Travelling from Canberra to Queensland we needed some where to stay Muswellbrook was as good a place as any. I hoped on the net looking for a deal and found the John Hunter. To be honest I was price motivated. I certainly didn't have much of an expectation. I figure you get what you pay for. We arrived after midnight...

We could barely open our sliding door to our room and the bathroom had a dead black spider on the basin. I pulled the coverlets off the beds as they looked like they had been on the bed unwashed since 1984. Place was a ghost town with an abandoned car at reception. Had my child and husband not been really...

Used to be a nice motel but its now a run down, worn mess. Everything is worn... its clean enough but since its catering for mostly mining customers its had NO maintenance at all. Cracked tiles, toilets need replacing, no amenities at all. Worst for me its very noisy (from guests but that's not really the motels fault.) As the...

AVOID, AVOID AVOID! FIRE HAZARD, Should be closed down to be repaired and made safe again, sliding doors don't slide, doors are worn out, jam shut, escape to safety in the time of a fire would make this place a death trap.

Check in was easy and the service was great. The room was what we paid for, not extravagant but not basic. All the basic requirements were there and worked well. Even though it is located on the highway there was no highway noise. We were in the second row of rooms. Parking was ample. Access to the second floor rooms...

On arrival manager very friendly and happy to have a chat. Happy to accommodate our need for ground floor room due to health concerns. Room itself was comfortable, clean, tidy and catered for our needs. Bit disappointed restuarant not opened and hasnt been for a while. Manager hopeful that this will change soon. Would give high rating if had this...

Hotel is basically in run off. Nobody at reception to greet. All facilities such as restaurant, bar, etc closed down. No other guests to be seen. Cockroaches. Musty. The absolute killer was when my daughter went to the toilet to find unflushed excrement floating in the bowl. The hygiene seal from who knows when was just thrown on the floor....

Sure this motel is from the old school, but with pleasant staff and management it is a an adequate place to stay. With the town seemingly full of workers after the Christmas, New Year break. My normal residence, when I visit Muswellbrook, had the No Vacancy sign out, as did 90% of the motels in town. So as The John...

We stayed here for 3 nights and yes the rooms are out dated but it was clean quiet and comfortable. Very pleasant staff who organised a ride for us to the train station very early in the morning to catch our flight free of charge. Thank you so much we appreciate you making a sad visit to Muswellbrook so much...
