Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

It was August when we married in Slovakia, my wife being of Slovakia Origin and from Zilina. After checking a fewvenues out on a previous trip we decided on dad's recommendations to opt for the Dubna Skala. Absolutely top class service. Great attention to detail and the staff couldn't do enough for you. We had the orange suite overnight and it offers great spacious accommodation and a nice balcony that over looks the street. Very clean. The meals where top class, breakfast excellent. The fact that it is a 5 minute stroll away from the square where the bars and shopping centres are makes it all the better. On a nice summer night it is great to sit out in the square and enjoy a nice chilled drink. Overall experience of the Dubna Skala was excellent. The management, waiters, receptionist's all great with a good knowledge of English, although I did have a personal translator with me (my wife), mini bars excellent and also the facilities are toprovided class, however most things are shut in Zilina on a Sunday or they shut at 12 apart from a park and mirage the major shopping centres (3 minutes walk). Would definitely recommend stopping there without a doubt.

I attended a conference about gaming in this hotel and I can not emphasise the friendly and can-do attitude of the staff. Really great, also the conference part was great, equiped and built in useful way, with good foyer with catering and bar and place for networking.

Room was nice, modern, spacious and more than great for 4 stars hotel. I also went to jacuzzi, that is included in price as well as sauna and some other spa treatments. Internet is available in every room and included in price.

Location is very good, right in the hearth of Zilina, next to everything. Breakfast was rich and tasty.

I also asked for late checkout as I had some time to experience spa and wanted to have the room and they were really kind and allowed it to me.

I was really pleased with quality of this hotel and found pretty much no cons except for some water flow sound in room sometimes, but that was not actually a problem, I just didn't experience this before.

I have a simple system of rating hotels. It’s called Wife Test. Just two grades: good hotel or other hotel. How does it work? If my wife wants to have SEX there - good hotel. If she doesn’t (meaning we will NOT have sex) - other hotel. Ok what need’s to be there to pass the test? Aha… Clean, clean, clean. Spacious modern rooms, comfortable beds, well equipped bathrooms with bath tube or at least a proper size shower. Nice view helps. Good service helps (meaning you can order some good food to the room) Did I mention CLEAN? And of course me!

This hotel?? Definitely a GOOD one. Driving across Europe we decided among others to stop overnight in city of Żilina. Didn’t book or expect anything great. This hotel was a nice surprise. I guess for Żilina it’s not cheap, double room 100E uppss. We were told years back it used to be popular restaurant/wine bar. Few years ago (as we read with big financial help of European Union Funds) it was reconstructed into this modern chick hotel. We got big room with double bed and pull out sofa. Large flatscreen on the wall. Toilet small but nice and clean, thick towels, gowns, slippers, elegant toiletry. Parking just by hotel. No more then 5 minutes walk to old town square with lots of eating (and drinking) establishments. Breakfast we loved, great quality, chief preparing eggs as you like. All very elegant with Villeroy Boch tableware.

The only minus for us was big construction works done opposite the street. Those guys working from 7 till 24!! (no any unions there??!) However after closing windows it was ok, no noise (and air con working fine). And the fact that there was almost constant (17-22) happy hour in the bar (order 1get 2) would make up. We were pleased with the stay and would definitely come back.

We booked this hotel for a 2-night NYE romantic getaway.

Check in: We arrived around 6.30pm and had to get the receptionist's attention to check us in. She made no eye contact whatsoever and didn't smile at all. She went through the check in procedure but didn't ask us any questions or offer us any advice on local attraction or even hotel facilities such as the spa. Also, I found it very unusual that we were asked to pay in full up front. In 99% of hotels you pay your bill upon checkout. Also, we went out for a jog the next morning and when we came back, we were asked to pay our room service bill from the previous night which I find absolutely ridiculous.

Room: The room is quite nicely laid out - I would rate it as a decent 3-star room. Certainly nothing exceptional.

Maid service: The maid came to make up our room while we were away but she literally did the bare minimum - threw our bed sheets back on the bed and left. She didn't even bother changing the sheets or replacing our towels with fresh ones. She didn't even fold the towels. She also left a piece of rubbish outside our room door.

Spa: The spa was excellent, really nice and cosy and clean. However I ordered two fresh grapefruit juices and we got juice from a carton.

Bar / food: We ordered food to our room but the guy at the bar messed up the order and didn't bring us what we wanted to my girlfriend went downstairs to complain. To be fair, they replaced the food and knocked the room service fee off our bill.

Check out: The blonde lady on reception who checked us out was excellent - she smiled, was professional and apologies about what happened with the food the previous day. She also asked us for our feedback and seemed genuinely interested in what we had to say. Perhaps her colleagues could learn something from her.

Overall: Definitely not a 4 star hotel. Location is excellent but the staff seem to be happy to do the bare minimum and really fail to offer anything close to 4 star service. I won't be visiting this hotel again nor would I recommend it to anyone who expects quality service.

Charming hotel in historical building, excellent location right in a city centre (check shopping / minigolf or bowling at Mirage centre - right opposite). Staff displayed an impeccable level of service, the breakfast was truly delicious and deliciously fresh cuisine, the room was elegantly furnished as well as being warm and cosy. Truly recommended!

My partner and I visited, every hotel seemed busy but there was a room here. Staff very friendly. Check in quick. Parking just down behind hotel. Room spacious and clean. Bathroom facilities great and spotless clean. Bar area nice, busy late evening. Breakfast was good, €10 each, reasonable price. Thank you, you made our trip to Zilina very nice.
