Location is very good, right in the center. We were a part of a wedding group .Adequate sized, OK clean rooms. Somewhat dated decor but very friendly staff and good breakfast. The hotel is family owned property so it has a certain charm of a small independent hotel. I recommend it for it's great location and friendly, no frills service.

For change we chose a private hotel instead of relying in big chains. From the moment we stepped in we knew that this was a good choice. Smiling lady behind the counter with an attitude telling you that she really cares making you really feel welcome. As we got our keys we asked about the sauna she told that it's normally in use on Tuesdays and Thursdays ( it was Friday) but as it had been in private use earlier she could quickly warm it up for us if we wish to use it. We did so half an hour later as we were ready to go I went down to buy for some refreshment she told me that she had left the conference room next to the sauna open where there was a fridge with different kind of drinks we can use and then pay after wards. Of course this was not standard practice but as it was midsummer festival and most of the people were in the countryside the hotel was not close to full she could and did provide us wit this possibility. I raise my hat!
The hotel itself is very neat and pleasant with small but nice and clean rooms. Located in the heart of the city makes it possible to cover the surroundings by foot with out having to use any transportation. The entry is right next to a pedestrian zone so basically you when you step out of the hotel you already have services in front of you.
Breakfast is included with the stay and which is nice and of course a basic treat in most of the hotels. The restaurant is very nice decorated in the 70's spirit but the breakfast it self was not all that good. Some products weren't fresh any more which is always a disappointment but in the other hand I can understand that it as it was midsummer festival and there were not that many quests in the hotel so it's a bit challenging to plan the food service.
Over all I recommend this hotel all kinds of travelers. The price is good, service excellent and the atmosphere servers as well families as couples or people travelling alone. Great hotel!

We booked this Hotel based on the Trip Advisor reviews and the good location. I booked us a Superior room by email and received a confirmation almost immediately. We arrived at the Hameenlinna train station quite late and learned that the Hotel was not close to the train station as mentioned in other reviews. It is instead quite a walk if you consider that you have to walk 20 minutes lugging your suitcases in a snowstorm! Anyway, we got to the Hotel which is located in a very central pedestrian street just off the main market square. We checked in and rode the elevator to the 5th floor and opened the door to our room. Although okay, this was by no means a superior room but a standard double room. Dissapointed with this, I dialled the reception to enquire if there had been some mistake. The receptionist said that this was indeed a superior room and then said "what do you need?". Now I have been in many 4 or 5 star hotels around the world, and work in one as well. The bathroom was tiny with a mini-shower, the bedroom was too small to be anything superior.. To be fair, the room was very clean, there were bathrobes and slippers, a fruit basket and the staff was friendly, all nice touches, and the Breakfast was fantastic! But to call that a superior room and charge extra money for it. If this had been a normal double room then I would have given a higher vote definetly.

I had booked a superior room thinking that it would be quiet as it was on the top floor. It turned out that all conversations could be heard from the opposite room through the ventilation duct. Respa said that if there was any noise at night (the suite in question was reportedly occupied by men who were going to hang out), then I could call Securitas myself - the staff at the hotel is reportedly not available at night after 10 p.m. The hotel was full, so I couldn't change rooms. I wanted to secure my night's sleep and even though I had already paid for the room in advance, I decided to transfer to the nearby Scandic for the night. I don't expect the hotel room to be completely silent, but I think the soundproofing in the hotel is far too poor, if even conversations can be heard. It also feels sad if customers have to call Securitas themselves in case of problems.

I've never stayed in a hotel with such a poor sound proofing. There is a night club downstairs and I could hear the music very clearly from outside or through the building. It was very disturbing and continued very late into the night. Also sounds from the other rooms were easily heard. This was on weekend, but I suppose weekdays are more peaceful. Therefore, if you want to have a good night sleep during weekend, choose something else.

The breakfast was served in the same space as the night club. Sticky floors and dimmed lights were not exactly the best breakfast setting. Breakfast buffet had all the basics you could expect in any hotel, nothing special. Food quality could be better though. I was disappointed by the not-so-fresh bread and mediocre coffee.

On the plus side, the room was recently renovated, clean and with lots of day light. Small and simple but it had everything I needed for my stay.

Hotel Emilia is nice private owned small hotel in the center of Hämeenlinna. Friendly personnel welcomes you as you are coming to their home.
This hotel is on the center of Hämeenlinna city. Market place, churches, museums, shopping mall and restaurants are all close. Walking distance to everywhere.

I would give this place 3.5 stars if possible in Tripadvisor. Excellent location and otherwise quite good hotel somewhat let down by a noise problem. Review based on a one-night stay in November (background of spending 80+ nights per year in different hotels around the globe).

Location:
Very well located in the immediate city center along the pedestrian street. Plenty of restaurants, bars, shops and things to do within the walking distance. 1.5km / 15min walk to the railway station.

Room:
Had a basic room at the 5th floor, which was not the biggest I’ve seen but certainly not the smallest either. The room had been renovated not too long ago, everything was very clean with no stains or signs of usage anywhere.

The biggest flaw in the room was the connecting door to the room next door. I’ve never seen this particular feature being implemented in a way that is really able to block the noise from the other room and unfortunately that problem was very clear here too. I can understand why it is convenient, but the flipside of the coin is that it’s not really great at all if you can hear absolutely everything that’s happening in the other room. It is more or less the same as hanging a curtain between the rooms: you cannot see but you can certainly hear…

Etc:
Check-in & out was very efficient.

Breakfast was not really a luxurious event as such but provided a rather good selection of different

Would I return there?
Yes I would, nothing really to complain about especially if you manage to get a room without the connecting door

Nice little hotel in the center of the city. The room was clean, up to date with the interior and quiet. Breakfast was plenty and good. Parking in the garage was a little tricky, but manageable. Very nice and professional service. Good value for the price.

As some of my readers may know, I take a music tour of about 30 people abroad every year. 2018, it's Sibelius, so Finland it is! I've already decided that we're staying in the Emilia: nice rooms, good showers, very friendly staff; just about all boxes ticked. Very close to everything you'd want to visit on a Sibelius trip. The only small quibble I have is the Breakfast room, which is in the basement, so no natural light. It,s the same in summer, but with the option of taking your food out onto the terrace.

Overall this is good hotel by Finnish/Nordic standards - rooms smaller, two single beds pushed together to create a double bed, etc. This is listed as a boutique hotel with rooms decorated with the local Finnish designer fabrics Marimekko which it does have but overall not to the level I was expecting for something different with local charm. The staff was excellent, friendly, and service prompt.
