The food was overcooked, the rooms were dusty, the bathroom was dirty. Worst of all is the parking situation. Yes, you have parking in city centre, but the gate is so small I scraped my car. Also, the manager/owner is an alcoholic. I heard his drunken screams until midnight. STAY AWAY!!!

If you want a modern, super slick hotel then don't stay here but if you prefer character and charm, really helpful and welcoming staff and large comfortable rooms then book to stay at the Hotel Barbakan. Due to a long flight delay we didn't arrive til 10.30pm- the reception staff waited for us, fed and watered us and were very kind. Our room was large and the bed was really comfortable. We had a bath/shower in a roomy bathroom and it was really quiet as the hotel is located just outside the main square. The only downside was the terrible coffee at breakfast which drove us elsewhere i search of a decent cuppa. Sort that out and this is a pretty perfect charming, old-fashioned hotel in the right sense of word.

Hotel Barbakan is a time capsule. The vintage decor makes you feel like you're in authentic Slovakia - Levoča itself isn't at all touristy. The staff are patient with people who only speak English, and the manager (who speaks fantastic English herself) gave us plenty of suggestions of things to do in the surrounding area, and even looked up the bus times for us! Although dusty, the room light-filled and cosy, with a gorgeous view of the church on the hill. The breakfast was a standard continental breakfast, with filter coffee and tea etc. We ate in the restaurant twice and can recommend the pork medallions with Slovkian dumplings. Some of the other meat was very fatty, so I'm afraid we can't say the same for the venison! Overall, a great value stay with a warm welcome and some scrumptious food on the menu.

We came to the hotel quite late at evening, the receptionist great us with a worm welcome and a smile. She was amazingly nice, explaining everything and helping to plan tomorrow day of our honeymoon. The room is lovely, with a tub which is great...

We were on an extended trip visiting several Countries, we decided to spend a couple of nights in Levoca, we hadn't booked a hotel but did look some up before we arrived and this looked lovely, what a let down, we booked a more expensive room and to be honest it looked charming etc but that was it. The good thing was free parking behind the hotel. Also the restaurant food was very good. The room however left a lot to be desired, it was spacious, olde worlde. The TV did not work and only one socket out of 4 worked, probably why the tv did not work. These days you need the sockets to charge things. I tried to move the bedside table to see if there was a socket behind only to find it was screwed to the floor! on inspection both bedside tables and indeed the bed were all screwed to the floor, how bizarre. The worst thing though was the bathroom. If you want to have a bath with someone elses pubic hair still in place, and we are not talking the odd one or two, this person was moulting, this is the hotel for you. Being English I did not complain I thought maybe it would be cleaned while we were out, but no. Someone booked in next door and everytime they turned the hot water tap on our pipes started banging and rattling. Breakfast was ok but a bit restricted, only one glass of orange juice allowed and lots of notices saying food must not be taken by the guests. Looking at previous reviews for this Hotel I feel that maybe we were unlucky. It looks pretty but I think considering what we paid it was very poor. We both got the impression that they didn't care anymore.
