10/10 amaaaazing place, very clean, close to town. I stayed here for 2 nights, and I thought I booked a 6 bed dorm but instead I found myself in the Grand Budapest Hotel?! 6 beds all to myself which was So good (it was early January, so not many travellers around at this time). Never before had I so many choices of beds to sleep in! wow!
On the note of bedrooms, I liked the design a lot. Lots of character. Especially the lampshades which were repurposed shopping bags. Nice touch!
Lastly, I’d like to give a special shout-out to front desk girl Mia who was just the most helpful and loveliest front desk lady I have Ever dealt with (good luck with your maths🎉 ).

Thank you so much for your lovely review! We are very happy to hear you had such a nice experience in Looming! Also it really warms our hearts to hear you like the style of the hostel - we've put so much love and time into it (and keep doing so). We would love to see you come back to experience the summer vibes of our hostel, for example! Best!

Easy to find and check in. Staff is friendly and explains the rules quickly.
It’s ok place for 1 night and given the price of the competition, I guess it’s ok.
The place is in a bit of disarray some due to guests but also because it seems it was out together from donations of furniture and linens and some construction materials.
It’s an interesting Hostel, don’t get me wrong, just not used to this in previous hostel stays. Toilets were roomy and clean. Showers on the other hand very small, broken some and not so clean.
Yes I would stay again, especially for the price given all other options are more expensive.

The hostel was quite nice but there were no lockers for luggage in the dorms. It was about 10-15 minutes walk to downtown, which is okay but still not the best location. The good thing about this location was that it allowed them to provide parking spots. The staff was friendly but they took about a week to respond to my emails. Also, the hostel is on the 3rd floor with no elevator. You can order breakfast for 3€ but it's a bit poor in my opinion.

Thank you for your review! Just for the future notice: we have lockers, smaller in the rooms and bigger in the hallway. We are located just in the middle of everything, 15 min to the old town, 15 min to the other interesting areas in Tartu. Just in the heart really and in a fast growing hipster type of neighbourhood. 3 weeks for answering e-mail? vow, that is unbelievable, because we answer e-mails absolutely every day. 3th floor is correct, that just needs to be taken as little excercise :) Our breakfast is self-servise one and it includes: muesli, joghurt, milk, bread, butter, jam, coffe, tea.

First I want to mention a good tip while in Tartu. Mart, a young student with a startup, offers private tours around Tartu. Best tour I ever had for a very good price (more info at the right side of the board).
The hostel has everything: good kitchen, nice and clean bathrooms, enough toilets and a kickass balcony. The rooms are a different story. I booked a 8 bedroom dorm, but instead I got into a room with 10 other people. That was not what I paid for. And no respons from the reception either!!! Pillow was afwul and very noisy.

I turned up at Looming hostel on Christmas Eve evening around 6pm. The owners weren't working that day so left a key for me in a hiding place and the door code with a letter written for me welcoming me and telling me where everything was. It's on the third floor of a building also housing a skate rink (old skool), and secondhand furniture shop. Once in, it's a great atmosphere. As far as possible, they've used reclaimed furniture/materials to furbish the place, there's a hydroponic system in the lounge area growing plants - basil, coriander, chillies, mint, etc. (I had a fresh mint tea) with nitrogen from the waste of goldfish in a fish tank feeding the plants. The room was all single beds (so no person on the other bunk fidgeting and disturbing your sleep), with a big bookshelf, sofa, chairs, lamps, a hammock, a table and chairs - lots of space and like a real bedroom. Another great touch is the loos - a radio in the loo comes on at the same time as you switch the light on! You have to take your shoes off at the entry but they give you what look like hotel slippers to walk about in. The staff dropped in a 9pm to make sure I found everything and overall were hugely helpful (including booking me into a Christmas Day massage at a hotel - my treat to myself). Christmas Day morning we were given a herbal tea and fresh pastries (she baked them there). All fabulous. Towel rental is Euro .50 or 1 depending on size you want.

The interior of this hostel is amazing, with simple but nice decoration elements everywhere.
The rooms are comfortable, there's a cozy kitchen, large balcony, and living room with even hammocks :)
I wish I had stayed longer!

Great accommodation, comfortable beds, free lockers, good kitchen facilities (lots of fridge space), friendly and well-informed staff, comfortable communal area. Bonus points for eco-friendliness. The weather was horrible but this was a nice place to hang out!

Looming Hostel is a great place to stay in Tartu. Only one small inconvenience is its location - its about 15 minutes from the city centre. But actually it´s a pleasant walk through Tartu residential neighbourhoods so it´s not a huge problem. Otherwise it´s a lovely, very clean and friendly place. Their common area is very nicely furnished with several sofas, tables etc plus there is a great choice of books to read on the shelf.
There´s a fridge and cooking facilities. The staff is very friendly and helpful. On the negative side, at the moment the shower room is located in the basement of the building, while the hostel part is on the 3rd floor -but the new shower room is being built and the present shower room is OK.
Stayed in 4-bed dorm room. The room was spacious enough to accommodate 4 persons. The bed is usual single-bed. There was slightly chill in the room in October, but luckily the staff provided me with additional blanket.
There is a rooftop terrace overlooking Tartu neighbourhoods - perfect place to enjoy shiny morning (believe it´s even better in summer - you could sunbath there) with cup of tea/coffee.
Liked the place and would definitely come back again.

I can’t put a number grade to the experience because I really love the physical space but also this hostel has given me the WORST experience of all time.
They don’t let you know or ask your permission to come to your physical space, if you take a private room.
They have plants in the room so to take cate of them, they don’t let you know they are coming nor ask is it ok to come, they just take their spare key and come into your personal space as they need. You could be showering, you could be butt naked in the middle of the room, you could be being intimate you could be sleeping, they just come in. They came in when I was sleeping, as they had not given information beforehand that they’d need to do it, I couldn’t through sleep even understand the knocking was for me as there is a room right next door, I thought “nobody has business coming here, must be for next door” and they just came in. When I confronted them about it, their excuse was “that they didn’t know I was there”, meaning they normally just snoop around your private space without you knowing, when you’re out. So, if you book a private room, know it’s not private. I was there for 2 years for school sessions and recently found that out and now I’m scarred for the indefinite time, don’t know how to come out of 2 years of personal space being violated. If you have a trauma background, I suggest keeping away from this place.
It’s a shame cause the physical environment is really pretty, the mission of the place is wonderful - all types of eco living is practiced there. Still, it does not accept violating peoples privacy so, make your choices wisely. They could have let know when checking in, they could ask beforehand if it’s ok to come (one of them did and I watered the plants and they were all fine) but literally the next day some person just barged into my private space. Horrible feeling. They could leave instructions on how to water the plants and let know upon check in that this duty comes with the room or they could choose their options and have someone else do it - out of all the good or semigood options, they use the only nit good one - just coming into your space without telling you and that is emotional, physical, mental abuse.
I was a devoted fan of this place and now - never again staying there!!!!
If you’ve stayed in their private rooms, chances are, your private space has been continuously violated too.
🤮
