This hotel seems to be made up from several buildings put together. From the front, it looks like a narrow townhouse yet, once inside, you may find yourself walking a full block to your room. That doesn't mean it isn't great. The rooms are each different, with old, wooden furniture and large beds with lovely, fluffy linens. The staff are super friendly, and the hotel is on the main street of old town, smack in the middle of everything (yet managing to be super quiet once inside). My only peeve is that, as with many other places in Tallinn, there are few to no options for vegans on the breakfast menu, and it forces us to go out for breakfast whenever we stay there. I hope that this is something they will change in the future, and even advertise, as they it will help with guests. It's a lovely hotel for a romantic weekend getaway. We will certainly keep coming every winter; it'd be nice to be able to stay in, it's very cozy!…
A charming collection of old buildings that have been renovated to offer all the latest amenities. The manager was super friendly and helpful, the property was in excellent condition, our room was spacious, spotless and super comfortable. The restaurant is excellent too.
When we travel we try to find quirky places instead of standard chain hotels when possible and CRU was a great choice. The hotel is located in a strict city centre with a walking distance to all the attractions and is suited on a main street, which obviously might lead to experience some of the liveliness from outside. We actually had a room with windows directly to the street and it was not that bad at all. The room that we had was really spacious with classic decor and private sauna in a bathroom. What's not to like! Everyone was friendly and very helpful (my coat button emergency was averted). I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone that likes to feel a bit like in the olden days but with all the luxuries of the modern world
The hotel is a complete mixed bag - some aspects are excellent, some are not. With a few tweaks, it could be a 5 star review. Positives: - Location. This could not be any better. Right near the Viru gate, so a couple of minutes to Town Hall Square, a couple of minutes to great transport and a couple of minutes from the Rotermann Quarter. - Transport links - half an hour on tram 4 from the airport. Perfect. - Breakfast - this was included in our room rate and was great. Cereal, cooked breakfast (we didn’t try this), fresh fruit, bread/toast, ham/salmon/cheese, pastries - a really good choice, and replenished often. - Room - we had the suite with the bath, and the room size was fantastic. It was well- equipped with bottled water every day, toiletries, slippers and a robe. Just the usual issues of never enough coat hangers and tiny towels! A fan was also provided in the room. There was a fridge, but it did not keep things particularly cold as the milk we bought for our hot drinks went off. Even better if: - cleanliness - this was an issue. On arrival there was a cobweb with dead insects above the mirror above the bed, and the small window had cobwebs. There was also a clothing tag under the bed (I didn’t search, you could just see it as you approached), which stayed there all week. When we used cups they were not washed until 2 days later, and this happened the couple of times we used them. When I went to bed there was a sharp lump - it turned out the previous guest had left toy cars under the mattress topper, and these had not been found between guests. I am therefore assuming the bed was not checked properly, and the mattress topper was not cleaned. I mentioned the card to someone, but they did not seem bothered. - Smell - this was not evident on arrival, but was there the second day. We mentioned it and was told it would be sorted, and it was - if you call masking it with some kind of spray (which didn’t do the job) sorting it. The smell was there the next day too, but the following day it was on the floor below as we could smell it as we went up the stairs. - Lack of information- there was no information in the room on the area or things to see. This would have been really helpful. - Helpfulness - we did not find staff particularly friendly other than the male cook - he was always smiley and welcoming. When we checked in the female member of staff saw us struggling with our cases, but there was no offer of help which would have been really welcomed. Point to note: we knew there was no lift, but be aware how steep the stairs are - they are very steep, especially with cases!…
The hotel is located in the Old Town, close to the majority of the tourist sights. Shops, restaurants and bars were also close by. The room was large, comfortable and clean. The bed was as comfortable a bed as I've experienced. No noise from the street was audible from our room. Staff friendly and allowed us to check in early. Breakfast was awesome. An incredible choice of food and drink at the buffet. Quality was excellent. There's something for everyone... Bacon, eggs, cereals, fish, pickles, vegetables, fruits, cheese, ham, yoghurt etc. Dairy free milk available. Plus... Jaffa cakes. Amazing. I could've spent hours there. The hotel is about 5-10 minutes walk from the tram stop connecting to the airport (Tram line 4). I doubt I've had a cheaper and easier airport to hotel experience. Highly recommended. …
Nice location and beautiful old hotel..Anyway, noise from the local bars and techno party next door continued until 5am, so not able to sleep at all, not with ear plugs. Small details also would need more attention: only one tiny shampoo in a suite for 2 people, no other toiletteries, many curtains broken, just one coffee capsule per person, breakfast very basic etc etc. So not up to the standard. Refund fortunately promised afterwards.
Chose to stay here for one night as looked different to the bland chain hotels. Easy to find from where taxi drops off at entrance to old town and in a great spot just off main square. I had a big room on top floor, not much of a view but at least a few windows for light. The bed was very soft but still very comfortable and there was a seating area as well as a big walk in shower. Staff very helpful and was able to check in a bit earlier which was nice. As my room was at the back I didn't hear too much noise in the night either. Breakfast was in the restaurant downstairs and was the usual buffet style with bread, pastries, meats and fruit etc. My only slight issue was the cleaning lady who appeared to be cleaning in area behind the buffet area while people were eating and she also helped herself to some food without washing her hands. Maybe cleaning should have been done after breakfast hours in that area. Overall though a very nice small hotel in great location.…
My wife and I visited Tallinn just before Christmas 2021. We were originally heading to Austria but COVID regulations/lockdowns put paid to that. Consequently, this was very much a last minute holiday but, notwithstanding, we had a really enjoyable time and the cost of less than 400 euros for three nights was an absolute bargain. We chose CRU because of its location - very central to all the main sites. Our room overlooked a fairly busy shopping street but we weren't disturbed at all by outside noise (granted, it was winter and we were still in the depths of COVID). We managed to book the suite with a private sauna. The latter wasn't huge but had ample space for two to relax and re-energise after sightseeing and braving the Baltic weather (minus -3 which, to the locals, was positively tropical). The room was very pleasant and characterful. Wifi was excellent and the service very obliging - we had a late flight back and the manager very kindly agreed to let us stay in the room until late afternoon. Breakfast was fine with a decent selection with hot and cold food. On the ground floor of the building is an excellent restaurant which is well worth patronising particularly if the weather deteriorates. I can thoroughly recommend the elk! If you want to visit Tallinn - a really interesting place with a fascinating history - you should definitely consider staying here.…
You can't get a better location than this hotel right in the old town. A couple of hundred metres from the point where the taxi drops you off. Lots of character, friendly staff, a reasonable choice most days at breakfast. I do have to say it is quite noisy with dumpsters, apparently, being dragged around from very early (4.30) but the noise wasn't coming from the hotel so I guess you will have the same problem in most of the old town. We took a double room. I think we would upgrade to a suite if we visited again.
Hotel CRU is a fabulous boutique hotel in a historical building smack in the middle of Old Town Tallinn. We ate dinner in the restaurant which was fabulous. Excellent service in hotel and restaurant. Breakfast was substantial. We stayed in one of the two suites. It was a gigantic room with a gigantic bed. Extra large shower. Incredible stay. Very quiet at night.
