If you've traveled to Bangkok before, you would know what to expect already. I was gearing towards the last leg of my odyssey around Asia and i just arrived in Bangkok. With no prior booking, i was looking for the best place to stay around Khao San. I already knew that staying at Viengtai Hotel would not be cheap. It's...

Great location, set on a tourist strip full of bars and restaurants. Stayed on 8th floor facing the strip. Couldn't sleep whatsoever so if you want somewhere quiet do not stay here Room was clean. Was looking forward to having a bath after a 10 hour road journey only to find there was no hot water! Checked out early morning...

i stayed there like 5-6 times in the last 4 years, every time i have to spend the weekend in Bangkok. The good thing about it is that Chabad House of BKK is just across the street, so there you have a full service (shabat prayers and kosher meals) thru all Shabat. the rooms in the hotel have regular (not...

After more that 2 decades we were grateful to spend six of the last days of the Viengtai we have come to love. A couple of days after we left the Viengtai closed for refurbishment - could be up to two years we were told. An agreement has been signed with the Accor group to manage the refurbished venue as...

It's a shame that the Viengtai is closing, I hope that when it reopens under a more famous name that it retains it's charm. The highlight for me was the pool area, a little oasis amid the chaos! I look forward to the grand reopening in 2 years time!

Rooms basic but clean and comfy. Staff helpful and friendly. Pool area welcome place to chill. Felt very safe and a little haven amidst the chaos that is Bangkok. Very good value for money. Special thankyou to Mr Gamart, one of the bell boys, who went above and beyond his job role to help me get to my bus stop...

This has been a great hotel in the busy Khosan Road area. TheThai owner has sold the hotel / land on Rambuttri Road and the dear old Viengtai Hotel is closing at the end of the month. All the staff will find new jobs, and they are selling off the artwork from the hotel and some of the funds will...

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighbourhood Profile
Banglamphu
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.
