Residential Mares is a typically run Portuguese family friendly hotel with aNorth African flavour with a modern make over.Situated right on the banks of the River Gilao The rooms comfortable and clean and the family are very helpful with the usual Portuguese friendliness .The attached restaurant which doubles up as a breakfast room is excellent with good service. The location is ideal for access to the ferry to the beach and to the Old town of Tavira with its many churches restaurants, bars and cafes
If we ever go to Tavira again we will stay here again. Really friendly and welcoming, comfortable in a traditional portuguese way. All the complimentary reviews we read are true. Nothing too much trouble.
This hotel is older, fairly dated, but I knew that going in. I got a room facing the river with a balcony. It was a convenient location, right near the ferry to the island, but also short walk to all restaurants, shops, and historical sites. Lovely park to sit and relax less than 5 minutes. The bed was comfortable, and nice bedding. The staff was all very pleasant. But, given that its older, and probably because of it's proximity to the water, I did notice what looked like mold in the corner of the room near the floor on the outside wall. The bathroom was ok, not great. All in all, for the price it was ok, about what I expected.
great place to stay, good and friendly staff.the hotel is next to the river, with a great outlook.have stayed there twice now,and will be staying again.well worth a visit.tavira is a great town to explore.
The hotel was just perfect. We arrived early so as our room wasn't ready, we could leave our bags with them and go out and explore. The hotel is situated right on the river front which made each morning an amazing start eating breakfast with that view. Myself and my partner had a double room which had a fridge and air conditioning (no tea and coffee facilities if you expect those). The bathroom had a bath and a wonderfully powerful shower over the bath. There was also a bidet and an in built hairdryer (I took my own so didn't use it). We were at the side of the building which had a side street and a view of the side the building over the road. Not an issue for us as the room was just a base and although there was traffic, the amazing double glazing kept all of that noise out (unless we had the french doors open). Our friends had a balcony room with a river view which was amazing and if you are spending more time in the hotel, I would highly recommend that room. The hotel is also perfectly situated for shops/restaurants. The train station is a lovely 20 minute stroll away which takes you past some lovely areas of Tavira. Just to the right of the hotel, there is a boat to take you over to an island, which in peak season has a host of bars and restaurants and lots of play areas for children. None of that seems open off peak but if the weather is good, don't let that put you off as there is the most glorious beach and well worth a visit. …
"The room was small but comfortable and very clean. The heater did not work the first night but issue was resolved next day."Read full review
"Definitely stay in a room that opens up on the river. We stayed in both an inner room and one with balcony onto the river. No comparison!"Read full review
