Meriton Old Town Garden Hotel is a very well located hotel right in Tallinn old town, close to everything you wanna see. It is a beautiful stylish old building, super clean and well maintained. Everything there will make you wonder how the old times looked like. It is a time-travel in every corner and detail.

The rooms in 4th and 5th floors are accessible by staircases only. One thing you have to have in mind in case you are hauling a big and heavy luggage.

The Deluxe Room I stayed in (5th floor) is spacious but I have to highlight some details that really need to be improved:

A) Lack of windows: The room only had a tiny window facing nowhere. The lightning of the room is not good enough and because the window has a little effect, the room is kind of dark all day long. It looks like it is an attic room and somehow the lightning has to be improved in order to offset the lack of windows.

B) Very poor quality air conditioning: Hot days in Tallinn and it looked like we had no air conditioning system working, very, very poor. I had to request a fan from reception (they promptly provided me one).

C) No response from booking@meritonhotels.com 2 days prior to the online reservation: I had some questions never replied by the booking personnel up till now 12 aug 2020,

D) Plastic curtain in shower: For God's sake.....please just remove it!

Dear Alexander, Thank you for taking the time to write this very detailed and well informing feedback! I am sure it makes many potential guests to feel they want to visit our hotel too to be able to feel the historic atmosphere of the hotel. I am happy that you managed to have good time at our hotel and in Tallinn. Great to hear that you noticed the cleanliness and the good condition of the hotel. Just for the information that we have enough rooms on other floors (even on street level) with easy access and there is no need to climb the stairs with heavy luggage. Only all the Deluxe rooms are located on the 5th floor so there is no other way to reach the rooms then by stairs. As you booked your room on the last minute unfortunately we did not have any other Deluxe rooms to give you. I agree that the room you stayed in has only a little of daylight. Actually we just added a table lamp there not long time ago to make the room brighter. In my opinion it makes a big difference already. In our hotel there is only general ventilation so with very hot days I agree that the rooms can be a bit stuffy. Apologies if you did not receive a fast answer from us to your e-mail. Despite few things which could be improved I hope that you will stay in our hotel also in the future. Welcome back! Sincerely yours, General Manager

Hotel had a character, and so did the room. We stayed in deluxe room (5th floor), into the price was included parking (5 min from hotel on foot) and breakfast. Room was spacious, even with extra bed for kid. Room was facing the Pikk street, no noise disturbed our sleep (we were traveling on weekday). Bed was comfy, loved that I had two sets of pillows to choose from (big and flat one). I slept like a rock, but I did walk around the old town all day. The location of the hotel is superb, it's the reason we chose this one, and it didn't dissapoint. Everything was very clean, stuff friendly.

This hotel is very well located in an ancient building in the heart of Tallinn old town. They served a good buffet breakfast, albeit the breakfast room is small especially if the hotel were fully booked. We had a superior room but I don't really know what made it superior. The bathroom was cramped and oddly organised. The same square metres could have been utilised in a more practical way by switching the places between the shower and the toilet seat. Now taking a shower meant you flooded the entire bathroom since the shower is in front of the sink with only a shower curtain separating them.

They had piped music in the corridor that was clearly audible in the room through the door. The music was sics off for the night, though. I'd rather switch it off entirely, it was more a nuisance than pleasant.

On a mid stay day the chambermaid knocked on the door and opened it early in the morning to check whether the room could be tidied up. We were still sound asleep, so waking up wasn't really appreciated. Then, when we were not in the room for the most of the day, the room wasn't made up by the time we came back in the afternoon. So housekeeping could perhaps be organised better. Of course we could have hung the do not disturb sign on the door but we did not really expect anyone to barch into the room that early.

All in all an OK and rather economical hotel, so a good stay. Could stay again, too.

Dear zam, Thank you a lot for your very detailed review and for choosing our hotel! Great that you liked especially the hotel location in the heart of Tallinn Old Town. It is true that our breakfast room is quite small but guests can also sit in the bar area and during the summer season also outside. It seems that you stayed in one of the smaller size Superior rooms. Mainly the difference compared to Standard rooms is the bigger size, complimentary coffee capsules, slippers and few extra bathroom amenities. Apologies if you did not like the music in the hallways and if housekeeping staff came to your room too early. I hope you will give us a new opportunity in the near future and that we can then surprise you more. Welcome again! Sincerely yours, General Manager

We stayed for two nights in the small room with a bunk bed. Overall we had a very pleasant stay.
The room was small as expected but clean and well equipped. The room didn't have any place to put for example bags on and there would've been room for a small table or chair in my opinion but we did know the room was scarcely furnished so that's a small detail. At least you could hang stuff on hooks. The bed was comfortable. A downside with the room was that the walls were a bit thin so if someone walked by our room or talked a little louder than usual you heard it pretty well. But mostly we did sleep undisturbed. Another downside was that the room was quite humid after showering (and even many hours afterwards) and towels took a long time to dry so I don't think the ventilation is that great, but that's the case with most hotels housed in older buildings.
Breakfast was lovely! A lot more options than I expected. Multiple types of bread, cheese and cold cuts. Bacon, eggs (cooked and scrambled), porridge, pancakes, cake, speciality coffees as well as tea and juice. Also croissants, baguette and salty pastries and more! All in all excellent!
Some have complained about rude unhelpful staff but we experienced none of that during our stay. Check in and check out went seamlessly and whether we talked to reception personnel, cleaners or staff working at the breakfast, they were all friendly and helpful!
Location and price was excellent. It's a few minutes walk to the main square in the old town of Tallinn, near by to restaurants and cafés as well. The price for our stay was 60€ per night for two including breakfast and honestly it's the best price I've ever gotten in any European country for a hotel that has such a good location, a reasonably nice standard and great breakfast. It's hard to beat!

This time was my fourth stay in this hotel. The location is excellent ! Every time I have stayed in different room and every time I'm amazed how everyone of them have been able to surprise me once again -in a positiv way. This time I and my husband had room 106, own access was straight to the inner court. We didn't have a nice view, but it we had incredibly peaceful room with excellent bed and though it was hot outside, the room was cool. Our recommendation to this room!
Only one little thing would make ( bath) room better- something to dry the bathroom's floor after the shower, a towel maybe?

Worst experience I've ever had. I'm far from fussy, but this room was laughable. I booked the 'superior' room 402 for a trip with my mum. The lift only went to the 3rd floor and then we had to climb a really old wooden staircase and continue along a corridor that you couldn't stand up in to continue to climb back down another flight of stairs through a door you had to duck down to enter. What we were greeted with was like a scene from an Elizabethan shipwreck! Beams and drapage everywhere and 2 tiny windows that were so high up you couldn't see out of. The bathroom was essentially a cupboard and bearing in mind, I'm only 5"2 there was no way I could have showered standing up. The heat was unbearable so with this, we climbed all the way back down to ask if there was an alternative room. The receptionist was really unhelpful and said that maybe we could change rooms at 10/11am in the morning. As it was already gone midnight, we had no choice but to crawl back up into the rafters and experience the worst nights sleep ever. First thing in the morning, we went to speak to another extremely bored and disinterested member of staff who said that she 'may' have a room at 2pm. With this, we attempted to get a refund but were told we would have to wait 3/4 days for any correspondence. We booked another room in a different hotel and left immediately. I'm shocked that this crawl space is sold as a superior! There were tea making facilities but no milk and the tv didn't work. When we handed the keys in upon leaving, the receptionist just shrugged. Unbelievable!

Dear Guests, Thank you for your detailed feedback! Obviously you did not really understand into which kind of hotel you made the room reservation. We have a hotel in a historical building dating back to the 14th century. If you look at the room photos of different room types on online channels you will see that the rooms in our hotel are very different. Also when making the reservation to a Superior room you will see different room photos and also the one in which you stayed. I am sorry if you did not read the hotel information in detail before making the reservation. Otherwise you would have noticed the information about the fact that the elevator only runs until the 3rd floor and to reach the higher floors you need to climb the stairs. It seems that you are not a big fan of history at all and that is why you also did not like the historical wooden beams in the room. As you checked into the hotel around midnight and all of the other Superior rooms were occupied by that time then that is why the receptionist offered you to come back next morning to change the room for you. Why you think she was unhelpful I do not understand!? She just could not offer you any other options on that moment. This is also normal that refunds take time especially if you have already paid the accommodation to an agent. I hope that by now you have received a full refund for the nights you did not stay at the hotel. I understand that you are used to drink tea with milk in your home country but it does not mean that the milk is being offered in every country where you travel to automatically. If you would have asked milk we would have of course given it to you. It just seems to me that when writing this feedback you tried to find every small thing where you could say something negative about it. I hope that in the future you will pay more attention to details before making a hotel reservation and will choose a hotel based on your expectations and needs. Sincerely yours, General Manager

This was our 4th time at this hotel and we were so happy to visit again. The staff is amazing, very welcoming and pleasant. Everything goes smoothly: checking in, requests, breakfast, cleaning, taxi service, checkin out. Its a nice cozy hotel at the hearth of Old Town, very good location. Small supermarket Rimi is only 3min walk away.

We will come again here very soon! :)

If you have any food restrictions or want an easy access room, just contact them and they will arrange it. :)

Very good hotel. The accommodation is convenient for tourists who do not want to spend extra money on public transport, since the main attractions are nearby, and the rest are not far to go. Nearby there are wonderful restaurants and a park. The room was good, corresponds to the booked and comfortable enough. Breakfast is good, although not a large selection of buffets, but you definitely won't go hungry.

Hotel was clean and affordable, and situated very well in the Old Town. The building is an old one and very interesting with it's details - however this is why it has tall and narrow staircases and every room is not attainable with an elevator. So make sure to ask for a room in the 1-3th floor, if you don't want to/cannot climb them. Staff is extremely nice and the service is very good. Breakfast was basic, nothing to complain and the food at the hotel restaurant was very good. We had a standard room at the 4th floor. The shower's flow was a bit weak and so was the air conditioning, and the sleeping circumstances could have been better. However if you are looking for a nice and affordable place to stay, this hotel is for you!

This is a great hotel to stay , old and atmospheric, perfect location in the old town, minutes walk from restaurants , bars, cafes and of course the Christmas market. We had 2 single rooms, with a connecting door which was perfect with a sofa as well as a bed, mini fridge, lovely clean bathrooms, but take your own toiletries. It was lovely and warm, heating was very welcome and the buffet breakfast was huge, with a lot of choice . Mark, at reception gave us a map and lots of tips on where to go as we love galleries and museum. Just a short 20 minutes drive from the airport but you could take the train , as the station very near too
