The Artists Place has become our home-base for all of our Southeast Asian and Indian travels. Charlee and the community of locals in and around the Artists Place are incredibly kind, caring and helpful. If you are looking for an authentic experience in Bangkok come here. It is a world away from Khao San Rd! Here you spend the days... More

We unfortunately only stayed here for one night. If we would visit Trat again, we would come back to this place. The owner is very friendly (although we arrived at 11 p.m., possibly waking her). The rooms are very nicely decorated and are clean. The small garden is nice and peaceful. But please note that the bathroom doesn't have a... More

There is nothing quite like The Artist's Place in Bangkok! Both times I've stayed there (2009, and again now in 2014) have been incredible experiences. If you're looking for a 5 star hotel (or a Kao San Road experience) this is not for you - but for unique, local experiences, real Bangkok life, and a warm, kind, eccentric owner, it... More

We chose The Artist's Place after reading some great reviews (like those posted here) and so we were really excited for this fun, quirky, comfortable guesthouse. We were traveling as a group of 3 women who are all well traveled and have stayed in a wide variety of hostels, hotels and home stays in our travels. Unfortunately, we left after... More

I randomly walked into the place, was greeted by Charlee and offered fruits, immediately fell in love, ended up staying in BKK twice more than initially planned -- would've hated the city if i hadn't found the Artist's Place! The place has an artsy, hippie atmosphere with the owner Charlee's paintings, poems and other decorations everywhere. Various and spacious common... More

Super nice hostel of the tourist grid! We where to stay a couple of nights before we went on to Chang Mai but ended up staying like two weeks. The hostel is always visited by Charlies friends and family which sends of such a nice vibe. Charlee even invited us to his weekend house in Trat. I would recommend the... More

Charlee is the kind soul who's been a fixture of Krung Thonburi Soi 1! His guesthouse isn't developed for the person who wishes to take a break from city life. It's abit funky: postings, art, statues, trinkets. He's made major upgrades over the years. Most recent is the open patio overlooking the corner of the soi. Don't worry, you will... More

The signs around The Artists Place say it all, "Some guesthouses make profits, we make friends." The first time we stayed there we planned to stay for one night and ended up staying almost two weeks. Perfect for those wanting a home-feel guesthouse with character rather than the busy and loud Khaosan Rd digs. Set in a charming, local Thai... More
