This was my first trip to Budapest and chose the Matyas for its location and the price was very appealing. The hotel is in an excellent location, next to Elizabeth Bridge, the Buddha Bar was across the street, Vaci utca (pedestrian street) just steps away and The Great Market Hall is about a 10 minute walk right at the end...

Decent sized room with small en-suite bathroom with shower. Comfortable bed and pillow. Facing the front so too noisy to have windows open on a hot night (25c) when we were there. Guy on front desk was very helpful and let us put our cases in one of our rooms which was ready, two hours before check in as well...

I booked this hotel as a cheap break to Budapest and was generally very impressed with the hotel, facilities and restaurant. The staff spoke English and were very helpful. The one downside is that many of the rooms look out into a courtyard which makes the interior of the rooms very dim even in the middle of the day. Overall,...

I could not have been more pleased with the City Hotel. The location is perfect for getting around - tram just steps away as is the Danube, the Metro is a short i minute walk as well. The room was quite basic, nothing fancy, just everything you need, plus a good mattress on the bed. The breakfast buffet is extra...

The hotel is city centered and very near to Duna, in which I can walk to the river side to enjoy the night view. Price is cheap with a very large room and refrigerator is provided. The room is clean also. However, no kettles can be provided and the staff is not helpful. The hotel needed wifi password requested from...

Arrived in Budapest, having cycled the 420 miles from Passau. I was hoping for a nice hotel for a couple of nights to relax and enjoy the city. We were given room 260 (a smoking room, even though we're non-smokers). The journey from reception was real route march: 1 Out onto a entrance passage / stairs shared with apartments /...

This is a reasonable budget hotel in a decent location with an OK breakfast buffet. Don't expect anything special, if you are just in Budapest a couple of nights and don't intend on staying in the hotel long, this place ticks the boxes. Room was basic, with tv, shower and Wi-fi (although not the strongest)

I stay at this hotel whenever I'm in Budapest (about 4 times in the past two years) and only once have I been really disappointed. During this past visit, I had a non-AC room during what must have been some of the hottest days in BP (so ask for an AC room) and we also encountered a staff person (Anita?)...

Perfect location. Old but in keeping with the area. Lots of stairs if you don't want to use the tiny lift. It was clean and perfect for sleeping in which is all you should be doing with such a gorgeous city on your doorstep. Friendly staff who were really helpful.

We loved the location, right outside the Vaci Utca but serious problems with the beds, and worst no place to drop off your bags by car. Parking no where near and when found double the price quoted . Also no elevator so ask only for 1st floor.

Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
