I was here with 3 colleagues in the dead of winter. We were the only guests so it's hard to judge what this place is like when lively. The place could do with a cash injection, however, the hospitality was very good from all staff.
Back in the area in a couple of weeks and will probably stay here again. The photo is sunrise from the car park!

Wanting a couple of days break while not going to far from an ongoing project in South-Slovakia my wife, our little dog and I thought we would cross the border and visit Salgótarján.
We booked online a double room in the Salgó Hotel for two nights the cost was I think somewhere between €50 - € 60.. Quite reasonable. ( there was an extra charge made for the dog)
We had a little trouble finding the hotel (even with GPS navigation) as it lies not actually in Salgótarján but up in the forest a few kilometers outside the main city near a place known as "Somoskőújfalu".
On arrival we were greeted by a nice friendly girl in reception and showed ourselves to our room. the room while not large was very clean and comfortable. It was however very hot.. perhaps more to do with the time of year than through any fault of the hotel it is fair to say.
During our stay we found the staff to be friendly and very good ... there was someone different on duty every day.
The hotel is situated among the trees in a great forest so there is a peaceful atmosphere and a feeling of being surrounded by nature. We took a couple of walks in the forest with the dog. other guests seemed to be doing the same.
Breakfast is served ( at a slightly later time than I am used to) in their large dining room and seemed to vary depending on which staff had prepared it.. The first morning there was a selection of cold meats and cheeses as well as a warmed bain-marie containing scrambled egg as well as some cooked sausage.. bread and soft-butter portions (no toast) coffee .
All together it was a fairly good breakfast selection.. certainly better than I have experienced in other more expensive 3 star hotels in this part of Europe.
The second morning's breakfast was for the most part quite similar, except there ere no scrambled eggs ( an Englishman quite likes an egg in the morning ).. and the butter was too cold-hard to spread. apart from these matters it was nevertheless a substantial and satisfying start to the day.
In the evening we sat outside on the terrace on the edge of the forest and enjoyed a drink as the air cooled a little
At weekends the hotel can become quite full of guests and the small car park may be inundated.
Overall we were very pleased with the Salgó Hotel.. would certainly recommend it to other travellers and should the need arise I would stay there again myself..
