We very much enjoyed our stay and would recommend to stay at least 2 nights to have more time to explore the dunes and get the full experience. Since many guests stay only 1 night the camp is empty between 10am and 3.30pm when the new guests arrive so we read / relaxed in the restaurant tent and went for... More

WE picked the right place to stay. It was rustic, raw, and right near a great big sand dune that you could walk up whenever you felt like it. Desert Retreat Camp was the way to go. We had so much fun. Camel riding, sharing tea, great dinner, lovely company from other guests, the owner was fascinating. This was a... More

We visited this place in October 2013 with friends (see my review dated November 2013) and we where very pleased. My only misgiving was that there could be some more Omani touch in the form of after dinner dates, coffee and halva. This had all been corrected, to the pleasure of our party. The camp standard remains basic, but that... More

We spent one night in the camp and loved every minute. Many of the similar camps offer rather fake "tents" but the Desert retreat Camp offers real goat-wool bedouin tents straight on the desert sands. The staff were great and the food provided - a buffet dinner and breakfast - very good. Desert is a bewitching place and this camp... More

Staff friendly (as is usual in Oman), but the experience is not that special. Yes, it is quiet and, yes, lots of stars to see. But we have seen more beautiful deserts, slept beneath the stars in a bedroll and all of this accompanied by fantastic food. Here the food was quite basic, although not bad. Nice if you haven't... We were a family with 2 kids and had 2 wonderful days in the desert. The camp is quite remote from the main road so you really feel in a special place, especially early morning and late at night. Silence was just magical, as long as looking at the stars with the kids next to the wooden fire. My husband... More

Desert Retreat Camp is just perfect for a desert overnight-stay. Truesome, no-frills, but comfortable and beautiful. Kind and polite staff. Lovely, genuine tents, great open-roof toilets, nice area for meals. Good taste throughout. An unforgattable experience.

No chance of the hair of the dog in this location, and why would you want to dull your senses. Literally in the middle of the desert, drive-able in your own 4X4 or with the owner Humaid; sleep in your own tent; electricity went off at 10:00pm. The shower and toilet are under the stars. Camel rides and dune bashing... More
