We took our son here for a surprise 21st birthday trip earlier this year. We upgraded to the Executive floor - well worth the extra expense. Our taxi pulled up and we were greeted by a uniformed doorman who escorted us into the foyer. Bellboys immediately took our bags and we were directed to separate reception on the mezzanine floor...

We stayed in the Corinthia as part of a pre-extension of a Viking River Cruise. The hotel had an old-time, luxurious feel to it, complete with robes and slippers and a great large tub to soak in, in addition to the shower. The buffet breakfast was wonderful. My only regret is that we did not get a chance to swim...

Stayed in Corinthia Hotel Budapest for a weekend trip during December - overall a 5* experience. The rooms were spacious and service was excellent (was a surprising touch to find a bottle of complimentary wine and also complimentary sweats both nights). The help desk was great at helping book a restaurant and providing recommendations as to where to go. The...

The moment you walk into this hotel you feel relaxed and comfortable. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. We had an executive room which allowed us full use of the executive lounge and the staff in that area could not do enough for you, nothing was too much trouble. We had bed and breakfast and the food was delicious. I absolutely...

The building is a beautiful historic ensemble, consisting of several houses. The staff is very friendly and the service is good. Room service food is very good. We stayed at an apartment, which was very spacious and convenient for us. Unfortunatelly the location is not so perfect. In front of the hotel is a big street with cheap fastfood Restaurants....

The hotel has oodles of history to peruse, is well placed in the middle of the city - just minutes from a train station and you can walk to the river. The foyer has a fabulous feel and that sense of luxury is carried through to the huge atriums at either side of the central building.

Amazing hotel with very friendly and accommodating staff. When we arrived, we were informed that our "superior" room booking had been upgraded for no charge to one of the adjoining residences attached to the hotel. Excellent service, clean and grand hotel. We had the executive room, with access to the Executive Club with a nice and simple breakfast. Enjoyed tea time drinks and snacks when we arrived and before we left. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

The hotel has been beautifully restored & has a luxurious feel to it. Although a big hotel, it is not the slightest bit impersonal. The staff are helpful, friendly & have a good level of English. I have stayed here several times & would not hesitate to go back again or recommend it to friends or colleagues.

Staying in District VII / Jewish Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
District VII / Jewish Quarter
District VII is the very heart of Budapest and houses the city’s Jewish Quarter. Its streets are lively and colorful, its buildings narrate different histories in an assortment of architectural styles, and its cafes and bars are frequented and loved by the enthusiastic crowds. Grand and magnificent, the striking star of the district is the Great Synagogue, the largest in Europe and one of the biggest in the world. Distinctly Moorish in style, crowned by the twin onion shaped domes, the Synagogue is the very emblem of District VII and one of the main attractions in the capital.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
First opened in 1896 as the Grand Hotel Royal; a hub for the elite of nineteenth century society, and painstakingly restored to its original glory some hundred years later, the Corinthia Budapest – located in the heart of the city - brings together classic hotel opulence with the finest five-star luxury of modern times. While the gracious frontage, marble floors, sweeping staircase and breathtaking, six-story Atrium preserved from the original building offer glorious hints of a bygone age, the levels of comfort and convenience are all reassuringly up to date.A particular feature is the hotel’s original Royal Spa centre, with 15-metre pool, now extensively refurbished by the current owners to reflect the very best in 21st-century spa luxury while retaining the grandeur of the past. Without doubt the finest hotel in Budapest. Built in classic French Renaissance style, the Grand Royal became a beacon of luxury in the days of Emperor Franz Joseph 1. Designed as a centrepiece of Hungary’s celebrations to mark its first thousand years, the hotel’s grand-style architecture and unrivaled guest facilities were seen as state-of the art for the times. Much of the building was destroyed in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and despite re-opening in more modest form in the 1960’s, the Grand Royal remained a shadow of its former self until the 1990’s; when new owners Corinthia Hotels gave the green light for an extensive restoration project that would retain the best of the old, while sensitively adding the new. Once restored to its original splendour, the newly named Corinthia Hotel Budapest re-opened its doors, as a five-star luxury property, in 2003. ... more   less
