We have been in business/family trip in Banská Bystrica and we had reservation in this very nice hotel/pension. It is located at 5 min walk from the old town square and the service and the personal are friendly and professional! Thank you for everything!
When arrived to hotel car park I was shown by car park attendant to park at other side of car park. When I moved the car and was collecting my belongings from back seat, he aggressively started to give out to me. His problem was, that he had to tidy up the gravel again as my car did small wheel spin (hire car with strong engine, automatic). When I asked if he is employee of the hotel, he answered, that it is not my business who he works for. Two ladies behind reception were obviously amused by this story and laughed at my complaint. Do not expect continental type of hotel. I would categorize it as B&B.
We stayed in the Hotel, room 101, and it was all round excellent. Our room was huge and beautifully decorated. I'm not big on religious decor, but it did suit our room very well. Everything was clean, the room was quiet and we slept well. Wifi was free and worked well. Breakfast was fine, no complaints. We ate in the the restaurant one night and it was excellent; great choice on the menu and very reasonably priced. Quirky decor everywhere and an outside terrace to dine on. Hotel is located a couple of minutes walk to the main square, and had free on site parking.
The rooms were charming and nicely decorated so you still felt in Slovakia even with the door closed. Even with a quaint vibe, it was updated with all the modern conveniences you expect. There did seem to be a lot of stairs everywhere – in the hallway leading to rooms and in our room too. They did have an elevator though. We ate dinner at the attached restaurant which was very good. It was a quick walk to the main square where the hub of activity seemed to be. Overall, this was an excellent stay!
How fortunate we felt to get a last minute reservation at Hotel Kuria! Our room was great: view, amenities, service, and, quiet! We absolutely loved the eclectic decor and especially enjoyed the always present Religious (Catholic) painting, statues and iconography displayed everywhere! The owners embrace their space and we loved our stay. A town worth visiting: Walk up the tower, Churches of beauty, Museums, a lovely town center and a cemetery on a hill.
Rooms nicely decorated, but without AC, and very noicy fan. Extremely hot in rooms on upper floor and from southern side. Too expensive for quality offered. Breakfast 6 Euro extra, ok, but nothing special.
I only stayed here for a night. The hotel is situated a very short walk from the main town square. Parking is easy as the hotel has their own little parking lot down the side of the hotel. The hotel itself is a little bit odd to say the least. It almost feels like it's caught in the 1970s with its quirky bits of furniture and decor. My room was surpringsly big, it had it's own little hallway, a foyer, a balcony, of course a decent sized bathroom with an exceedingly powerful shower. The main room was huge, with a sofa and chairs and all the usual bits you find in a hotel room. So all in all a decent place to stay. The only real negative about the place was the breakfast buffet. It was really rather lacking and could do with few more options. Would I stay there again? Probably not. But it was ok. Well worth the money paid, well.. apart from the breakfast …
We stayed 3 nights this past July....our second time here. Excellent pension...friendly, hard-working staff...fantastic breakfast in restaurant...quaint outdoor patio in back...very close to square...farmers market steps away...everything you'd ask for...excellent
We visit Banska Bystrica few times a year because it's my home town. My father in law always stayed in hotel kuria becouse of its location and convenient parking. Our last stay at the hotel was shocking and we certainly won't be staying in kuria again. After finding out that fridge in our room wasn't working (we have a 18 months old daughter who drinks milk during the night and fridge is a must for us becouse opened milk needs to be stored at the fridge temperature ) the receptionist was no help at all and just said to wait till tommorow when a manager is in.Luckyli waiter saved the situation and offered us bucket with ice for a time being. It wasn't ideal but at least someone tried to solve the problem.Later that evening manager knocked on our door , appologied and promised the fridge will be fixed next day or we will be moved into different room ,she also got us another wine cooler with ice.The next day we waited and waited and no one bother to update us on the situation. So my father in law decided to find out from the receptionist . He was told we will be moved into diferent room and given room key. What a surprise when he checked the fridge in that room and it wasn't working !!!also I forgot to mentiom that fridge in his room was also not in working condition. After shocking find that no one bothered to actually check he wanted to speak to manager who was apparently having lunch and couldn't be disturbed. He was also given another room key and luckyli the fridge worked. My husband started packing so we can move and I went downstairs with my father in law who wanted to speak to manager (who doesn't speak a word in english)hoping for apology as from our 2 days stay we spent one evening trying to get someone help us,next half day waiting for update and then one hour moving into different room. This was not what we were expecting from our stay. Unfortunately the manager of the hotel didn't understand what we were expecting from her and had a feeling that her knocking on our door last night was a problem solved. Apparently she was just on the way to give us a room key and didn't know about not working fridges. We know the cleaner has been aware of this issue. The manager also blamed me for not translating everything what she said to my father im law as he WAS their regular customer. After the accusations I was told Im the worst customer she ever had in her hotel and she wants us to move out .Even the receptionist was shocked at that statement. I would really leave the hotel that moment but my father in law promised he will sort the situation through the receptionist . We stayed one more night and paid full price for the worst 2 days experience. We also got no appology from the manager . Its a hotel with a great location , clean spacious rooms and brilliant staff in restaurat but the manners of the manager of this hotel will take the hotel down Such a shame…
The location can't be better. The hotel was filled with art and artifacts from Slovakia which was charming. Clearly, they are proud of their heritage. The rooms were comfortable, roomy, and impeccably clean. Parking was free and next to the hotel in the lot belonging to the church. I wish we had stayed longer. Not wheelchair accessible, for those who need to know.
