Be warned! Dare to stay at the Botel Boca Gracia at your own peril. I agree with nugenae that the botel's website is misleading and brochures of the place are not accurate representations of the reality that is the Botel Gracia. We read these reviews before we went and were wary of the botel. However, our group agreed that online reviews do not reflect the opinion of everybody. So, off we went thinking "it can't be that bad" but believe me it is! So bad that our group made up the following song:

"Welcome to the Botel California, such a shabby place, (even!) when you're off your face"....

If you are determined to stay on the botel try to get a room on the river side not the bank side as these are not as gloomy. The floor on the same level as the reception has a distinctive (but unpleasant) smell that is not as bad on other floors so try to avoid that floor as well.

This hotel is not suitable for tall people as the showers are very small and when you sit on the loo your knees will touch the wall. The beds are hard and the staff gave a mixed response to our group. Also some dodgy stains on the carpet. Basically if you're going to Bratislava with any other intention aside from getting so drunk you won't care where your sleeping I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

The location of the Boca Gracia is excellent. At the botel you will find budget accomodation which is easily matched in price by other 'pension' hotels in Bratislava of a much better quality. For something a bit more upmarket but still affordable I would suggest the Hotel Danube over the road from the botel. The Danube is also in an excellent location, has marvellous views, friendly staff, no odd smells or stains, and a price can be negotiated (especially at the weekend).

Response from Stanislav B, Guest Relations Manager at Botel Gracia
Responded 22 Nov 2011
It is almost five years from the date the review above has been posted. Botel Gracia MUST react on review such as this one for in five years there have been many changes around the hotel including ownerschip change and complete renovation. After complete renovation (2011) we are not experiencing any smell at all. Rooms have new walls, carpets, new comfy beds, new furniture, completely new bathrooms, curtains...basicly everything. New owner has turned the hotel in one happy place for most of our customers. We are disappointed in previous management as much as you are. You are welcome to visit us anytime and see the difference for yourself. Miroslav Bencic Guest relations

This is a no-frills sort of place with futon on wood beds. CLean, but not fancy. TV and Shower in the room. It is really a boat but motionless, so the rooms are like small cruise ship rooms. The restaurant was quite good and cheap. It is on (or in) the Danube River and accross the street from the old town. A lot of cafes etc upon late.

Of course Botel Gracia is not for everybody! Definitely not for those expecting luxury accommodation from a hotel (or a botel for all that matters) that caters for budget travellers. If you need a car park, you should better book yourself into the Radisson SAS Carlton, a few blocks further down. As for the rain, just get yourself a decent umbrella. Staying at the Gracia is not guarantee for good weather. Unfortunately.

What the Gracia offers is good value for money, right in central Bratislava, where budget accommodation is actually rather hard to come by. The city’s Old Town is virtually at your doorstep, just across the road.

I spent a night on the botel at the end of October. My room was spacious, bright and airy, with wide views over the Danube, central heating, air con, minibar, telephone and tv with plenty of channels in Eastern European languages only though, with the only exception of one Austrian channel in German. The bathroom was rather small, but perfectly adequate, with some basic toiletries, and excellent good water pressure. The bed was a bit too hard to my liking, and I never quite understood the purpose of a three seat sofa in a single room. A larger bed would have been of better use. Still, I had no problem to get a good night sleep. Buffet breakfast was pretty decent with toast, eggs, hot and cold meats, cheese, yoghurts, some fruit, juice and tea or coffee.

Those who usually feel seasick on boats need not worry. The Gracia does not rock at all. However, light sleepers should bear in mind that the curtains in the rooms are rather thin, with no lining at all, and so the rooms get bright with the first light of the day! If this does not bother you, then go for it!

I have stayed at (on) this botel several times over the past few years and can vouch for its value-for-money. Its not, by any means, fancy but for £50 per night for a double room incl. breakfast, it can't be bettered. Its safe, clean, central, has helpful English speaking staff at reception and the breakfast is passable. Its in a fairly safe area, within a five minute walk of the National Theatre and staying on it is really a unique experience.

Gracia is definitely unique, but we did not care too much. It was raining, which may have added negative feeling about the botel. The restaurant and the bar on the botel were closed. We could not park our car next to Gracia, we got soak in wet walking from an alternative parking spot. Towel, room carpet and curtain are old. Do not ask the botel to book a taxi to the airport, because flat charge of 500 SKK includes hotel commission of approximately 150~200 SKK if you want to save that for something else. Breakfast buffet was not the best I had experienced. Maybe experienced travelers might enjoy the botel.

Response from Stanislav B, Guest Relations Manager at Botel Gracia
Responded 22 Nov 2011
Our response to the review above will be strictly about facts of the services Botel Gracia is providing nowadays. Botel Gracia has new owner with new policy and is proving itself to be one of the best *** hotels in Bratislava. Now for the facts: - 2011, complete renovation of the hotel (no more stains, no more smell, more comfort) - Restaurant and Bar are open daily from 11AM till 11PM - Parking right next to the Botel Gracia is at zour disposal. - Towels are new, so are the carpets and curtains (renovation) - Don't book hotel taxi if you want to be cheated! For example we had customer paying 30 EUR from Bus station to our hotel. For the same distance our taxi driver charges 8 EUR. Train station is for 10 EUR and airport for 18 EUR. Provision to the reception is 1 EUR included in the price. The choice is yours. Facts speak for themself. You are welcome to visit our hotel and enjoy it's services, renovated facilities and comfort we are providing today. Miroslav Bencic Guest relations

I've just returned on Monday after staying in the Botel Gracia with a stag of 21 people from Sunderland. It was not as bad as people made out. Admittedly I wouldn't take my lass there like but for groups of hens and stags its perfectly okay? They let you get away with murder, the rooms are clean but look like they are from the 60's, the location is class and we generally had a good time there.

The breakfast was a bit of a mess with only eggs and bread worth eating really. They have hotdogs and some other thing but I wouldnt eat them like.

The Barok Botel Nightclub next door was okay. Sometimes you had to pay a 50 Korun (£1) to get in, then other times you didnt?

Drinks are about £1.20 in the Botel Gracia and about the same in the club next door.

Watch out for buying wine and food in the centre of Bratislava as we got ripped on our first night so we didnt eat anymore (apart from Maccy D's).

The minibar in the botel rooms is cheap as well and they didnt charge us for loads of beer.

Enjoy lads and lasses anyway!

Judging by the tone of some of the comments about the Botel Gracia, you’d think it was a floating Nissen hut. It isn’t.

The breakfast wasn’t the best in the world – fair enough. Also, I agree that the toilet / showers are small. But my room was clean and tidy, with a comfortable bed. Also, my room/cabin was kept very warm. Remember, this was mid Dec when the outside temperature didn’t get above -8 degrees C.

Granted, it’s not the Ritz, but despite these minor gripes, how many people can say they’ve woken up, pulled back the curtains in their ‘room’ and there’s the mighty Danube flowing by only feet way?!

The Botel Garcia is a perfectly adequate low-cost accommodation option in a superb location in central Bratislava.

So if you wanna stay on a river cruise, this is the place. The hotel is a cruise converted to a hotel. Located near to the centre of city, botel is placed on the banks of Danube and the window view is awsome.
Room size was little small, washrooms are less spacious as well. breakfast was average.

I was on on 3 weeks holiday with a friend of mine in Eastern Europe. If you are planning to visit Bratislava, 1 night is enough :)

Price - Rating: 3/5. Given the hotel and room facilities, location, cleanliness but smelly toilet, size, security etc, I can say the price is very reasonable. I booked this hotel from booking dot com after many price research and good reviewed from tripadvisor. We want experience to stay in a boat hotel.

Friendliness of staff - Rating: 1/5. Frontdesk was not helpful at all. I asked for a tram direction to Bratislava main train station, and he is unable to provide the answer. I believe, hotel staff especially the reception should be able to provide main attraction area, and main transport area at the minimum.

Cleanliness - Rating: 3/5. The hotel and room are clean, however the bathroom is smelly. The hotel is a non smoking area, however, there is a smoking area outside of the botel.

Location - Rating: 5/5. The location is 5 star, Less than 5 minutes walk to tram station, less than 10minutes walk to the Bratislava Castle and the UFO tower. Within 20mins walk to Old Town Square. There are many shops, bar, minimart, malls nearby.

Facilities - Rating 2/5. The hotel facilities needs major refurbishment espcially the TV. It is 2016 already and the TV is very old school. Most hotel in Bratislava provided breakfast in the room price, however, the food selection is very minimal and not decent at all. The Management can consider to provide kettle and toaster instead.

Demerit:
1. Smelly bathroom.
2. TV upgrade is required.
3. Major refurbishment is required.
4. Trained frontdesk is required.

We booked a boat for the first time in the hotel, but unfortunately, it was also the last. Location and views were great. We had booked a room for 2 people. Fitted carpet was soaking wet front of the bathroom, the toilet was very small. The window sill was really a lot of dead bugs, cockroaches, perhaps. As we left the reception room, we saw a really big spiders! We were unfortunately forced to change hotels. The staff was understanding and said that we will exchange free of charge (we do know that when the VISA bill will be) Maybe we are too strict, but we would not have been able to stay here: (
We booked a room in the new hotel of Saffron.

I don't think it has a disco on board, but city centre is within a 5 min walk. The renovation might be finished as I don't remember any works being carried out at Christmas time when I stayed there. They deffinitely serve breakfast on board, but not sure about lunch and dinner meals! Hope this helps! :)

C'è un parcheggio o un garage dove mettere al sicuro una moto? Grazie
Answer from Alessandro
Mogliano Veneto, Italy47 contributions13 helpful votes
