After a romantic ferry crossing from Pahia - how could you expect the evening to get even better. It did!!! Now we like lamb - but try their slow cooked shoulder and you'll be spoilt for ever - words fail me. Preceded by the crunchiest peppered squid- and accompanied by the Australian Yalumba ( its OK the loveliest French waiter...

The Duke of Marlborough Hotel in the charming Russell is full of colourful history and charm. The 185+year old establishment is a must visit to the Bay of Islands. The staff very knowledgable and friendly. Very convenient to ferry and everything Russell has to offer. It is an inspiring, beautiful building. Our dinner was fabulous.

We spent a very pleasant morning browsing Russell and were looking forward to a good lunch at the Duke of Marlborough. The hotel benefits from an amazing location by the water. We were fortunate to get a table on the veranda overlooking the bay . Unfortunately the service was slow the staff forgetful and the meals when they eventually arrived were...

A wonderful hotel in a superb setting. Nothing was too much for the staff and we had a brilliant stay. The room was clean and tidy with a sea view. Food was excellent - the roast lamb was succullent. This is a must stay place!

Lovely food here and beautiful old building sitting inside feels like a blast from the past. Easy to get to on car ferry and lovely day browsing early history. May have been a sinful place century ago but if you partake of chocolates from the choc shop and lunch at the duke you will find it very sinful

We were given a weekend away to stay up at this hotel on the northern end of the North Island and I have mixed feelings. Honestly the mood gets set by the first person you meet. When we arrived at the hotel my wife and I were told is that we needed to make reservations for their in house restaurant...

Lovely historic hotel, great location, lovely atmosphere. Rooms were excellent, lovely restaurant, although we both had lamb but one of the meats was tough and stringy, but the hotel dealt with the problem to our satisfaction

Returning to the Duke once again brought the same feelings of contentment and excitement as had previous visits. Due to a booking error - Expedia didn't send through the request for boat parking to the hotel - seemed to present a problem. However the staff swung into action and I was able to park in the service bay at the...

Stayed here for 2 nights in February. Check-in was quick and the receptionist was extremely helpful. We had a really pleasant room which was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was a large buffet which was really enjoyable. We ate in the restaurant both nights, the food was amazing, our favourite was the Lamb to share and the liquorice parfait was...

Had heard so much about this place , took ferry from Paihia to visit. Very indifferent uninterested staff who really didn't seem to want to serve us. Maybe caught on a bad day nevertheless with so many harley people in the area and visiting they really could have done better
