Fascinating place for a history buff to stay. Started out as a post office in the 1830s. Samuel Morse invented Morse code here and it also served as a Civil War hospital. The rooms have very high ceilings and museum-like decor. Just make sure you’re not in the basement because

We are locals and decided to stay downtown to celebrate my husband's belated birthday. This is by far one of the best Kimpton's in the area. We are IHG Ambassador members and received a lovely upgrade to the Monte Carlo rooms (highly recommend). Ashley went above and beyond to

This is a beautiful hotel in a fantastic location between Chinatown and the National Mall. The lobby and common areas are absolutely beautiful. The rooms itself are beautiful, and of a decent size, with outlets for electronics and other items on each side of the bed. The

Various pictures of the walls in our room. All beat up and scratched. Not what I would expect from a top hotel.
The front side of the headboard is beat up from furniture being moves around.
An unused door can be seen behind the monstrous headboard, It probably has freaked out previous guests so they tried to rip this off the wall. Its a matter of time before this falls on a guest
I understand this is a repurposed old government building but that doesn't;t mean the doors cannot provide privacy. From the hallway, you can hear everything going in the room

Do the rooms have a mini frig?
Yes, but it's filled with drinks and snacks, which are provided by the hotel for a fee. In order to fit my water bottle in overnight, I would take out some of their drinks, but put them back in in the morning because I was afraid of getting charged.

Do the rooms have a mini frig?
Yep, mine did, in the armoire. If yours does not, you can always request one to be sent to your room.
