I have stayed in lots of hostels around the world, and I think all of them could learn something from the Albatross. It is perfect. The common room is beautiful, vibrant, and welcoming even before you make it through the front doors. I stayed their as a woofer for about three weeks in July, and then visited once more for...

Albatross is hands down my favorite hostel in New Zealand. I loved it so much I looped back around the South Island to return just to stay at the Albatross. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful (shoutout to Tim and the gang). It has a cozy and colorful vibe that will make your time in Kaikoura extra memorable. The...

This place is everything you're looking for in a hostel! Cheap, friendly, free (and fast) Internet, a nice kitchen, great community vibe and some lovely staff that are more than happy to answer any questions about the area. I've been traveling throughout NZ, and no hostel has impressed me more than the Albatross Backpacker Inn. You'd be crazy to stay...

This hostel ticked ALL the boxes! Fantastic atmosphere, our room was very cute and very clean, the showers were probably the best showers I've had at a hostel. Friendly staff and an easy check in. Would recommend to anyone looking for a proper kiwi hostel experience!

We had such a brilliant time at The Albatross. Our twin room and shared bathroom was super clean and the beds were very comfortable. Everybody was warm and friendly, particularly Tim who helped us choose the best activities to do in the area. The common areas were cleaned everyday and they had a spice box and baking box which anybody...

Stopped by this super cute hostel to have a shower - ended up staying for 2 weeks and working there. Never been made to feel so at home in a hostel. Amazing atmosphere and all round awesome people. Great social area, musical instruments, painting, free bikes, communal cooking and Sunday pancakes. Katie and Ben who run the hostel are sparkly...

Rainy, wind and cold weather in Kaikoura but we still enjoyed our trip mostly due to the staff at the Inn whom were all very welcoming and fun to hang out with. Played card games, had a little jam and hung around. Tim was awesome, Billy was fun, Kyle was cool, good people. It is among the more tidy places...

This is a cute and welcoming hostel with fun decor, easy access to the rest of the town, and a nice social environment. Will set up activities at the hostel and also help book things around town. Games, music, and areas to chill in the common room. Full kitchen. Shared bathrooms.

We stayed in one of the doubles and really enjoyed the whole experience. The hostel has no TV, which makes the place very social. Kitchen is well equipped and the bed was comfortable. The owners are very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. The vibe was very relaxed and suited two 50 something backpackers right down to the ground.

We had awful luck with our room location; it shared a very thin wall with the kitchen/common area so it was noisy until 2 am with people talking/laughing and banging things around in the kitchen. Then, at 6 am it was noisy again with people getting breakfast. We could even hear the tea kettle warming up! The toilets are tucked...
