We stayed here for our honeymoon early September for 10 days. The hotel was being rebuilt on one side so we didn't see it in its full glory. It is a nice quiet hotel away from the loud, busy streets of Kathmandu. The room was...More

We spent a day here to sleep off after an exhausting Yatra to Mount Kailash. This is a palace turned hotel and has plenty of character. It is a sort of mystery hotel as I could not get my head around how they have numbered...More
I really wanted to give Hotel Shanker a better review, but it holds itself out as a 4 Star hotel, so must be judged on that basis. There are many positives about the hotel. The garden is well maintained and expansive. The pool area is...More

hi. stayed there in June this year. It is a historic building so yes it is old but it is a former Palace so its a beautiful building. We had a suite so can't tell you about the standard rooms. It is undergoing a substantial renovation of the main portico and entrance lobby and the garden facing rooms but this did not detract from my stay. The manager said the renovation was due to be finished in August. The breakfast had a buffet style and I believe they had Indian vegetarian items. But I cannot be certain. Suggest you drop them an email. I found the hotel staff to be very friendly and helpful. The hotel felt like an oasis away from the dust of Kathmandu and was well placed for Thamel, and Durbar Square.
