A very well located pension within 2 minutes walk to the Sibir railway station which lets you easily connect with towns all the way to Strsbe Pleso through to the other end, Poprad. A perfect spot from which to access walks in the High Tatras. The rooms are clean, basic, spacious and comfortable. Breakfasts are lovely auth fresh fruit and home made cake always available. Palco, the owner has really good English and helped our large group 22nd 22 hikers choose the best routes given the weather. Very useful when you aren't familiar with the area. Price was very good value. I intend to return.
The place just had a complete renovation and looks rather new. The owner - Palco - is a very social young guy, speaking fluid English and ready for assistance and supplying details about the surrounding etc. The very spacious room my wife and I received was not appealing, it looked very simple, had no decoration, and even a table to put on the electric cattle was not supplied; the tv screen dimensions may fit a computer but not a room. The room window, which has no shutter, was equipped with a thin curtain unable to block sunlight which annoyed us a lot. The adjacent large bathroom includes a new shower stall with a very limited space; addintioally it was equipped with a modern-design shower kit most difficult to operate and its handle required a watchmaker meticulousity for tuning the temperature, otherwise one may either freeze or suffer severe burns. We paid 38 € for one night including a basic breakfast and left afterwards.…
We stayed at Penzion Sibir for 2 nights of walking in the High Tatras, and had a fantastic experience. Traveling from Poland we missed our connecting bus to Slovakia and let the owner, Palko, know that we would be arriving later as we didn't know how we would get there. Palko then offered to drive the 2 hours to Poland to collect us for only the cost of the fuel, an incredibly generous offer that we took up, far above and beyond what could ever be expected. The Penzion itself is clean and cosy, and our room, despite being the oldest suite that is to be decorated this year, was spacious with beautiful views from the balcony. Breakfast was plentiful and it is a short walking distance to the train stop and Stary Smokovec, the main hub in the area. Palko recommended some great walks, and his English is excellent - he went out of his way throughout to ensure we had the best time possible. I couldn't recommend Palko and Penzion Sibir more to anyone looking to stay in the High Tatras.…
Travelled to Slovakia for the first time with family for mountain hiking and seeing its enduring beauty. Considering which hotel would be convenient in regards to the transportation availability as we were first timers. We did lot of research and located Pension SIbir and booked it for a week as its a family mountain bed and breakfast hotel. Walking distance for the local train station and located in the middle of Stary Smokovec provided the best suit for our needs as it was a perfect mountain hiking vacation locale. The staff were very helpful and polite. The ambience was really nice and the owner Pavol Ovsonka guided and offered us every detail of the place and made our trip very memorable. The price is very reasonable and it is a real value for money. I would recommend this hotel whoever is willing to visit this place. 5 star rating coming all the way from India.…
I was very amazed with this family operated mountain hotel. Price is very reasonable, 20 Euro per night, including breakfast. The room had a huge balcony with incredible mountain view. Location is perfect, everything is withing walking distance. The local train station was only 3 min walk. If you are looking for nice relaxing place to stay in High Tatras the B&B Sibir is the perfect place. Perfect location, great price and friendly people.
Nice room, friendly host, perfect view, delicious breakfast. The hostel made our trip in Tatry enjoyable and perfect. Not far from the town centre and close to the train station, easy to reach. We're definitely willing to go back again! The restaurant next to Sibir, Sibiranka, was also perfect. We could get discount for some restaurants because of staying in Sibir!!
Where to start? Tibor has been to High Tatras before the hurricane flattened lots of pine trees quite e few years ago. As my wife has not been to High Tatras in the winter, this was our dream holiday to enjoy snow, mountains, walks and of course the hospitality of local people. In Poprad we bought a unlimited monthly train ticket (for the price of about 10 day tickets) and enjoying the view in no time we were in Stary Smokovec (junction) but the electric train continued to Strbske Pleso - we got off at the third stop, which is Sibir. We have chosen Penzion Sibir, because is family run and only 5 min. walk distance from Sibir train station and a pleasant 15 min. walk from Stary Smokovec - this is in winter. The accommodation was on the 2nd floor with private facilities, balcony, served breakfast (that was varied every morning), free WiFi and a great view of the mountains! We did not go skiing, but did take the cable cars to Lomnicky Stit (2664m) and Hrebienok. We did do a lot of cross country walks on well marked paths and yes, we did stop in local pubs/restaurants for a hot soup, drink and a beer enjoying the snow covered mountains. Remember, you do not need a car in High Tatras. From Penzion Sibir we got everywhere in modern, comfortable and heated trains. My wife and I stayed for over 2 weeks and we also had visitors from Australia for a week.... they loved it! What else can we tell you? There is a "day menu" in most restaurants - with choice of 3 soups, 2 mains and a dessert for EU3,50... no kidding it is true! Our decimal point is their decimal comma. Beat that in land of Oz. Half a litre of beer is around EU1 - beer in Slovakia is excellent. From Bratislava we took a 1st class EC (Euro City) train to Poprad. It is fast and does not stop at each station. Enjoy the view, food and drinks in the restaurant car or just a beer in your cabin from a mobile trolley service. IC (Inter City) train is also good. Place reservation ticket is compulsory for both trains. The cost is "about" EU 15 and the jurney is "around" 3 hours. Be punctual as the trains leave and arrives on the minute - summer or winter. We had a couple of nights in Poprad, beautiful city, no need to have a car because everything in the centre is a walking distance. Thereagain from Sibir it is only 25 min by electric train and if you have a weekly or monthly ticket - use it! In Slovakia a person over 60 years of age can purchase a Senior concession for trains for only EU9, which is a great saving if you train from Bratislava and in High Tatras you use the electric train....…
