We booked a private room for 1 night and was pleasantly surprised.. The room we had had 2 bunk beds and 1 big bed but that was fine. It had aircon, a decent clean bathroom, warm water (not hot but they mention it). Wifi worked well and the staff were really kind and helpful.

We founded there nice and cheap accommodation to stay for a few days. This hostel don't deserve bad comments like this especially if you have on your mind how cheap it is. Room was clean and bathroom very nice with hot water. AC was old but work properly. Owner was very helpful and give us all information we were needed.

We arrived at this hostel at night and it had a weird vibe. There was no one there, and the staff weren't very helpful. They have a poster advertising the movie "hostel" which also makes its very creepy. The bathroom was not clean and one of the beds had a very loud air conditioner blowing straight onto it. They also charged us $35 USD to pick us up from the airport whereas it should have been around the $16 USD dollar mark.

Hi dear I have read the coment Sorry for the bed that received air cond directly . Do you know you can turn the direction of the air con the way you like best. I like the sugestions , if you dont like the poster you should let me know what you feel and ia can get rid of it . it is stranger that you say the bathroom was not clean because it is the first thing that we take care about. you can see our score in cleanless is the highest. But it can help us to be looking every second all the places to be cleaned. We always work hard to keek Tamarindo hostel for your budget, I invite you to come and see the difference.

We stayed for two nights on arriving in San Pedro Sula for a six-week holiday travelling through central America. It being the first few days of the trip, staying in what the guide book describes as the world's most dangerous city, the Tamarindo was an ok choice - but (especially compared to what else we experienced over the six weeks) no more than that. Positives: - Felt very secure - Private rooms available alongside a dormitory option - We were able to choose air con which was nice as we adjusted to the heat - Breakfast was included in the price - Seems to be run by locals / a local family - Responded to queries by email very promptly Improvements: - Unlike the more well-known Hamaca hostel which was much more helpful, the Tamarindo arranged very expensive taxis from the airport and to the bus station. For two people, from the airport was $25, while to the bus station was $20. This is way more than the going rate and it's a shame the hostel doesn't appear to be on the side of travellers in helping them to avoid being taking advantage of here. - Emails were responded to in good English so we were a bit surprised that the staff didn't speak very good English in person (though they tried). Although this shouldn't be a given, and it's down to us to know some Spanish, it did make things a bit trickier in getting to grips with the city in the first few days. - The hostel was incredibly quiet throughout our stay - we didn't meet any other foreign guests. People looking to meet and get tips and advice from other travellers should perhaps look elsewhere. - The breakfast was pretty small.

Hi dear BenHammond I am sorry that when you came to the hostel there were no more travellers to talk with . There are sometimes people reserve private room and that is why they dont see more people as if they were in a dorm. And there are some days that coincidentially there are no more persons the day you came . it is unbelievable to hear the transportation prices . may be you did not hear well because the prices for the bus station now is about $6 usd for 2 persons. The breakfast you can eat all you can, if you need to repeat we could give you a refil for breakfast hope to have you again and see the difference. kind regards

i stayed here one night. it was weird, no one else was in the entire dormitory room of a dozen beds. i liked the solitude, but the staff were very unfriendly unless you seemed like you might be giving them money. when i checked in the boy at the desk tried to overcharge me. he then just said your room's upstairs and that was it. no information about anything. when i asked anything they angrily looked at me like i was an idiot. the hostel seems to have a kitchen with no refrigerator. it seems to have a menu on the wall but offers no food. when you are inside you are locked behind a metal gate which, in order to leave you must hunt down the old man who holds the key but wanders into the neighboring apartment building. sometimes you cant get out. i paid $20 USD for a taxi to get there from the airport. that seems to be the standard overcharged price for tourists. when i was leaving i asked for a taxi. the lady working there said "ooooh $25" i told her the $20 i previously paid was too much, nevermind, i'll go find my own rip-off taxi. then she said "ooooh its very special luxury taxi" yeah right. we agreed on $20 and the luxury taxi is their broken family van. the sliding door is electric. i think thats the fake luxury. the neighborhood is gross, industrial and close to nothing except actual junkyards and dying dogs and garbage piles and insane traffic. no bueno.

Hi Erick You came in a day there were no more people. We have a dozen beds because we usually have more people in the room. but it was your loky day, you were alone . We are not as you say smiling only when you seemed like you might be giving money. We love to help and advise our guests and be helpfull It seams you are confused because we never see people angrilly . Dont believe that about yourself. i was looking for the reservations in June and i did not see your name. Travellers are the why we are working and staying alive . Sorry you did not see the 4 refrigerators we have. Sorry you did not see the food we offer on our menu. transportation prices are not invented by us . those are the average prices in everywhere in San pedro Sula . Most of our guest like to be safe with us so because they asked we have a locked metal gate and you can leave and enter everytime you like. Our Van is the safest way to carry you and your lugage for the same price of any taxi in the street. I hope to have you again and we will treat you as you are : a very important person. For your health please dont allow bad thinkings on your mind. Be happy kind regards

I stayed here a year ago and was pleased. I came through San Pedro Sula later in the evening this year and stayed again. It's a very nice Hostel and i felt very safe, in what is said to be a not safe city. The woman again was very helpful and pleasant and helped me with my bus ticket to LaCeiba. It is nice to have someone able to speak English! I stayed in the Dorm room which was very nice with a nice bathroom and shower, also lockers. i loved the 'Picassa-style' paintings on the walls .. very colorful and upbeat. No complaints, I highly recommend this Hostel .... the little puppy Rocco is a big boy now.... and very sweet ! Thank you for running a very nice Hostel !

I arrived late at night which isn't a good thing in this city. The taxi driver knew exactly where the place was so that went well. A nice hostel with a nice host, I think her name was lorett? Safe location and a comfortable bed. You can purchase TICA bus tickets at the hostel for a small fee and they arrange the taxi for early morning departures. I only gave 4 stars because I don't want to overuse the 5 which I save for really top notch places.

Unfortunately this hostel was a huge disappointment. We stayed here because lonely planet recommended it in their guidebook and it was quite convenient with location to the bus terminal. The room was terrible. The bed looked like it was 20 years old and the overall appearance of the room was quite bleak and poor. The staff, a young man and older woman weren't friendly. They did what they had to do to organize our taxi in the morning and our bus tickets but it didn't look like they were doing this with pleasure. More like " what do you want?" type attitude. I an imagine any young couple enjoying their stay here with the bleakness of this room. In the morning we saw a huge cockroach at the front door. The young man was suppose to have breakfast for us but when we arrived to the kitchen nothing had been made and the guy was sleeping on the couch. He didn't apologize or care.. To conclude, if you are a couple and need a private room, find something else.

Pretty good hostel with nice dorms and good people. The kitchen was a mess but besides that, no problems. This hostel is the only place in town where you can get bus tickets from TICA bus or other companies after the regular work time, making it somehow special to backpackers only looking for a place to stay for the night. Disregarding the long taxi ride from the bus station to this hostel, I would definitely recommend it, specially because of Rocco :D.
