In the center of žilina (10 min from the train station), this hotel has a great location, great restaurant (try the Balkan spread or the fish with aspergus 🤤).
The staff was very helpful since my arrival to the end of my stay.
The rooms are relatively small and a bit old (furniture wise), but everything else was great.

Basic hotel with really good location, basically at the square. We didn’t have air conditioning (it would have cost 50€ more), but it wasn’t too hot. They usually have also spa department, but it was closed in summer time. Room was spacious and clean. Bit 90ish. Breakfast wasn’t the best one but ot was included to the price.

Room Tip: Taxis can pick you up 20m from the doors. Good restaurants nearby. Easy to find.

We stayed 3 nights at the Hotel Grand in Zilina (about 100 miles from Bratislava). The hotel was reasonable value (£55 per night B&B) but be wary of the 3 star+ rating. There aren't even hairdryers and toiletries comprised a small sachet of shampoo. The so-called double room we were given had 2 single beds in separate corners of the room. They did then give us a much better suite when we complained. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss. Lots of things on the buffet had run out by 8am. Still on the last day I was offered individually prepared scrambled eggs. The previous 2 days' creations had bacon in them - Slovakians are not hot on vegetarians! Slovakia is a wonderful country - cheap and relatively undiscovered - just be prepared to negotiate if you're not happy. Also be wary of the hard core porn on the TV - there for all to see at any time

By far the worst hotel I stayed in (concerning the price). Service and rooms are better at any HOSTEL you will book. Really disappointing, due to several reasons:
- the moment we arrived the stuff was really unfriendly
- the room was tiny and muggy
- Wellness is closed 4 out of 7 days (and costs additionally 1€/h)
- taking a shower went along with flooding the floor as we had a bath tub but no shower curtain whatsoever
- holes in the bed cover
- arriving at 9 for breakfast (lasting till 9.30) was definitely to late - nothing was refilled not even the hot water for tea!
- our room was not cleaned up during the day (we put the "please clean up" sign outside our door), and the moment we complained about it, we were told, it was our own fault, as we did not leave the keys....
Really really not to recommend with this kind of service!!!!

The best thing was the whirlpool in our room. I posted a photo :). Hotel was very clean and well kept. Nice quite new wellness. Very good spa. Good stuff, very helpful. The hotel has perfect location - directly in the main square of the city. We liked it here.

Never having being to Slovakia as it is now the location of this hotel was mid way from our last stop at Vienna and Poland so we werent really caring where the location was. It took some finding as there is no road access for vehicles but parking about 60m away in a vacant block is possible. The rooms were large and well furnished they had neglected a request (and additional paymeny) for an air conditioned room but did solve the issue with a AC room in about 30mins. The single room had a very comfortable bed, writing desk, chairs, wardrobe,TV,fan, phone and a fridge with a nice sized bathroom complete with a spa bath and all at a very reasonable price. The hotel has a restaurant, bar, lobby and a lift with a wellness centre at additional cost and a good lift. Internet is fast in the room and free. The double room has more space at a higher cost and AC. The main square is only a matter of 30m from the hotel or sit at the bar and look into it. Many dining establishments surround the square. A large modern shopping centre (www.aupark.sk/zilina) with over 120 shops and foodcourt as well as Supermarket (www.Billa.sk) backs on to a multi storey Tesco (www.tesco.sk) and a further short walk is both the older shopping area and another modern shopping centre.

Central location, old hotel with strange logistics (corridors, way to breakfast room..), several rooms are refurbished with nice bathrooms- recommended. Hotel parking might be full... Breakfast choice boring.. you get hungry before you reach the b-room. :o)

The receptionist was rude and disinterested. When I asked for directions to the parking area, she snidely responded "I don't know where your car is.", then proceeded to speak to my wife, who is Czech as if I weren't there. I wanted to avoid writing a review at all, but chose to after checking out. I tried to let the receptionist on duty when we checked out that their service during our check in was less than expected, but the receptionist didn't seem to understand what I was trying to say. As for our room, it was ok, the furniture is dated and in general the room smelled old, not unpleasant, just old.

The name is a bit of a misnomer but then I have stayed in much worse with even more grandiose titles. The room was a bit down at heel, with stained carpet, rickety furniture and an entrance light that didn’t work. The bed was comfortable enough but I continue my quest for a good pillow. Why have an oversized bolster that seems to be filled with air offering no head support? A big plus was the heating, with -16 outside. The shower was an odd affair, whereby you sit on a ledge and hold the nozzle for showering but the water was hot. On the ground floor there are two restaurants, one smoking and one non-smoking. The first morning I went to the wrong one, where I paid for my breakfast, not knowing that at the other side of the reception a free breakfast was waiting for hotel guests. All a bit confusing. On the positive side, the staff were very helpful and eager to please. In short, a basic, perfectly OK three star hotel in a good location that is in need of some upgrading.
