A tuktuk driver recommended Carrillo's Hotel. It is small but very clean - and cheap! The courtyard is lovely. They lock the gates at night, but give you a key. The staff is very friendly, although they do not speak much English. I recommend knowing some basic Spanish. It is walking distance to just about anyplace you want to go in Copan, including the ruins.

First, the rooms are smallish, but clean and well kept. The price is quite reasonable. It got shower, small but hot water. You might find a few cockroaches, but who cares. The problem was, I was out in the evening and when I came back, the outer gate was closed by a big padlock. I made a lot of noise, but no use. Nobody came. I ended staying in a nearby hostel for the night. The next morning I complained and have been told, they would take care, so I could open the door through a small window. The next eveneing, at just 6.30 pm the gate was closed again by padlock. This time I raised hell, so that the neighbours came out in the street and I finally got in. At least after they provided me with a key for the padlock. The money for the missed night I got back, after I demanded a refund.

We went to Carrillo's Hotel straight from where the bus from San Pedro left us, because of the recommendations it has here. And we were not disappointed. We paid 350 for a twin with fan, the room wasn't too big but it was clean with a nice bathroom, we had some ants issues but it was quickly solved. But what sold us was the amazing hammock area! We had had a rough couple of days on our travels and it was soooo cool to just lie up there and unwind. Surprisingly it was quite fresh even in the middle of the day, and as there weren't too many mosquitoes it was perfect for relaxing in the evening. The super friendly family that runs the place lives just next door and there is always somebody on the premises to help out. The supermarket is literally in front of the hotel and it is 2 min walk to the main square (make sure to stop by there in the evening to eat some good street food). The wifi worked very well, and there's a free drinking water. We bought a shuttle ticket with them to go to Antigua, Guatemala, and everything went smooth (there is just one agency in town anyway, so it doesn't matter where you buy your ticket). Highly recommended! If you can, get a room right in front the entrance, the rooms on the right side can get warm in the afternoon.

Great little hotel, very clean, hot water, nice terrasse with hammocks, very safe and very close to bus stop and nice restaurants (from busstop: cross the bridge, turn right, take the next road to your left and then you see the hotelgate on your right). One of the best hotels during my 5-months trip through Central America.

We arrived to Copan very late at night due to a bus breakdown and happened upon this incredible place that was not in our travel book. The staff is super friendly and even cooked us dinner the first night because all the surrounding restaurants were closed. The beds are very comfy, bathrooms are huge with great water pressure, the covered hammock area is very relaxing, and the garden areas are beautiful. This might be my favorite hostel in C. America. Did I mention clean towels every morning plus free water, wifi, and morning coffee?!? It is also across from a big grocery store, near the bus terminal, and a 10 minute walk from the ruins. All of this for $12 per couple! Love it!
