It's a nice hotel, good location and well organised. We were placed in the top floor, lovely layout and modernised, but if you are over 6 ft forget it... Low doors and ceilings everywhere. We asked to be moved and they were happy to put us in a room on the ground floor. Again no grumbles with it, other than than its an old building with ill fitting doors and windows, so you could hear every other guest coming and going in the night, and we were over the restaurant /bar, so 6am was lots of banging and noise as they stocked up. This probably sounds like a negative review, but paradoxically we would stay again... Just thought we would let you know what to expect

I was with my family at Bratislava for one night and this Downtown hotel was the perfect stay. Room was clean. Big bathroom. Warm and cozy. The staff was very friendly. The only thing was lil bit noisy from the other ppl walking by, but i will not take a star from this place for that.

Miles better than expected and close to everything we wanted to visit. The reception and rooms were easy to find and the bonus of the restaurant downstairs was great and it had very well priced delicious food. Also an option to buy breakfast. The rooms provided towels, TVs and shampoos and super comfy beds. Would definitely recommend.

So I'm not usually a review writer but I left downtown backpackers half eaten by bed bugs so didn't want anyone else to have their holiday ruined by staying here! Rooms were 45 degrees, no fan, no air con and when I started itching I thought it was just a heat rash but when I put my phone light on I could see that my whole bed was crawling with tiny red bugs which had bitten my whole body (see picture). These things happen (I'm a reasonable human) so I politely asked the staff what could be done about it as I'd had a hideous night with no sleep and the manager was super defensive, kept just saying it's the tourists fault for transferring them across hostels and that she's cleaning once a week and that should be enough. She didn't give me my money back or anything. Shocking customer service!

Checked into this hostel at 9pm and by 11pm I had been bitten 20 times by the bed bugs, I could actually see the bed bugs crawling around. They moved me to another room which was good, but also would mean that I would have transferred the bed bugs down with me to the other room.
I asked the receptionist the next morning if I could get a refund for the following days I had booked, I paid 39 euro for the stay for 4 nights and they only gave me a refund of 30 euro, so I paid for one night to get eaten by bed bugs. They did not offer to wash all of my clothes either so then had to pay to get my washing done at the new hostel I checked in.
So an overall terrible stay, staff didn't seem to bothered about it either.

MUST STAY!! I have travelled to over 40 countries and this was truly an excellent place to stay!
Wonderfully friendly and helpful staff members (especially Veronika)! Good location and excellent value for money. In a city of this size location is not so much of an issue but this is centrally located nonetheless.

The rooms as spacious and secure - if possible ask for beds 9 and 10 in the 10 bed mixed dorm "Warhol room" as this is virtually a private room for the same price.

The hostel has a great bar (and bar keeper) with a lively atmosphere (a mix of lovely local Slovakian people and backpackers), the kitchen has a fairly priced and diverse menu, the beer is cheap and music is great! We stayed in the 10 person mixed dormitory on the 2nd level

We had an all night (and morning) sing-along in the basement with a vibrant mix of locals and backpackers from around the world!

This is both a place where you can party but also have quiet in rooms and relax without being disturbed, A truly excellent experience in all aspects.

We were welcomed with some crazy local shots in their cool bar right at the entrance. It is a great place for travellers and backpackers. It was a little difficult for us to carry our bags on the second floor as we had huge luggage suitcases. Rooms were spacious and beds were comfortable. The hostel is right next to the bus and tram station which made it easy for us to travel around.

Hostel Downtown Backpacker’s is located in Bratislava’s one of the busiest areas. It’s truly a great hostel for backpackers & budget travelers.

Location

I personally liked the location of Hostel Downtown Backpacker’s because it is not very far from the main square. The old city, historical parts & sights are within walking distance & can easily be covered. It’s approximately 1.5 km away from the main train station & there is a direct bus going from the station to the hostel’s location.

Staff

Hostel Downtown Backpacker’s staff is really friendly. They showed me a lot of sight & how to reach them via map. Also, they are ready to go to any length to make your stay comfortable. Don’t forget to take their recommendations if you want to explore Bratislava like a local.

Sleep Quality

The beds are comfortable, rooms are spacious & every bed has its own locker. Blankets, bedsheets, pillow & pillow covers are provided. You just have to put them on. They do not charge anything extra for these things. I personally liked the bed because its HUGE.

You will sleep peacefully here because the rooms & passages are generally quiet. People do not make much noise (in hostel & in Bratislava overall).

Kitchen Facility

The kitchen of Hostel Downtown Backpacker’s is small. The usability of it is really high though. There are mostly all kinds of utensils, electric kettles, oven & fridge. When I stayed, some guests did not clean the utensils properly hence some were really dirty. That’s not really the hostel’s fault though.

Alternatively, if you do not want to cook, they have a nice restaurant on the ground floor where you can eat breakfast, lunch and/or dinner at really cheap prices. They also have a bar which stays open till late night. There are some welcome shots for guests as well. 😉

Other Amenities

There are many complimentary services that you can avail at Hostel Downtown Backpacker’s. Wi-Fi, parking, tea-coffee, city maps, luggage room are just some of them. They also offer guided tours, bike rentals & international calling at nominal rates.

Overall

If you are looking for a hostel near the central area, close to the train station, bus station & all sightseeings (and in budget), Hostel Downtown Backpacker’s is the best choice.

There was this bald receptionist guy that was really rude and aggressive, hurrying everybody to leave without asking nicely before. Never ever smiling, never being nice. Really rude. The cleaning of the hostel could be better. Lots of light in the bedroom early in the morning. The location was good.

Bratislava is a small city so location won't be a problem for any hostels here. I found the hostel easy enough. In the room, the beds were quite firm and incredibly creaky (basically if anyone moved in their sleep, you'd know about it. The room had windows but no curtain so there was zero privacy from the neighbouring buildings. There was also only 1 powerpoint for 8 people which was positioned near the door in an awkward place to access. Wifi was fine, however my main concern was the toilets. The lights were incredibly dim and also one of the toilets felt like it wasn't completely attached the floor. Also, the hostel staff came into our room after my first night and informed us we all had to leave the room with our stuff so they could fumigate the hostel. We were told this half an hour before it was happening, even though they do it every 3 months apparently (hence more notice would have been appreciated). Also, guests were permitted to re enter after 3 hours which I don't think is an adequate time to enter a chemical filled room where you need to sleep.
