Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A perfect location with a wonderful hostess, Lesa. We stayed two nights in an upstairs apartment, a single room on the old town. The taxi bringing us pointed to our accommodation so we had to walk about 60 meters as he could not get any closer. Personally shown how to get in and out and given clear instructions in such clear English, we have been very happy here. We have a small kitchen, a doorma window balcony and a bedroom with TV and a private bathroom. All in good and very clean order. It was so quiet even with the iron man competition on this weekend.

We love the location and surroundings of this lodge. It is tucked behind an alley so we had a little problem looking for it on arrival. As soon as we got settled in, all was good. The owner Jaan is nice and welcoming. Room is attic style with kitchen and dining on the lower floor. Beds are on the attic via stairs with minimum space but good enough to sleep. It isn’t suitable for folks who has difficulty with stairs. The busy streets are just around the corner filled with plenty of eateries. Town Hall Square is also nearby. A good base to get around.

A lovely room over two floors with great wi-fi. Great host who was able to store my luggage on the last day to allow for further exploration of Tallinn. Well equipped apartment. Fabulous location in Masters Courtyard where there is a host of great little shops. Tallinn was a great place to visit and this was a perfect base.

Located in a courtyard that is locked at 11pm (you are given a key) so privacy is no issue and very quiet at night. 1 minute walk to the town square so there is no shortage of dining options around. Staff are great, they stayed back after opening hours for us as our flight didn’t get in until late. The accommodation itself is quaint but beautiful and with everything you need.

After I had arrived Tallinn by ferry from Helsinki, I walked to the guesthouse. The cobblestone was too much for my luggage, unfortunately. The owner waited for me in his shop and showed me my room. Very nice concept and it gave me a warm welcome the moment I entered. Very clean and well equipped. The location couldn't be any better in Tallinn and the price was very reasonable price. Highly recommend!

I pre- reserved one room and with 12 days in advance I have to cancel it, and explain it. Owner of bad faith, in a health matter, doubting the guest. não recomendo, não é de confiança e não fico em locais em que duvidam de clientes

Great location, close to everything. The owner Jaan is very friendly and helpful. Rooms have a small kitchen and beds are on the upper floor. Rooms have no windows , there is only a skylight that opens in the roofand. For me the bed was a little bit uncomfortable. There is a supermarket a few blocks away where you can get food and other items if you want to eat in. But for what I paid, worth staying at Villa Hortensia.

The location is fantastic, although taxi drivers and local businesses have no idea that this 'hotel' exists. Unfortunately though, the service was terrible. If you arrive after 5 PM, the reception is closed. They sometimes make arrangements with the coffee shop next door, but when I arrived yesterday, we were just asked to phone. Two hours later, as I was about to give up and book another hotel, the owner arrived, ranting and raving about being woken up. "You can sleep on the airplane," but I was woken up. You are better off with the Three Crown Plaza next door, that does have a kind reception for about the same price.

Response from Fred-Ander, Owner at Villa Hortensia
Responded 15 Jul 2016
This person booked the room through booking.com. There is written clearly, that if you'll arrive after 5:00p.m.,you have to contact with the property and to tell your expected time of arrival. We have not 24h reception for our 6 rooms. I have built all this property with all our galleries and shops myself and I cannot work 24h per day. Several people book the room but they will never come. I have picked up my clients with my own car from the airport or waited until midnight, but I have to know the arrival time as I'm not living in the city centre and I also want to plan my personal time and life. If the people cannot read text in english written on the booking.com page, they must be happy that I came back at 00.45. This woman didn't answer to my extra e-mail, I didn't know anything about her arrival and ofcourse I went home to work in my garden. She also didn't pay for the chocolates in our cafe, which does not belong to Villa Hortensia/Masters' Courtyard. Maybe this is normal in Los Angeles, but not in Tallinn.

I've spent here just one night but the place made me want to came back. At first, location can't be better! Medieval center+artistic atmosphere of the yard+a really old building with modern facilities inside - a good combination! Since I have seen what I book I wasn't surprised by the stairs and had no problem with climbing. This time of year one can enjoy sunlight and fresh air through the roof window. The room itself was warm and comfy, very clean and cosy. The only thing that made me give the place four stars - you can hear every breath of your neighbor (at least in my room and in the next room, I guess). If you'll have noisy neighbors - it can become a problem.

We arrived and the place was locked-- chatted with someone in the cafe and they said they would call someone-- the owner was in Canada but his son would come in 15 minutes . . . 30 minutes later he arrived. It was advertised to have a balcony which it did but was just a very small area overlooking the alley where workers from the cafe came on break and chain smoked. Went to pay and the assistant charged us twice what we owed by accident. The wifi did not work most of the 3 days we were there . . . no one ever came and cleaned the entire visit . . . overall disappointed for the price we paid. It was described as something much different than what we got.
