Located right in the heart of thamel, with free airport transport, affordable (and clean) rooms and amazing staff, hotel potala was great. Staff were very friendly, always up for a chat and repeatedly empahised to let them know if we needed anything. I would really reccomend visiting, but it may be a good idea to bring ear plugs if you... More

This accommodation was organised by my guide and was fine. Shared a room with another trekker which worked out well. Rooms cost but workable. It is well located in Thamel - an easy walk to many eating places. One downside is the restaurant is woefully slow. It offers an ok coffee but you need to be patient (15 minute waits... More

budget in price, but cleanliness and hospitality of owners says otherwise. Double/ triple ensuite rooms represent the best value. Ensure you get a room on the eastern side of the building otherwise Purple Haze (rock bar next door) will keep you awake until 0000. Lovely roof top with views extending to Swayambhunath.

Clean, no mosquitos, employees are very nice and respectful, located in the center of Kathmandu ( great for tourists), you feel like you're surrounded by family, it's simply home sweet home. You can't help but fall in love with this place and with everyone in this hotel. I'd like to share my personal experience, i got sick while staying there... More

The Potala was a wonderful place to stay at while in Thamel. Rooms were clean with an attached, and outstanding, bathroom/shower. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. This place has one of the best outdoor spaces with the most amazing waterfall and garden area. In a chaotic, busy city, this garden is relaxing and peaceful. We loved staying here and will... More

We tried some of the lonely planet restaurant recommendations for Tibetan/Nepali food and found the Potala restaurant to be better by far.Mommos, thupka and Nepali thali were the best we ate in Nepal. The friendly manager and staff are eager to ensure you enjoy the food.would recommend the outdoor balcony overlooking busy Thamel.

Rishi and his staff were wonderfully welcoming, always friendly and helpful. I had previously stayed in another Thamel hotel that was dirty, dark and the staff were not friendly, so Hotel Potala was a wonderful change and I will definitely be staying here again whenever I am in KTM. The staff even brought me an extra blanket without my asking... More

My husband and I needed to move from our previous guesthouse to something more within our budget. We pay only $10 a night, and our room is very comfortable... especially given the fair price we paid. The power in the city goes out often, but the staff always offer to bring us a thermos of tea or hot water. They... More

The best things about Hotel Potala are its rooftop garden, with its great city views, its location (very central Thamel), and the restaurant (excellent chocolate pancakes for breakfast). Yes the amenities could be more modern, but the rooms are great value and the staff happy to help you with anything! There is a bit of noise at night but this... More
