This is a review of the river tour. We did not stay at or eat at the Nature Resort. We had a spur of the moment river tour with these guys. Its the end of the rainy season - tourism season not really kicking up yet. We were able to call in the morning and get a canoe trip that afternoon. Dr Young and Kevin took us several miles upstream and then we had a float back down the Belize River for about 6 miles. The river was higher and faster and 'muddier' than I think it would be at the height of the tourist season. It was a very nice tour. Kevin was good at spotting several different groups of howler monkeys in the trees and many kinds of birds. We saw 4 types of heron, some ibis, kingfishers, and the ubiquitous cattle egrets as well as many small colorful songbirds. There were also a few basilisk lizards and about 200 iguanas of different sizes and colors. Kevin did a great job with the boat, navigating us close to one bank or the other to get sight of something, and he was knowledgeable about the things we saw. Both men shared some history of the area as well. The mud on the banks was significant. We managed to get into the boat without getting too muddy but got very muddy when getting back out at the end. Wish we had just taken our shoes off because we sunk up to our ankles in the mud. I doubt this is an issue at other parts of the year. And the guys were very helpful with us washing our shoes after, providing a hose and bucket and brush. We did not notice bugs on the river. I'm one of those people who gets bit easily and I didn't notice anything on the river itself. On shore it was a little buggy - again probably due to the time of year? We took one good camera with us on the trip and had no issues keeping it dry. We were moving right along this time of year, so you gotta be prepared to take photos while on the move. Kevin mentioned that they usually run this tour in the morning and you see more wildlife then. We engaged these guys because a local on our flight into the country told us about them. He recommended the night tour but we were more interested in a daytime float. The tour was $40 US per person. The only reasons I'm not giving this an 'excellent' rating: -I think it could have been possible to have more to step on for an easier step into and out of the boat -because there was this one really emaciated dog wandering around the area that no one seemed to be taking care of. I saw it several times. It was not their dog. But it disturbed me very much - to the point where this marred the experience for me.

Stay here if you want a quiet, gorgeous place. The food is delicious, varies, and affordable. The owners are kind. You're also right near a monkey walk. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful place.

The cultural food prepeared on the premise was absolutely delicious. The staff was very accommodating as we were also driven to the Lamanai. The grounds are immaculate. There is a baboon sanctuary within walking distance. The only thing at the end of day, not much else to do. No big deal, just bring cards and beer!

We had an amazing couple of nights in Cashew 10. The room was spotless, the beds really comfy and the food was fantastic. If you choose Nature Resort make sure you include breakfast and dinner as there isn’t much else around. Dr Roy and his team were great, sorted all our tours at the drop of a hat. Don’t miss the Baboon Sanctuary (the main reason to stay here). We also did Lamanai and Belize Zoo which were great too. A really great place, with lovely people. We would stay again in a heartbeat.

I visited The Nature Resort with 2 friends and stayed in the CASHEW room #10. It was an amazing experience. The room is comfortable and clean. The porch with a hammock was so comfortable. There are quiet and well maintained grounds! We saw wildlife each morning (such as an agoudi) and really felt taken care of by Marya, Roy and all the staff! The resort is on the same property at the Howler Monkey Reserve Museum and just a short walk to the reserve itself. We got a personal tour from ROGER- he was the best! He talks to the monkeys and let them get so close to use for Selfies! It was a DREAM! The meals at The Nature Resort (Breakfast and Supper) were plenty and UnBelizable! They consisted of typical Belizean cuisine (rice and beans with a meat) and desserts at night! We had plenty of filtered water provided in the community room. The community room provided an adequate Wifi signal for checking in with family and Facebook each evening. Roy, the owner, provided private transportation to all of the excursions and made sure to get us the best guides for each adventure. Edgar for the Lamanai boat ride and ruin tour, Jose for the Cave River Tubing and super friendly men for the zip lining. Roy, himself, gave us a tour at the Belize Zoo. He allowed us to stop at a grocery store on one of our trips. He encouraged us to talk to local people, such as sugar cane farmers. Roy knows EVERYONE in the whole area and is very friendly and well-respected. In the end, we debated about leaving the Nature Resort at all! We wanted to stay longer! But Roy transported us to the Water Taxi in Belize City, so we could continue our awesome vacation.

We reserved the Howler cabana, which consists of 2 rooms, but were given one room in that cabana and another in a different cabana. The cabanas were advertised as having refrigerators and did not. The owners did not seem to care at all when we complained. There were no apologies- instead they said we did not reserve the rooms we did, and that the rooms did not come with refrigerators (despite saying they did on the website)! In addition, we did not see a single monkey at the property (though we could hear them a ways away).

We had a pleasure to stay at Nature Resort and meet Dr. Roy Young who was our host, driver and tour guide. We loved our stay at his Mahogany cabana. It was amazing experience to wake up to howler monkeys since the resort is next to Baboon sanctuary. Upon our arrival we chose to do a day trip via boat to Lamanai ruins. Our guide Carlos was very knowledgeable; on the way there we were able to spot many birds, bats, plants and even a baby alligator. Dr. Young helped us also arrange cave tubbing and took us to the Zoo- Must make time to see it!!! We walked to the Baboon Sanctuary to learn more about howler monkeys and met them in person. On the last day on the way to the water taxi we got to see Belize City. The food was amazing; we dined in every day for breakfasts and dinners. You can also purchase alcoholic beverages at the location. My favorite part of the stay were the horses at the range. I also greatly enjoyed the family and community vibe at the Nature Resort. Everyone was kind, generous and connected. A must stay! Plus they accept credit card.

Clean and good sized rooms, great creole food at Drina's in house restaurant. Roy is a very knowledgeable host eager to share information about the fauna, soil, local traditions and wildlife in the area. They have several tours available, but also open to servicing whatever adventures you have in mind. We did the River canoo tour, a zoo trip, and the spectacular boat trip to Lamanai. these were all incredible and the memories will last forever. For our last day we opted for a self guided hiking tour of Crooked Tree, and Roy was helpful organizing the transportation to and from the reserve. The resort is located right in the middle of the Community Baboon Sanctuary, so howler monkeys will be your neighbors, just adding to the experience. Highly recommended!

I very much enjoyed my 5 night stay at the Nature Resort... Roy and his staff made our stay a memorable one to say the least. I loved staying in a Cabana, the grounds are well maintained and lush. The food served was delicious, the cabana was comfortable and clean. Roy set up daily excursions for us and was very accommodating. I highly recommend staying at the Nature Resort. Oh, and while here make sure to visit the Howler Monkey’s!!

This is a pretty cool location. It's off the beaten path so you get a lot of peace and quiet. The prices lined up well with the value, and the dinner we had was top-notch. It's also really cool to be right next to the Community Baboon Sanctuary (highly recommend the tour). Beyond that, the staff were friendly and helpful and we got a good night's sleep. The reason for 3 rather than 4 or 5 stars has to do with some of the way things played out. We were charged the wrong amount the first night, even though we booked online. This created a small hassle, even though the dollar amount was low. The owner DID reimburse us, and claimed we were placed in the wrong room accidentally. So they took care of that, just a little annoying. Additionally the wifi didn't work when we got there. They added a new wifi account that we were able to login to, but that account wasn't available at other parts of the day (later that night, the next morning, etc.). The other issue, though, was that the hot was in the shower was broken. This was the end of our 12 day trip through the country and we certainly got used to some cold showers (usually felt nice). However, the resort advertised hot showers, and didn't deliver on that. It may not be a cultural aspect in Belize to make things right, but I think the usually customer service procedure is that if you don't deliver on what you promised, you make it right with the customer. That didn't happen in this situation, just a small apology and a explanation of "we'll report it to the owner." At that point we had taken a cold showers on a cool evening, so it was a little too late for anything to be fixed mechanically. I'm sure it wasn't the staff's fault, and I also imagine there should be some procedure in place for offering a small refund or credit or something like that in this kind of situation. Otherwise the rooms were clean and organized, and we still had a great time!
