Rixwell Viru Square Hotel is located in Tallinn's Old Town. The hotel building dates back to the 1950s. The building, completely rebuilt for the hotel's needs, boasts 82 rooms, a lobby bar, a restaurant, a bar, conference rooms, a Turkish bath, a Finnish sauna, and car parking. Tallinn's famous St. Olaf's Church and Toompea Castle are just a few minutes away from the hotel. The hotel is named in honor of Viru Square, which separates Tallinn's Old Town from the modern Viru Business Center constructed in 2002, creating a melodic harmony of architecture and communication between the ancient and the modern.

Fantastic place to stay. Getting up early to witness the sunrise was a breeze because the viewpoint is within walking distance from the hotel, which is great news for a photographer like myself. Plenty of nearby dining options. The entire stay was fantastic.

The hotel rooms were so small that it was almost impossible to even open a suitcase. The beds were just as small and bed sheets were coming off (ew). They urgently need to renovate. The „breakfast“ is nothing even close to what you could call a decent breakfast: it’s more like prison breakfast. You need stand in line for a coffee at the coffee machine for at least 10min: the staff was rude and didn‘t even bother to agree to the fact that they might need to invest into a new machine. Don‘t book this place 👎🏻

This popular hotel was a good value stay for our family of four, for two nights. I’m happy we chose this over more expensive options. But if you are lookin for luxury, keep looking. I called ahead to confirm that the superior room would fit us all, and yes: Upon arrival the sofa bed had been made for our children. And there was plenty of space left for our luggage and walking about. Also the bathroom was spacious. Good shower! Another reviewer had posted a bed bugs warning, with photos of rash on his arms. I have seen bed bug bites before, and they looked more like insect bites. To me that rash on the review photo looks more like an allergic reaction. Anyhow I got worried, and upon arrival inspected all furniture and walls: No signs of bed bugs. We didn’t get any skin reactions from sleeping here, and at breakfast I couldn’t spot any insect bites or rash on other guests' arms. The main beds and sofa bed were ok if not great. Pillows quite big and a bit hard - comfortable for sleeping on your side. The overall cleanliness of the room was passable, but far from perfect. Housekeeping did not have a vacuum cleaner with them, so our bread crums stayed on the carpeted floor. Upon arrival the room was better cleaned, but there was still some minor trash hiding under one bed side table, and the carpeted floor did not feel completely clean. We found four pairs of new bath shoes in the room, and we felt like wearing them at all times. The hotel has an attractive location in the beautiful old city. Nearby areas were populated by tourist crowds, restaurants and various tourist attractions. Within a couple of blocks we found also a Prisma grocery store. And Viru square is a major shopping centre within a few minutes walk (as of July 2022, shopping & restaurant prices were comparable to Helsinki). The official address of the hotel, Viru 11, is on a walking street. But at that address there was only a small locked door with the hotel name and a map instructing entrance from the opposite side of the block. The real entrance is from the "Müürivahe" side street, which provides an opening to a back yard parking area and the hotel main entrance. The parking area was not gated, but it was monitored by the reception staff from a security camera. Most hotel room windows face either the inner yard or towards the wall of the next building, so rooms don’t provide much of a view really. Our room was on the street end of the hotel, but as we slept with closed windows it was quiet, even on Friday night. If we had left the windows open, we would have heard crowd chatter from the Viru street. During daytime we kept the window open and background noise was neglible - not a problem. The fridge was warm when we arrived - it turned out that the fridge stays on only when the room key card is kept in the room key card holder! We had two key cards, so we had to leave one of them in the room to keep the fridge on. Hotel breakfast was an ok buffet, although at busy times it was so crowded that we had a hard time finding a seat. There was a constant line of several people waiting for the coffee machine. Reception service was prompt and very nice. There was only one small elevator in the hotel, so at busy times we just took the stairs.

Problem with check-in. Wanted to charge us about 150 euro for one night, Problem solved next morning, Super hot in the corridor and in the room. No AC and we slept with the windows wide open. Good that we stayed high up. Beds were low, too soft and narrower than usual single beds. Would have liked a small fan because it was so hot in July. Good thing that we at least had a fridge. Breakfast was disappointing, had expected it to be more up to date and more variety. Went on a trip and stayted at another hotel. Was then supposed to stay here the last night, but booked something else. The main feature of this hotel is the very central location.

We paid double price for a room with sauna. As result sauna did not work properly, it shut down all electricity at the room every 30 minutes, so we could mot even try it. The “best” thing was the fact that it was not the first time and hotel stuff knew that. It means they lie to you when promise a sauna. Disappointed.

Stayed with a friend of mine for 2 nights as an alternative to our pre-booked hostel as the hostel staff didn't accept to check us in early. Rixwell Veru staff were very helpful and they provided our room in a few minutes a couple of hours before the formal check-in time. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom has a bidet/Shattafa which was the best part of the stay. Internet is superfast. Location is excellent in the heart of the old town. We tried the cafe/restaurant in the ground floor and it was good. The only drawback is that the room was not cleaned during our 2-nights stay, but this is somehow understood in a budget/medium range hotel like this. Highly recommended and I will definitely stay here again

The hotel is specially uncomfortable, bad beds and terrible pillows. Extremely small bed and room. Not very clean either. Bad breakfast. In addition, we need to leave 3 days before expected for personal reason and they denied any reimbursement of the pending days. In summary, pick other hotel.

Bargain price of less than £20 a night, walked past it twice because I couldn't believe that was my hotel, it looked too fancy! Be aware that the name on the hotel is different from the one on the booking. Perfect location, right at Viru Gate between the old town and the modern shopping malls etc, close to everything, just round the corner from the tram stop to the airport. Check-in was quick and easy, room was warm (you can control it yourself), lots of plug sockets, comfy bed, modern bathroom, minibar on the large side and strangely made no noise, didn't hear any outside noise either, lovely quiet stay. Pity the view out the window is of a brick wall but it means privacy isn't an issue so you can have your curtains open all the time, there's also a Do Not Disturb sign so you can be left in peace (if you need more toilet rolls you can restock from the bathroom opposite the breakfast room on the ground floor!). I was able to leave my luggage for free on the last day in a secure room behind reception, no issues. Really good stay, didn't try the breakfast but maybe will next time, I'll definitely be back! Highly recommended.

First night was ok but on the 2nd night sleep was impossible due to door banging, v loud conversations etc until after 1am. Reception agreed to change my room but offered me one on the same floor... Difficult to find as no signs anywhere, even on the outside. Bathroom could also be cleaner/ mould removed.

I chose this hotel for the location. It's right at the center of town. The room was quiet small and it looked clean. But the biggest surprise were the red spots that I had all over my body in the morning. BED BUGS!!! And I wouldn't be surprised if they know about it. I showed the red spots from the bites to the receptionist when I checked out and asked the manager, that was not at the hotel, to contact me. After a few days I send an email. No one contacted me. I wanted them to know that they have a problem and to make sure that they take care of it. Unfortunately the couldn't care less.
