I was disappointed with this hotel. The rooms are large with a great balcony but very dated furniture. The bed was okay. There is only a sheet on the bed no blankets. We ended up using our travel blankets. The lighting was limited especially in the bathroom. The shower had low pressure and the water never really got hot, several times the water went from warm to cold to warm or cold. They do not supply drinking water in the room (at least not in our room) you have to go to the lobby to fill your water bottles. The restaurant was okay but they were understaffed. There are three pools and a hot tub. The hot tub didn’t appear to be working. The lower pool had a slimy bottom but the two upper pools were nice. We stayed at several hotels in Belize this not the nicest and the most expensive place we stayed. If we go back I would look for somewhere else to stay. It wasn’t terrible it was just okay. …
Cahal Pech Hotel, and resort is on the top of the hill overlooking San Ignacio, Belize. This was my second visit. I arrived at 6 PM and sat for 30 minutes waiting for a waiter or waitress. I got up and called my cab to leave After 30 minutes. There were only two other tables occupied and well along in their dinners. Notably, this was the second time this happened to me at the same resort’s dining room. How do they survive? I told the front desk of these two experiences on my way out the door. They gave me a blank stare, said nothing in the way of apologies or explanation. This resort appears to be a disaster with respect to customer service.
Nice location with a scenic view of San Ignacio and beautiful sunset views. Conveniently short drive to central town area and nearby excursions. Spacious bungalow with screened porch/lanai, but a steep walk to and from the parking lot and restaurant/pool. Some wear and tear of many materials, some maintenance would go a long way. Beds were not especially comfortable. Food at restaurant had reasonable variety but was not exceptional. Wifi was a bit spotty in the bungalow, but better near the office/restaurant. Three pools, but all a little cold, not very deep, and lots of noise from pump equipment - again, possibly a deferred maintenance issue. Staff was friendly and helpful and responsive to our requests (extra pillows, for example). Concierge/tour desk staff were very accommodating and efficient. The tour guides that they hired for our Caracal tour were knowledgeable, engaging, and entertaining.…
This resort was exactly what we were looking for. My wife and I visited for our honeymoon - and this was Lag 1. The food was great, drinks were great (Walter the bartender was our man!) and the activities were amazing. We only stayed 4 days, and had 3 tours/day trips planned - to ATM Cave, Xunantunich pyramids by horseback (Elio was the best tour guide I’ve ever had) and then to Guatemala for our final tour. We’re the type that likes to be busy as and enjoying new experiences when possible. That was accomplished during our visit. We met a few nice couples as well during our excursions.
We had such a fun stay at Cahal Pech. Our rooms were super-spacious and comfortable. All of the staff we encountered - from front desk to concierge to restaurant to drivers - were so friendly and helpful. Lenny organized our tours for us, and they were so much fun. We did the jungle pontoon trip with Nadir, Tikal in Guatemala, the ATM tour with Basilio, and cave tubing. I would highly recommend all of them.
We had reached out to Cahal Pech when we were looking at making our travel arrangements to Belize and Guatemala. Lenny had let us know early on that he could set up all of our logistics and plans for the trip and came back with an itinerary that looked great. We were nervous going into the trip if things would work out. I cannot believe how great everything went for us. We were picked up from the airport as soon as we landed and brought to the Cahal Pech resort. The resort sits above San Ignacio and has a great view. The kids got into the pool right away. Everyone at the resort is amazing and helpful. The following day we had a tour to Xunatunich and the guide was great. We spend the 2nd half of the day exploring the Cahal Pech ruins on our own and right around the corner of the resort. The following day we had an all day tour to Caracol and Rio on Pools. The road to Caracol is a bit rough and i was glad that i was not driving. Great day was had by all. The next day we were going to Tikal and had to be transferred at the border. Very confusing at the border and i was glad we had a guide who helped us across. The tour of Tikal was amazing and Geny the tour guide was the best and was very knowledgeable. We stayed at the Jungle lodge with howler monkeys calling out at night. We got up the next morning for a sunrise tour of Tikal and spend the rest of the day exploring Tikal on our own. Tikal is one of the greatest locations we have ever been to. The ruins, the jungle, and the wildlife were outstanding. The next day Geny took us to Yaxha in Guatemala and we went to the top of the temple and both Howler monkeys and spider monkeys were playing in the trees. Geny transferred us past across the border to Belize and we stayed at Cahal Pech again. The following morning we went ziplining and was transferred to the water taxi to go to Ambergris Caye and stayed at Ramon's. Ramon's is another perfect resort where you have a great location and the people are wonderful. We went snorkeling at Hol Chan and Shark Ray alley and had a great time. Cahal Pech arranged our flight from San Pedro back to Belize City for our transport home. I can't believe how well everything went on our trip. Cahal Pech really put together a great itinerary and arranged everything perfectly. I would recommend them to anyone. If we go back to Belize and Guatemala I would use them to arrange everything. Thanks for the memories.…
This place is great! We had a standard room on the third floor with a balcony and sweeping views of the resort below, the town and the surrounding hills. Easy to walk downtown and taxi back later. The customer service was stellar. Great cocktails, excellent at planning local excursions. Really good breakfasts. We thought dinner was just ok. And our room had a bit of a musty smell. I would for sure stay here again though for the view and the pool. Three pools! We also loved watching toucans right from the restaurant there.
There is a carnival right down the hill the week of Christmas. Rave, thump, thump music till all hours. No sleep to be had. The carnival is empty and just scary unsafe rides....so not even worth the noise.
I stayed at this hotel for 1 night as part of an organised tour, it was an overnight stop between Tikal in Guatemala and Caye Caulker. San Ignacio seemed to be a nice small town with tourist bars and restaurants. The hotel is located on a hill above the town, it took us about 15 minutes to walk to town and 20 minutes to walk back. On arrival the reception area was quite nice, and the grounds and pool looked good too. The wifi worked well in the reception and restaurant but it turned out not to be the case for the rooms. There was a mix of a main building with rooms and some huts over the grounds, we stayed in the main building. There was no lift but porters helped with bags. My room wasn't that great, it looked dated and at the same time gave the impression of when somewhere has just been renovated but hasn't yet been cleaned. The bed was large and comfortable, but there was no mattress protector and someone else in our group who looked at their mattress said it looked pretty dire. The bathroom wasn't particularly well laid out, there was a step up to get in and another step up to the sink area. There was no bath tub just a shower, and the hot water wasn't particularly reliable. We had both lunch and breakfast at the hotel. The lunch options were limited due to a function at the hotel that evening, but what was available was nice and reasonably priced. Service was a little slow when using the bar in the evening. Their breakfast menu looked really good, but as we had breakfast included they laid on a small buffet for us. This was ok, there was fruit and mango juice as well as coffee, scrambled eggs, sausage, refried beans, and some waffles. Overall this hotel was ok for an overnight stop but I wouldn't have wanted to stay any longer. There are a couple of nicer placs in San Ignacio, and staying closer to the town itself would be more convenient.…
It was really an excellent experience!! Adventure, a lot of archeological stuff, climbing, swimming, walking, trough the cave. We enjoyed it very very much. Also we saw a corol snake. Thank you Basilio for the great guidance at the ATM experience!
