Great position, cheap, quiet, safe, on the river, nicely furnished and an amazing rooftop restaurant and bar just upstairs which was open from 730am-11pm daily. Very close to china town and about 5km squared of street markets, close to central station and the post office. Friendly helpful staff, close to 711 and a really nice feel. Definitely get aircon as...

Outgrown or tired of the freak parade on Khao San Road? Then try this genuine Thai neighborhood hotel. It may be a little hard to find but that's the beauty of it. No touts or tuk tuk drivers bothering you, just everyday life happening around you. I stay here every time I pass through Bangkok because first and foremost it's...

Stayed here three nights in a Young Traveler (400 baht) room. The place is tough to find the first time but we came to like the location. 15 minute walk from hua lamphong, ten minute walk from Chinatown, and five minute walk to the river ferry. The room was better than other budget rooms we saw if slightly more expensive....

Ugly rooms and it smelled bad the hole time I was there. The rooms get clean everyday but the place still looks bad. The night lady in the lobby was very nice and kind but the day lady was not. Location is not good either, the hole neighborhood smelled like car oil. I wouldn't stay there again, you can get...

Horrible hotel, NOTHING like the pictures on their website !!!! Rooms are NOT renovated and disgusting. They first tried to put us in a more expensive room pretending they didnt have our reservation. Then all of the sudden a room became available. We went to check it out to find a room uncleaned. Came back down the 3 flights of...

I found this hotel in tripadvisor and I wish I never did! We paid to stay two nights and left after one night. First of all, we heared a lot about roof top view and hoping to have nice time there. BUT nobody talks that ROOF TOP RESTAURANT and hotel are TWO DIFFERENT BUSINESSES! “You have to order something to...

Not to far walk from the train station and good location to catch the river ferries to tourist spots up the river. While we were there they were renovating so offered a cheaper rate. during the day time there was noise from the builders but during the night it was quiet. Room was basic but had everything you would need....

This GH is far beyond my expectation and we stayed another day after the 1st night. The GH is around 15min walk from the train station, just next to China town. Be prepared to get lost if you are going there for the first time coz the place hides in a small lane. The room is basic and clean and...

We booked for 11 nights and stayed for 1 and that was only because we arrived late. They must have spent all the money on the photographer for the website because everything else was shabby. We stayed in the Oriental whatever and it was basic, very basic. The fridge was the size of a postage stamp and shut off with...

Stayed there in March before the planned renovations going on in April and have been staying there a few times before during the past 20 years. But time has outrun this place. The terrace is absolutely great and one of the few places in Bangkok with some air that isn't 5-star. The restaurant is good too and Chinatown is still...

Staying in Chinatown / Yaowarat

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown / Yaowarat
Better known as 'Yaowarat' among locals, Chinatown is Bangkok's bustling district that never sleeps. During the day, the main street and its small alleyways are filled with a vibrant mix of colours, scents and flavours coming from the roadside restaurants and all-day markets. The real action, however, happens after sunset. Surrounded by neon lights, Thais and tourists alike flock here around dinnertime to feast on some of the best street food in town. Escape the chaos by venturing a little further from the main road and discover hidden shrines, friendly locals and daily life in its purest form.
