Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Fantastic breakfast, very good dinner at the restaurant. Fast and efficient staff. Well equipped gym with a great view of the mountains. Did use the pool but looked good. Ample parking but not central to city. Little dated rooms without an iron. But all in all great.

We stayed in the Arcade four nights in June 2004. The hotel is located just a few steps from Banska Bystrica's wonderful historical square. The building the hotel is located in is a few hundred years old, on a narrow cobbled street (not accessible to the door by taxi so plan to lug your own bags half a block and then up a flight of stairs!) It is a short distance to the main train and bus stations. (Taxi fare from the bus station was about $4.) Right around the corner is an excellent folk museum and several fine restaurants. We booked two double rooms for two grownups and three children, but the management upgraded us to two suites at no extra cost. The suites are large, with a living room/bathroom on the main floor and spacious bedroom on the upper floor. A maximum of three people can inhabit a suite (the sofa downstairs converts to a bed.) The windows face onto a cafe opposite, and it is somewhat noisy at night when the windows are open. Breakfast is not included in the room price but it is tasty, filling and inexpensive. On the whole, I would say that the Arcade is one of those small, unique establishments that are full of character and deserve a visit all on their own. Why visit a high-rise clone hotel when you can spend less money and enjoy your surroundings more? We loved Banska Bystrica too and we look forward to visiting the area again.

The Arcade Hotel in the heart of Banska Bystrica is situated directly in an old nice building on the market place, with a lovely surrounding. We got a big room, with separate living room, which was clean and nice, even though not quite modern. Reception staff was nice, but the buffet in the breakfast room was not filled up (already 30 minutes after the start). The window in our sleeping room led directly to the backyard with either noise or the smell from th kitchen.

Great hotel right in the central square in Banska. The staff are helpful and friendly. Rooms are big and while they don't have aircon, rooms are equipped with fans, which can be a nicer option. Breakfast is perfectly fine, with really good coffee.

This is a great hotel right on the town square.

When we were there, in September, it was blissfully peaceful.

The hotel is staffed by lovely, friendly and very helpful people. Very efficient check in and check out.

Breakfast had a huge range and lots of it. I have no idea why a previous reviewer was disappointed - what on earth did they want?

A previous reviewer moaned that there was no elevator, and yes, if you were immobile that would be a problem, but the stairs are wide and gentle. (1 guest whilst we were there had clearly had a stroke, and he manged fine). Not steep at all.

It was easy to find - it has a name plate on the front of the square. 15 minute walk from the railway station and 'Mesta' station is about 5 minutes if your train stops there.

The room was large, spacious, lots of drawers and cupboards to put things away and a really comfortable bed. Great shower.

As well as all the positives - stupidly I left something behind. Very kindly - it is now on it's way to the UK.

Yes, I would recommend this hotel to a friend, and I'd go back.

Friendly, warm, clean, comfortable, quiet, great breakfast ...... ALL good.

Good sized rooms, clean, comfortable, nice staff. Unbeatable location on the square.
Breakfast was disappointing, as were the three long flights of stairs to our rooms with no one to help with our cases.
Easy private parking. Would stay again - on a lower floor!.

Stopped here during our 2 week excursion across Slovakia. The check-in went smoothly and the manager spoke fluent English. By standards set by the 5 other hotels we stayed in, our room was very large. Had to take one flight of stairs to our room, but that's not unusual considering the age of the building. The room, bedding and bathroom were all clean. While small by American standards, the bed was quite comfortable. The breakfast was modest but good. The hotel is centrally located and lots of local attractions are accessible by foot. Go ahead and give them a try, you won't be disappointed.

Very nice and basic place. Central. Rooms have a majestic feel. Good service. Parking is behind the hotel and a bit tricky. Be aware of that.

Try the Angus Restaurant or the Klubovna for your meals. Not far away.

The hotel is just in the center of the historic town. The rooms were huge and very nice decorated. Basically all the hotel is restored very nicely. We had rooms facing the pedestrian zone which were great. View from the bedroom was spectacular. Restaurants and pubs just in front and near hotel. Breakfast was adequate.
Parking is at the back of the hotel which is not very easy to find since it looks like an abandoned place. On the negative side, the hotel does not offer a lift hence carrying heavy luggage to the third floor was very tiring. Moreover, it is old building so the flight of stairs where like going to the fourth floor or more. Hence I would not suggest this hotel to people with mobility difficulty.

This hotel is really nice and clean. The receptionist was polite and helpful. It´s good location right on Trieda SNP Square but it is really hard to find an entry to reception. They don´t have any navigation from square as you can see on my second picture. I would recommend hotel owner to put just one navigation desk from square to the reception and problem is solved. Breakfast was also very tasty with good choice of foods and drinks.
Only problem in my room were thin walls and I have heard noice and conversations from next rooms.

"Room 100 is where we stayed. It has windows to the square but is quiet. The room is very nice but has not extra power outlets to charge your cellulars. The owner is not allowed to modify the room according to the regulations."
