This hotel was good value. Its quirky and the rooms are all named as film stars. It's a but dated/ tired looking but was clean enough. The biggest downside for us is that there was a bar/nightclub downstairs with very loud music which went on until the early hours. I don't mind loud music normally but this was quite loud! Maybe it was a one off party but I had the feeling that it wasnt? Maybe check before booking if this is something that may bother you. Younger people this is likely to be a great hotel but for families or older people who are past thier clubbing days (as we are!) it's not so good. The hotel staff are friendly and its not too far from town in a good location.

The Film Hotel is a very nice little hotel in a great location in Bratislava's centre. Though it doesn't offer anything fancy in terms of perks, it is totally functional and is an amazing value. I stayed on the top floor with the shared bathroom. Sharing posed no problem and the bathroom was nice (though the toilet would be very difficult for people taller than 6 ft), but the couple sharing the floor with me smoked excessively in the hallway and I couldn't keep the smell out of my room.

The good: Location, cost, breakfast, cleanliness.

The bad: Unfriendly staff (English/Slovak speaking and rude in both languages).

Stayed in the Film for one night and it was sufficient. Service was reasonable and the room was decent.

However, don't expect anything fancy. No internet, no round-the-clock room service, basically, no fancy add-ons, but a solid middle-tier Eastern European hotel.

This is such a tired hotel in desperate need of renovation and a good deep clean.

We arrived and despite being within the very limited opening hours of the reception found the front doors locked. We rang the bell for 5 minutes before a woman came to let us in.

We were charged city tax for all 4 us for both nights, but I later found out that children are exempt.

There is no lift so we took our luggage up three floors to the loft. We had the whole floor to ourself as we needed two beds for 4 of us. The door had been patched up where it appeared it had previously been kicked and punched!

There were cobwebs and spiders all over the place. Later on we saw a centipede climbing up the wall, and some small black bug on the quilt but I didn’t manage to get a photo as it disappeared.

The corners of the beds around the mattress were all were covered in thick grey dust, as was under the beds.

I hardly slept all night due to the situation with the door and the fact that we’d seen no one else in the hotel and reception was locked and closed overnight too.

We pre-paid for breakfast on arrival for the following morning. When we got downstairs we came across 2 other hotel guests who were deaf and mute. The cereal was almost finished so we didn’t try it as we weren’t sure how long it had been in the dispensers. The fruit wasn’t fresh. The lighting in the breakfast area was also so bad. It was so dark and you couldn’t see anything properly. The woman working in the restaurant appeared after a while from the front entrance.

We didn’t stay for breakfast after trying the coffee and checked out a day earlier. Of course there was no one to explain to. When we left the key outside the locked reception doors young chap working at the hotel took it for us.

Would not recommend staying here until they make an effort to sort the place out. It was like staying in someone’s house but without them being there.

The mattress was very bad and uncomfortable.
The curtains are small and are not blackout. Light comes in.
The quilts too small, and the pillows thin.
Also the carpets seemed aged and stuffy.
We stayed for 2 nights, and the towels weren't changed.
The staff hardly knows proper English, whilst the reception was inexistent and contact person hard to reach.

On the good side, the hotel film theme is nice. The room furniture and dining salon were nice too. Breakfast selection was good. They accepted early checkin and late checkout.

With some little effort and a change of the mentioned bedroom items to decent ones the ratings would improve. Unless that is done, I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

1. The location is very good, very close to most attractions.
2. Rooms are not sound proof so you'll hear every little step or move people make
3. No attention to cleanliness
4. Do not take breakfast in the hotel, not worth the price

April of 2006 we stayed at The Film Hotel in Bratislava. From the moment we stepped up to the front desk we were treated terribly. The front desk clerk did not look up from her book for at least 5 minutes when we were standing there saying hello to her. When she finally looked up she said"Yeah" to us. We gave her our reservation confirmation and she barely handed the keys to us. We asked about internet hook-ups and she said she did not know of any internet even though we found out later there was a cafe 3 doors away.

The room was touted as The Brad Pit Room. There was one poster of Brad Pitt on the wall and nothing else.

When we left they told us they would not accept our credit card so we paid cash. We were never told this in advance. I would never stay at this hotel again. There was absolutely zero service and zero charm.

Well it seems our American cousins would have been happier in a bland anonymous corporate hotel!

I stayed 2 nights recently in this hotel and found it to be excellent. I will stay there again if I visit Bratislava.

It is a quite small hotel refurbished to a good standard. The staff were all friendly, the rooms were clean with excellent bathrooms and there was an good bar.

The hotel provides excellent value for money as it is about half the price of the big chains. If you book a superior room I think they have lounges.

As fir the theme aspect I was pleased this wasn't over the top. Perhaps our American reviewer wanted a Las Vegas style hotel!

As for paying in cash we were made aware when we checked in. There are plenty of cash machines close so this shouldn't be a problem.

The location is good right on the edge of the old town (next to the Crown Plaza I think).

Stayed for two nights, small room with dirty carpet, bathroom was a bit smelly but ok. Receptionist and waitress were friendly. The hotel bar is also the breakfast room. Unfortunately, due to the fact that smoking is allowed in the bar in the afternoon, you can still smell the old & cold smoke the next morning. Buffet is ok, choice is sufficient. Location is great, 15min walk to downtown.

Stayed in this hotel for one night and at first I was very impressed from the outside and friendly staff. The rooms are not film themed just have pictures of the famous person around the room, this wasn't a big problem as we had chosen this hotel based on the distance from the main train station and the centre and this was great. The reason for my score is that on first looks the room seems clean and the bathroom new, comfortable bed and black out curtains. However the carpet looked like it had not been hoovered for months and the bed covers had a stain at the top.
