Hermannuse Maja has amazing location in the heart of Haapsalu. Everything is just a walking distance away. Rooms are clean and cozy, maybe just a little bit outdated. Free parking in the yard. Staff is very friendly. Notice that there are 2 nightclubs (Apteek and Aed) right next to the building, who are playing loud music until 03 AM in the weekends.
Due to changes in my travel plans, I had to alter my reservation several times. My requests were always answered immediately and with friendly encouragement. Although I was late in arrival and the owner had to leave a colleague waiting to let me in for hours, everyone was helpful and gracious. The accommodations were far above my expectation, with modern and seemingly new furnishings, a well-appointed bathroom with a heated floor. It was already too cold to use them, but there are several lovely seating areas in the backyard, with nice plantings and view of the city's old stone wall. The hotel is above a lively cafe with good food and a very friendly casual atmosphere. All of the young staff were helpful as impromptu concierages, providing travel and tourist information. Free wi-fi is found throughout Estonia and Hermannuse Maja is no exception.…
Loved it. Interesting hamburger, full and tasty. Others had different dishes. Everyone was happy. Came in two nights. The restaurant has a clear and visible menu. Went to other restaurants in Haapsalu. To complicated for two families with kids who like things simple.
I stayed here in May with my husband on our way to Hiiumaa island, and we returned in July with our teenage daughters, this time travelling to Saaremaa island. For us, Hermannuse Maja and Haapsalu were one-night stop-overs on the way. Hermannuse Maja is a nice little inn. We had one double room on our first visit and another double room + twin room on the second stay. (There are only 3 rooms altogether, so we have tried them all!). One of the double rooms has a shower and a small bathtub, the other one only has a shower. Other differences are minimal, so you should consider whether you want to pay a little extra for the bath. Hotel location is very good, right next to Haapsalu Castle and restaurants. Rooms are simple but comfortable, and service is friendly. Breakfast is very nice too - in addition to yogurt, bread, juice, etc., you can order anything you like from their breakfast menu - without extra charge. I would have given this place 4 stars, if room prices were a little lower. I think Hermannuse Maja is very nice but more expensive than other, similar places in Haapsalu, not to mention elsewhere in Estonia.…
I chose to stay at this hotel because I was attending a concert at Haapsalu Castle, which is literally right out the door and that was perfect. I arrived on a Saturday to be told that there was a street party happening all night until midnight, so I thought it would be good fun to go and walk around all the venders and taste some great food. Little did I know that there was going to be a disco going on right outside my room until close to 4am Sunday morning, and so during a warm night I had to keep the windows closed to TRY to keep out the noise. Then on Sunday night, when I would have thought people would be asleep getting reading for a start to their work week there was even more VERY loud music coming from across the road and the sounds of laughter from nearby until 6am, so for the two nights I stayed there, I had very little sleep :( Apart from that the rooms a nice, the bed large and comfortable. I'm sure I'd arranged a breakfast but nobody mentioned anything so I didn't bother asking again. I did note when coming back to my room late Sunday night that there appeared to be a possible breakfast try sitting at the top of the stairs covered in cling film. I don't know who that was for, but I don't think I would have appreciated knowing my food had been sitting out there all night, especially as it looked like there was cheese and possible yoghurt of some kind. Nice to have tea/coffee making facilities outside the rooms, but had to keep going down to the bar area for sugar. The one truly lovely part was when I called to ask for directions upon arriving at Haapsalu Bussijaam the lady who answered the phone (I'm sorry I never did find out her name or if she was the owner), offered to come and pick me up, which she did - that alone saved me at least a 20 minute walk through very busy, street party filled streets :) All in all I'm not sorry I stayed there, it was a perfect location for what I needed. The only drawback was the noise, and I left there much tireder than what I was when I arrived after only 5 hours sleep in two days.…
The inn is connected to a restaurant, which serves decent food at a decent price. The inn has three rooms above the restaurant. The rooms are nice, but they are not set up for summer. There are no light-blocking shades so the natural sun will enter when the sun starts to be noticeable visible around 02:00. Also, there is a bar right across the street that plays loud music until 04:00 which also makes it hard to sleep.
We stayed two days at Haapsalu and liked a lot our accomodation place. We got very good service and nice breakfast served to our own table at morning in hotels restaurant. There is just three hotelrooms which means that place is usually allways booked.
We enjoyed both the very spacious (middle) room and the great, central location next to the castle of this lovely B&B. Best was the breakfast though, which included home-made pancakes, a nice choice of fresh fruit, cheeses and sausages and was served just for us by the very kind B&B manager. The room was very clean although not the latest and greatest in terms of furniture. The same applied to the bathroom, which could need an upgrade. As we happened to stay at Hermannuse Maja during a somewhat rainy and cold weekend in May, we didn't get to enjoy the terrace - it looked lovely though! All in all a very pleasant stay.
After staying in Tallinn for a few days, we left to drive down Estonia's west coast. This was one of my favorite places that we stayed in Estonia, but I love charming little places with character somewhat off the beaten path. I thought the terrace, with the episcopal castle right behind, was just lovely. Also one of the better breakfasts we had while in Estonia.
Having read glowing reports of this hotel/B&B I was expecting something special, but I thought it was just about average for the price ... And that is assuming that Estonia is more expensive than Latvia which we'd just left. There was a mix up over the rooms, and over night we thought we'd be paying an extra E.15, which made the room seem more expensive than we thought it was really worth, but in the end we paid the original agreed price. However, my real gripe is the terrace. It is a small smoking area, with 2 air conditioning units. It is not pleasant, and not somewhere you would want to sit and relax with a drink.
