The property is lovely, large, well maintained, clean, well lit and has all of the facilities available to make it a great place to go to. I believe the owner, Eric, has been there many. many years but please, do cheer up a little and make you visitors feel more welcome. We actually visited for a second time as we... More

The Grand Hotel was recommended to us whilst holidaying in Akaroa. Erik and his mates welcomed my Fiancé and myself into the pub. New Zealand hospitality and good "banter" ensued. As the drinks flowed the banter got better. We picked up several "gems" of information - priceless for any traveller to unknown shores. Thanks guys

We had dinner there twice recently. Friendly staff and locals. Large meals at a great price. Lovely salad with the meal. It's got to be good when a lot of the locals drink and dine there. We will be back next trip.

Our first in South Island. The waitress was extremely helpful, especially because I have allergies. She suggested wine that I had never tried before. And I was able to have my first pasta dish in I don't know how long. Would recommend if visiting here.

We dined here for an evening meal. The waitress was attentive and very good. We choose the roast pork which came with roast vege and also a side dish of seasonal vegetables too. My husband also has a bowl of seafood chowder which came with garlic bread. The pork was amazing. A good sized portion for sure. The decor is... More

well, I am rather unsure as to how to review this place, we only had breakfast there, so limited opportunity for feedback. The place itself too me back to being in a UK seaside hotel in the 1970's, it is really quite dated with regards to the décor, quite liked it myself, although I am sure some will find it... More

We visited Akaora over Easter, and like many, had a difficult time finding accommodation. We got lucky with an available "Weekend Escape" at the Grand Hotel, for two nights, which included breakfast and an evening happy hour drink (great deal $290NZD!). We arrived in the evening, and upon walking into the hotel, my heart dropped and I had a sense... More

Decided to go to Akaroa as one of the stops on our Motorbike ride over Easter. Was the last place left in Akaora so decided to book. I read trip advisor after the booking and thought this may have been a bit of a mistake. So after reading all the negative comments was surprised to find our rooms very clean... More

We went to this establishment for a meal as it was across the road from our accomodation. We were greeted by a scruffy man who went and got us a menu. There were oysters on the menu as a special. That sold it for me. Went into the public bar and got a seat after we ordered our meals. My... More

My wife and I decided to visit this cute tourist town on our tour of the South Island. We ended up booking a room at The Grand for two nights on a last minute decision. It was the only vacancy in town so we booked it without reading any reviews. Big mistake. The whole place needs to be renovated and... More
