The accommodation at Double Dutch is beautiful, modern, spacious, comfortable and very good value - and like no other 'hostel' I have ever stayed at. I would quite happily live in this place! It is in a stunningly scenic but somewhat remote part of the Banks peninsula but there is a lovely and fairly well stocked 'dairy' and petrol station...

Nice atmosphere, well equipped kitchen and plenty room for backpackers. Cleancleanclean. Helpfull Dutchies. Internet works well. Nice beach in surrounding (15 min walk). Very nice way to drive from Christchurch with excellent views. Ask for the penguin tour in Akiroa. Nice evening-experience with surprises.

Back again after some years and it is still an amazing place. Luxurious accommodation for backpacker prices! The place still looks brand new (amazing beds by the way) and the views and quiet are still amazing. The owners were again very welcoming and really make you feel at home. Okains Bay is very nice with a nice beach, a small...

This was the best "backpacker hostel" we met in NZ. Its a huge fairly new cottage style house immaculately appointed and CLEAN - everything worked/matched, the kitchen was amazing. Dont expect to walk or hitchhike here - its a retreat setting, quite isolated, literally on the edge of the Akaroa Peninsula. No local shops, a quite hilly drive in and...

of all the 20+ backpackers we stayed in NZ, this must surely rank as one the best places. with just 2 twin rooms and a dorm room in a pretty large cottage with stunning views in serene surroundings, this must be surely one of the wonderful places that remain in your memory for long. we had a peaceful stay here,...

Double Dutch is was the very best en-suite room we had on a 5 week trip. The room is huge, outlets everywhere, super large bathroom, touches of flowers in our room and absolutely spotlessly clean common rooms. The kitchen is gorgeous, wifi vouchers are provided, and their location is pure New Zealand. These folks have a beautiful location on a...

What a revelation. This is listed as a Backpackers place but it beats several Motels hands down, and far less expensive. Well appointed kitchen (multi-user), free eggs c/o owners. Good walks nearby, excellent Maori museum just up the road. Wouldn't like to drive there in bad weather, road is challenging. Diverse wildlife on tidal river.

I have enjoyed this peaceful and picturesque first class accommodation twice in the last 2 years, and when next in the South Island will do, as before, detour on my way to visit family in South Canterbury, with the sole purpose of relishing Wim and Tinker's unique hospitality. Sure, I'm Dutch, but it's top grade in every respect. What more...

We were fortunate enough to have two nights in the double/ensuite room at Double Dutch. It was absolutely delightful. The ambiance of the beautifully decorated hostel was so peaceful and welcoming that we felt very much at home. The kitchen was HUGE and very well equipped. Everything was spotless, and very comfortable. The morning after we arrived was Easter morning,...

This was the beginning of our backpacker trip on the South Island and now, looking back, we can say it was the quietest, most luxurious hostel of them all. And it is not because I am Dutch that I felt immediately at home with the Double Dutch hosts Willem and Tinker. They have built a very nice complex of three...
