Hotel Shanker, Kathmandu is a heritage hotel, housed in a 19th-century palace in the heart of Kathmandu city. It was the royal residence of the rulers of Nepal, from 1894 until 1964, when it was converted into a hotel. The facade and traditions were kept intact but the interiors were redesigned to give travelers the kind of comfort they'd expect of a world class hotel. The hotel is characterized by exquisite and authentic objects d'art. For example, the carved windows displayed in the lobby bar are over 200 years old.

We stayed here on two occasions when visiting Kathmandu and transiting back from Pokhara.

The hotel is very grand as you would expect from a former palace. The older rooms are also huge and offer multiple rooms like a small flat. Which is great.

The restaurant is very good alth

Well maintained classic building (used to be the royal residence earlier) with impressive frontage and lobby. Very good service. Even though it is in Lazimpet (and next to Thamel), the property is set well back from the street with a large garden in front. So, no road noise etc.

Hi, I'm planning to visit Pokhara this month. I have heard that passport is not necessary for Indian citizens to visit Nepal. I'm looking forward to stay at your hotel. Could you please confirm if you accept Indian National Identity Cards other than passport as I don't currently have one but I have other Identity Proof documents issued by Government of India.
yes for indian nationals any kind of identification issued by the government is good. Thank You.

Is the Spa functional and renovation done? Many say that the rooms do not have a good view. Me and my 2 kids (18 and 21) need one room - I cannot see pics of the standard double room and the suite room on MMT. If we take a standard double room, can it house 3 beds comfortably? Are airport drops provided free, at least one side? Wish to reconfirm if all building work is over and is the airconditioning working well as many seem to be complaining of that
We stayed on May 27th. We had airport pick up and drop off, it was included in the cost. Our room was a Deluxe Suite (720) it was big and had windows but no view of anything. Also the air con was smelly and obviously needed cleaning. We had a massage and were taken to a regular hotel room on the lower floor, I assumed this meant the spa was being renovated.
