Front Desk clerk when checking in, basically said "what do you want" and continued that attitude. Would not give Globalist upgrade until I had to get "ugly", said I booked on Expedia, when I had booked on Hyatt.com. Didn't offer me any globalist benefits like the water and since it was a Hyatt Place I knew I would get the free breakfast anyway. Checked out on 9/10 but still waiting on a manager call about a blouse left in the closet and a call from the manager about a cancelled reservation that was cancelled at the front desk with 2 Hyatt Place front desk clerks on 9/9 for a reservation for 9/11 to 9/18. Then on 9/11 I called just to make sure and the hotel said I (the person for the reservation is for and who made the reservation) was told Hyatt Reservations had to cancel--then Hyatt Reservations said the hotel told them my Fedl Govt Travel agency had to cancel, which the Fedl Govt Travel called them and cancelled, and on top of that as a Globalist I can cancel day of without any penalties or no-show fee, plus a Fed Govt rate allows to cancel day of. Anyway I was charged and when trying to speak to the manager since 9/11, the hotel keeps telling me, Hyatt Global Corporate, and the Fed Govt travel agency, there is no manager on site, no matter what day or time we call. That has to be a lie---what hotel doesn't have some sort of manager or person in charge on site?? Also, what sort of hotel won't ever let a person cancel---unless of course this Hyatt Place Natl Mall is up to shenanigans and scamming people (?). I am Diamond at Hilton, Lifetime Platinum, titanium at Marriott, so this means I travel and stay at hotels, and this hotel has many issues is a sham. Not to mention there were more than 4 charges that hit my credit card, more than the usual "put a hold" on my card The total cost of my stay was $657. So I have all these charges against my same credit card: $1,861, $1,861, $657, $641, when at the most should be 2.

The hotel stay was ok. The onsite staff was friendly and decent amenities. What was disappointing was, they double charged me on my credit card for the entire stay. I did the booking inline and fully at the time of booking. At the time of checkin, they asked for the credit card and it was normal. But after 2 days i do see extra charge of $300. When I called the hotel, the person was rude. She said this happens all the time and don’t worry. I dont get it. If you dont pay attention to you credit card statement, these guys would have robbed you. I was surprised how the person reacted in such a way this happens all the time! Even after a week since my call, the charge wasnt released. I don’t understand why they are still holding it. The hotel is nice but watch for your credit card statement. You may ended up paying double.

Pros: The hotel is close to the museum area and the river bank. There is a bike station right across the street if you would like to travel around those areas by the Capitol Bike. Cons: One side of the hotel is a bit close to the high-way so some rooms can be noisy. Our room was on the 5th floor and my first night sleep was not very good due to noise from the high-way. The 2nd night was better probably because I was tired. A pair of those cheap earplugs would have made my sleep much better.

I have come to expect a lot more from Hyatt and Hyatt Place hotels. The rooms were very dirty and our air conditioner broke. The staff agreed to move us to another room and then forgot to do so, leaving us in a hot room for a long time and forcing me to follow up to remind them to move us. Mask policy was not enforced in the breakfast buffet line.

Enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt Place. They easily handled storing our bags as we arrived very early. Easy walk to the Mall. Very secure with room keycard needed for elevator rides to the guest areas. Definitely will consider on our next trip to DC.
