everywhere producing wonderful food.

We booked our room based on the location and great reviews. Upon our arrival in Thailand, we took the Skytrain (with one transfer at Makkasan Station) to Hualanphong, and then walked right to it. We walked in, quite hot with our backapcks, and were greeted by a cool towel and tea. Felt like kings.. then the room - beautifully decorated...

Chinatown Bangkok, is crowded, noisy, brash and at the same time colorful, vibrant and fascinating. I live in Thailand and this is my favorite area in Bangkok. The Shanghai Mansion is a respite from this sometimes overwhelming atmosphere. The eclectic nouveau Asian fusion decor is delightful and serene, We stayed 5 nights in the superior room and it had 4...

More people should stay in Chinatown to experience a more real Bangkok. I didn't try other hotels in the area but after staying at Shanghai Mansions I wouldn't bother. You step out of cab amidst the hustle & bustle and walk along a pretty corridor to the cool & arty foyer where you are greeted with tea & cake, and...

This place, takes you back. There was a jazz band playing, the place was lovely, had an evening of drinking cocktails. The decor was outstanding and in the heart of China town. Easy to get to, just ask anyone for the Shanghi Mansion

Quirky beautiful asian style room with excellent breakfast. Staff are helpful however the porter and tour planner will try to sell you excusions or taxis above the going rate, always insist on a taxi on the meter from the hotel or you will get ripped off. Location is good, easy to get to the main city as well as the...

We stayed for four nights in this hotel, it's location is great, especially for street food at night. The room was beautifully decorated, quite spacious and kept very clean. You also get free refreshments which are replenished each day! The decor throughout the hotel was very good, felt very traditional and welcoming. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The...

The fantastic welcome we received on arrival, well after midnight, was indicative of the quality of service we were to receive during our whole stay. The decor in the public areas and bedrooms is beautiful and the calm and serene atmosphere within was a total contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city outside. The breakfasts were delicious, inspiring...

Staying in Chinatown / Yaowarat

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown / Yaowarat
Better known as 'Yaowarat' among locals, Chinatown is Bangkok's bustling district that never sleeps. During the day, the main street and its small alleyways are filled with a vibrant mix of colours, scents and flavours coming from the roadside restaurants and all-day markets. The real action, however, happens after sunset. Surrounded by neon lights, Thais and tourists alike flock here around dinnertime to feast on some of the best street food in town. Escape the chaos by venturing a little further from the main road and discover hidden shrines, friendly locals and daily life in its purest form.
