Exquisite small hotel bordering National Park of Guadarrama, an hour from Madrid. Hike in the sierra, spend the day in Segovia... What bliss Sotosalbos is a tiny village: two restaurants, one bar, no shops, and a two-kilometre diret road that delivers you to heaven. Cristina & Alejandro spent four years building their dream place; now they live here with daughter Cristina, a couple of horses, a donkey and two happy dogs. The style is local (wood, stone, plaster, slate), the decoration is exquisite, and the grounds are gloriously wild. The house is built on two floors: bedrooms up, public spaces below, and an internal patio bursting with greenery. There are big open fires stacked with logs, fat sofas, bright kelims, friends' paintings, lovely lighting, a library lined with books, a drinks cupboard with free drinks. Beams from monasteries and old wood doors from Madrid houses give a wonderfully warm feel, and the wide terrace has glass panels to keep winter at bay. But you can still gaze out on the foothills of the sierra, and the walking is marvellous. Bedrooms are beautiful, two with terraces, and bathrooms are stunning (anti-misting mirrors, tiles from Morocco). Breakfast, brought to the long friendly table, is worth rising for.

Beautiful country house decorated with love and style in a tranquil environment. The owners (Cristina & Alejandro) always available and pleased to help at anytime, nothing was too much trouble for them. Bedrooms very cosy, inviting and spotless. No TV or A/C in the bedrooms, but nights are cool and who needs a TV when you are trying to relax? Breakfast is superb, assortments of pastries and cakes, eggs from their own chickens, breads and Iberico Ham. Keep in mind this is a proper Bed and Breakfast, so you have to go out for lunch and dinner, but the town is very close by with a few options to have a good meal. Definitely will come back soon. Near Madrid, perfect getaway.

Finca Fuente Techada is a wonderful place to stay. It's hard to do justice to it in words, but it is the perfect antidote to a busy week in Madrid. With its surrounding countryside and vista of the mountains you get a real sense of peace. The house is beautifully decorated throughout, elegant but comfortable, and it is pleasure to unwind in front of the open fires with a good book in the winter, or as on a previous visit, have a nap in one of the hammocks in the garden. Breakfast is unbeatable with home made cakes and fried eggs from the farm to complement the great selection of fresh fruit, cheeses, ham and bread. Cristina and Alejandro are delightful, interesting and welcoming, speaking perfect English as well as trying to help us to improve our far from perfect Spanish! They

This place was recommended as a great place to stay in the Segovia area. This hotel is a newly opened spot out in the country that combines old world charm with modern amenities. But what made it extra special was our hosts Alexandro and Christina who could not do enough to meet our every wish. The property Is beautifully decorated and has several spots for quiet contemplation. The fireplaces were lit just for us to take the chill off the evening air and Christina's cooking was wonderful. We both wish we could have stayed longer.

A one night stay en route from Marbella to Santander. This charming and beautiful Finca is located north of Madrid on the outskirts of an idyllic village. As previously described, faithfully restored, beautifully furnished, oh so comfortable beds and the most charming of hosts. We were warmly greeted by Alejandro with chilled wine, most welcome after a 6 hour drive from Southern Spain. A restaurant reservation was made for us nearby, although dinner was also offered at the Hotel. A tray of drinks was left for our return and a chilled bottle of water for overnight. We had a huge ground floor room and our hosts were kind enough to allow our dogs to stay with us on this occasion. We left after a fabulous breakfast, feeling recharged and a little bit in love with this idyllic
