Had to have one night stay in Galway and chose this very pretty cottage. Stayed with my sister and had a lovely time there. Good spacious room with a double and a single bed with en suite. Caroline and her husband were friendly and welcoming, they even gave me a gift of a pot of Irish honey which is the best I have ever tasted. Would highly recommend this b and b. 🥰🥰🥰

Stayed here last Dec as had to go to pick up daughters items left in storage. Caroline and her husband were lovely friendly hosts and even gave me a jar of Irish honey…ohh it was good. Had a lovely ground floor room with double and single bed and en-suite which was plenty for my sister and myself. It’s in a beautiful area with lovely views and two beautiful digs that love the guests to play with them! Highly recommend indeed

Wonderful stay!

Caroline is a very nice hostess. She gave us tips that we would not have discovered on our own. The whole house is very lovingly decorated.

It's in the middle of nowhere and it's a great experience to see the Irish countryside like this. However, you are also in Galway in 20 minutes. Because the house is so small, compared to a hotel, we had nice conversations with the other guests.

We stayed at The Thatched Cottage four nights. When we arrived our impression was not so good, because it is not easy to find (despite Caroline's instructions), the room was not ready (check-in is at 6 pm - we did not read the terms and conditions carefully, so our fault, but still quite late to get a room...) and it was all a bit messy... However, as soon as we started talking with Caroline and her mother our opinion started changing: they are the most welcoming and warm people, very kind and available. Caroline's mother gave our daughter her grandson's toys to play with during our stay, which she very much appreciated (:D). We needed a bucket to hand-wash some clothes, but they allowed us to use their washing machine. One day we were setting off for some hiking and they provided us with muffins to recharge our batteries along the way. These are just some examples to show how friendly and caring they were. After travelling all day exploring the countryside, coming back to the B&B really felt like coming home.

We stayed in the double bedroom upstairs and had the shared bathroom which was located downstairs. The room was clean and simple. We were warmly greeted by Caroline and her friendly dog Harry.

The stay is about 15 minutes drive from Galway City.
The host was friendly and also gave us tips about what to see in the city and importantly where to park!

Highly recommended for a great value stay and friendly company.

I've lived in Ireland for 43 years and I've never felt more unwelcome in anyone's home, particularly when were paying for it. We were met at 1pm by the owner in a dressinggown, despite her expecting us. We were told that, after our booking direct by email for Euro 130 B&B, someone had used Booking dot com to book the same room but that we could have a family room for Euro 150 B&B if we still wanted to stay. We had been travelling that morning and knew all the hotels in/around Galway were already booked due to race meetings, my travelling companion is elderly and was very tired and I wanted to be able to drop him off at the accommodation and continue exploring, so we had little choice and hoped for the best.

When I returned from my explorations the owner was doing some work on the patio and didn't even look up to acknowledge me, despite my friendly greeting. Nor did the mother/mother-in-law (who happened to come out) so much as say hello or smile. There were three lovely dogs, which was really the nicest thing about the overnight stay. The full Irish breakfast, made by the owner's mother, was good. We didn't see the owner until we were checking out at 11.30am and again, she was still in a dressinggown.

There are photos of lounge and dining areas in the advertising but we were not invited to use them. You are basically paying for the room only, no living areas, and the atmossphere was definitely frosty if not downright hostile - it seems they want your money but they don't want you there at all. IMHO, the owners' lack of friendliness and any kind of 'welcoming' indicates they are not suited to running a B&B.

There is a good pub close by called Peggy's Bar, Lounge & Restaurant that does excellent food and had a friendly and lively atmosphere. We were delighted to be able to escape to it for an evening meal and some respite.

I would advise anyone thinking of staying at The Thatched Cottage to read the rather awful replies to any of the negative reviews on Booking (and to take notice of them - I wish we had seen them before booking!). Our experience was so bad that it has put us both off ever staying in a B&B again.

The photos of this place were great, and I changed around my entire week's itinerary because there was only one night available here (at a huge cost no less!) - but I decided to bite the bullet, as this is only a few times in a lifetime trip.

After I had made this booking, along with several other non-refundable bookings in Dublin and Cork, they email me and say that they double booked and need to cancel my booking. Are you kidding me???

Terrible business practice. I'll go out of my way to avoid this place in the future and would suggest that you do, too, unless you like getting jerked around.

If you don't have rooms available, don't book someone. It's that simple.

Booby as I have explained to you the bookings are managed by booking.com not by me and a mistake on their system accepted a double booking. I did offer to relocated you 5 miles from my house but you declined, of course you don't mention that in your review and I would also suggest that you do your homework on price as the b n b is well within the price range in claregalway. caroline

We stayed in the Thatch cottage with our 2 boys aged 12 and 10 years and had a lovely weekend, we came from Cork, We got a lovely welcome from Caroline who set up a nice table for us on arrival and allowed us order a pizza to the b and b. We were late arriving and appreciated this, We were going to a communion in the near by village and Caroline came and collected us after the communion which we really appreciated. The breakfast was lovely and the boys are still taking about the pancakes they got which they loved. Caroline's mother helped with the breakfast and was a very helpful warm lady also like Caroline. We got tea in our room provided and this was also a nice touch. We would recommend the thatch bed and breakfast as somewhere very nice to stay and relax.
