Bosque del Cabo is a romantic getaway and a naturalist’s dream, come true. Crowning a point 500 feet above where the Golfo Dulce meets the Pacific Ocean, nestled in the unspoiled jungles of Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula is a paradise found. Located in a unique and fortunate position at the very tip of the Osa Peninsula in the southern Pacific region of Costa Rica, this 750+ acre forest reserve features private, spacious bungalows and gorgeous houses perched atop the cliffs of Cabo Matapalo, each with beautiful ocean views, tropical breezes and the rainforest at your doorstep; or choose beautiful and rustic garden view accommodations surrounded by thriving rainforests. Hiking trails lead you through the forest to deserted beaches on both the Golfo Dulce and Pacific Ocean. Bosque del Cabo, which opened its doors as a hotel in 1990, is owner operated and dedicated to forest preservation.

My husband and I went to Bosque Del Cabo in 2014 and had a very special trip. After being couped up in 2020 due to CovID, in early 2021 I knew I needed to get out of town and the 1st place that popped into my head was Bosque. I've called it "My Happy Place" since 2014. We booked a trip for last week in April 2021 and WOW it was just as amazing as last time! We honestly didn't think we would see even MORE animals than last time but we did. On the Tiki trail we saw all 4 monkeys found in Costa Rica on one hike! There were Coati all over the grounds eating the plentiful fruits. This time we even saw Peccary (wild pigs) that we did not see last time. The staff at this place are amazing and the food is also superb. Our car broke down when we went horseback riding and they were soooooo helpful. Love the owners Kim and Phil who were there on the property this time. The staff are friendly, helpful and can make a mean Mango Colada or our favorite, their signature Bosque Mojito (yum!). We stayed in the Casa Blanca. A lovely house with two bedrooms and a killer patio. On most days we could see monkeys swinging in the trees just by sitting on our patio. We took full advantage of the hammocks for afternoon naps. We had a truck so we drove down to the beach a few times and for the horseback riding, which I highly recommend too. Each day consisted of waking up, having breakfast, going on an adventure (hike, beach, horseback etc..), coming back for lunch, taking a nap in the hammock or reading a book, happy hour at the bar at 6pm, fabulous dinner and bed. A perfect, relaxing holiday filled with nature. This place truly grounds you to the earth and makes you want to do better. I can't wait to go back to Bosque Del Cabo.

We stayed with our two boys at BdCRL for 4 nights. We felt so priviliged for being guests of nature and the wonderful team! Every minute of the day was magical. The sound of the animals and the Pacific Ocean, the countless activities (saw a Puma, Whale Shark and...., did zipline, animal watching at night, surfing, etc.), the delicious food, the wonderful property, and the Robinson-Crusoe-like houses), and the people who are just outstanding. Thanks for the great time!

All the wonderful things people say about the beauty, accommodations, wildlife, *staff*, FOOD, comfort.... all are entirely true. And yes, you can have a very safe experience here, even during COVID. Is it hot? yes. Humid? yes. Bugs? yes (bring repellant & itch cream). Challenging trails? some yes, some no. If you do not want to engage with the rainforest & all the beauty of its animals, plants, climate - and some rain - then this may not be your place. If you want loud music by the pool, stay away. If you like the idea of waking up to howler monkeys, hearing toucans while you shower, seeing bizarre & beautiful creatures from your doorstep or private deck, exploring the jungle, having your sweat & exertion rewarded with indescribable vistas-beaches-wildlife, eating fabulous fresh food (even with some very good house wine & excellent cocktails - yay!), then going to bed with the sound of crashing waves & happy frogs, then THEN this is your place. We hiked over 10 miles one day, but that is probably rather extreme. You can meander around the grounds & enjoy amazing wildlife at leisure. Take a hike with resident biologist Phillip & you will learn amazing and important details about the miraculous forest which you have come to visit. We did Primary Forest & Sunset hikes and loved them both. You need decent hiking shoes but nothing super aggressive. Quick-dry clothing really helps. This is not really a fancy place, but it is luxurious in the way that a gorgeous sunrise is luxurious and seeing/hearing scarlet macaws is luxurious. Every single staff member is a true gem. There are many we did not personally meet, but Hylene, GianCarlos, Felipe, Roger (chef!) & Wilbur (driver!) became our friends & we miss them! Phil & Kim, the owners, are clearly still in love with this place and they are passionate about making their guests’ experience the best it can be. This was a splurge trip for us and we do not regret a single dollar. It’s great, by the way, you can pay in various forms, including a check drawn from a US bank (backed up with CC). Yes, traveling internationally during COVID can be challenging & even worrisome, but we always felt entirely safe at BDC. If you need to take a COVID test for return to USA, you can do it in Puerto Jimenez clinic or check out the test kits you can bring along & do online w/ a laptop from emed.com. Osa Peninsula has been able to preserve so much beauty in large part to support from tourism. COVID has hit this area hard, so please consider coming here NOW! If you are open to enjoying natural beauty and jungle adventure, this place is waiting for you!
